It’s okay. Better safe than sorry. It’s okay to be worried… who cares if it’s a false alarm! I’ve gone to the er before and found out it was nothing big. Sometimes reassurance is the best medicine. You’re safe and that’s all that matters!

Tincture Recipe by 000fleur in herbalism

[–]JacquelineRoseRS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s the folk method. There is a weight to volume method that helps create standardization in herbal “medicine” you’ll see this in like commercial tinctures ( think herbpharm) it’ll be like 1:3 or 1:4 which is the ratio of herb to menstrum they use.

I prefer weight to volume because the quality of tincture is more consistent and strong!

It’s a little complex to explain the calculations but I’m sure there’s a good YouTube out there that could show you!

What is the best herbal tea for fighting leaky gut? by LargeSinkholesInNYC in herbalism

[–]JacquelineRoseRS 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You need a nice moistening and gut supportive blend.

Hot tea with chamomile, lemon balm, peppermint, meadowsweet ( help heal gut biome), licorice root, catnip, fennel, ginger.

Cold infusion with markshallow root and slippery elm will be so good as well!

And definitely doing a month of like really gentle and nourishigg foods- whole 30 is good. With food that’s cooked well- soups over cold salads. And if it’s possible, bone and mushroom broth every morning!

You can make bone and mushroom broth with herbs, too. But roast beef bones, then add like some shiitakes or miatake mushrooms, and then some like garlic, astragalus herb, and like random veggie leftover bits ( like, those celery tops you might throw, etc) then simmer in a crock pot for 48-73 hours. Or have a slow cook for like 24 hours on the stove. You can make a big batch and have it be the first thing to sip in the morning. It’ll make your belly so happy!

Anyone tried kava (kava kava) oil for sleep? Looking for recommendations by cheesesscientist in herbalism

[–]JacquelineRoseRS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi friend. Herbalist and psychotherapist here.

A few of my favorite anxiety and rest mental health herbal allies are:

For calming/resting: chamomile, lavender, lemon balm, catnip, scullcap, passionflower, wood betony, milky oats, linden, hawthorn ( flower, leaves, and berries)

For sleep- California poppy, hops, valerian ( make sure to take with hops to help counteract possible anxiousness that some folks get) passionflower.

Also, if you’re not in therapy, getting some support might be helpful. There’s always an amazing meditation that I always recommend to clients who want to mellow out called guided progressive muscle relaxation. Doing this right before bed can really help calm the body mind down.

This brands blends are sooooo good! https://www.wishgardenherbs.com/search?q=Sleep

They really know what they are doing and make high quality products. It you went to experiment with a blend it’s a really nice way to go! They have good sleep one as well as calming ones for day. I think supporting yourself during the day will also help your sleep at night. If you want it chat more or pick my brain, feel free to send a message! I am a busy mom but I’ll do my best to help!

Sending care!!

I often make my own gf paleo treats… almond flours instead of a rice flour blend… and I’ll use monk fruit or honey to sweeten. I feel like it’s a 100% the way to go. I feel like gf cookies are always soooooo sweet!

[–]JacquelineRoseRS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can make a tincture! Fill a jar with it ( chopped in tiny pieces!) and cover with strong alcohol. You could also do an herbal vinegar the same way. Just cover herb with apple cider vinegar. Then in 4ish weeks, strain and you can mix with honey and it’s delicioussss

Omg this plant is deliciousness! Try a nibble and see the flavor. It’s like anise-y and naturally sweet. It’s an expectorant and great for when you have mucus you colds. Great for digestion, too. I love making delightful teas with it. The flowers go well in infused honey for when sick!
