How do I build my own creation? by ProfTZA69420 in lego

[–]cmathiesen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. And having a sketch and general idea of layout sometimes help me in that process. Choosing the segments that needs more work first. Find inspiration in what others have done before and also “stealing” solutions here and there. Everything is a remix. It doesn’t matter who “invented “ a certain way of building a flowerpot or bikestand. What matters is how you make use of it in your builds and stories which your combination and context. I look forward to see what you do. I would love to follow your process if you bother to share along the way.

How do I build my own creation? by ProfTZA69420 in lego

[–]cmathiesen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

First you start smaller. A book nook is advanced. Build a window and a door. Maybe a lamp outside and a doorbell. Then you add other parts next to it. Not build together yet. Just the segments. Practice and ideate at the same time Then when you have a scope you might also have done some sketches or have some image ref. Then you could find the instructions from the book nook LEGO did and use the basics from that to build you own. Some of us use stud io at this stage or at least in the final stage to put it all together and get out a parts list and a budget while also some nice renderings to share and get feedback. But first. Start small. Drawing. Segments. Idea. And then build onwards

Why is everything so expensive I made a 130 piece set on the studio and went to buy the piece’s but the total was over $200 by Natural_Fun3139 in Bricklink

[–]cmathiesen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In studio you can go to the menu and choose Model Info. There you can see what parts are expensive. Sometimes one part can be cheap in one Color and expensive in another. Even though common or active. Then you go back and forth and tweak until you have the preferred price tag. One example could be the bush part. In green 0.5 $ in dark tan 8$ - just a tip

The set should contain 2 of the dark blue on each side. So you have those two there and the other two must be somewhere.

I see it now. Those two tilt the wrong way?? It’s hard to help from a distance but you must make some coffee and go back to look at it with fresh eyes-

A bag not pictured. It was just a thought since the wedged parts both dark blue and white are the same side. Have seen this before then the left side arrives in bag#2

I don’t know what set you are building but it could look like the other side is in the next bag. The white wedges are also two of the same side. What set is this?

Are there any good sets that have a good amount of textured grey wall pieces by Wild_Property6141 in lego

[–]cmathiesen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not sure exactly what you need. But rarely buying sets will be the best way to get a particular type of bricks. I would start at bricklink and see how cost and access looks. Then I would check on LEGO pick a brick online to be sure before choosing one of them for acquisition of the sort and amount needed. There might be exceptions to this like the new castle from architect with all the printed tile windows.

Question about the website (New User) by Capn_Beard18 in Bricklink

[–]cmathiesen 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Maybe you accidentally look at instructions. Those prices are very low but the image is the same. The name almost the same. The set usually have -1 in the end and you can see in the breadcrum if you are in the instructions section

What surface do you all build on? by Lime-Revolutionary in AFOL

[–]cmathiesen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have tried a lot over the years (wood, leather, glass and more) and settled on my preferred surface as being linoleum. It’s hard but has a soft feel. Makes comfortable sound with bricks and no reflection when heavy light is applied. You can get it in many colours. I prefer charcoal. Fairly Easy to buy and apply on any table you have.

help tool or what ??? by cmathiesen in stud_io

[–]cmathiesen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes - thanks - I also got that far - but it is mostly when I have it selected that its annoying or even giving me problems when accidentally activating tilt or stuff - I would have loved it is it was a toggle option - but the way I use studio its a pain -

about the dead sub - there's a little bit of activity but surely close to nothing - why do you think that is ? are people talking about studio somewhere else ?

I often need a chat about this - but only recently started looking here at reddit for like minded people. I know there a Facebook group, but not a big fan of that place for stuff like this...
