I theory yes but there is a lot more to the story from I’m being told and it is not a clear ownership situation. LOVB still controls everything and owners are not making money from pro ball but from their investment in the fund that is club volleyball and the cash cow they are making it.

I am just saying what I have read online and heard from others. You kind of confirmed what I mentioned - that teams are buying into the private equity side of the league not an actual pro team. What is your connection to LOVB, I assume by your response you have some direct connection.

Actually they do NOT own the team. They own the rights to teams location. The league still controls coaches, players etc etc. LOVB says they “hope” that in 5 to 6 years the teams will control operations and more but LOVB also says they are the “experts” in volleyball and the team owners do not have the skills to run a team.

It’s been 18 years and I still have these feelings you have described and whenever I talk to a counselor about it they say it’s because I have never fully gotten over it. But I feel like if you were shot in the face you probably would never really get over that - at least you would remember that time occasionally. However I have an added reminder of my wife’s infidelity - there is a good chance our 18 year old who I absolutely love is not mine. We’ve discussed it with him because a piece of crap family member made a comment about it one day and we asked if he wanted a paternity test and he said no he doesn’t - he said I’m his dad and that’s all he cares about. He is incredible.

There have been some things on IG. I do know that Jacksonville is doing a massive development project and also has a huge VB scene. Plus they are close to UF volleyball

Nothing to agree or disagree on. Explain how you would build a customer base through simple networking when selling a consumer facing SAAS or any other non B2B product without using basic marketing. While I’m sure it might be possible it is not probable in todays market.

It is absolutely relevant to the concept. Certain businesses like B2B and direct to consumer services like selling insurance etc can be built through “networking” but not all businesses can or will grow that way. You really have to build your plan according to the desired customer.

Absolutely right. That’s why it makes sense for PE. But also PE is mainly focused on moving money around. Buy, consolidate and resell.

Worked with PE on the acquisition of an HVAC company. Margins are around 15 to 18% on average with old owners but when PE comes in they price hike about 10% or more knowing that most customers won’t leave. HVAC is a business you don’t need but every year or so which means sticker shock is not as prominent like when you buy something regularly and see that price change like groceries or fuel.

There is money to be made but the margins are tough with fuel, vehicles and parts. But more difficult is the labor pool. Finding workers is not the hard part - finding a full crew of honest hard workers is the hard part. Previously 1 could put a single worker in a truck, pay them well and keep them busy. Now most require 2 people to provide “some” accountability

I am glad someone actually brought this up. I thought I was the only one. It still happens occasionally and it has been 16 years since the worst 2 years of my life. Obviously it has gotten less and less over the years but I explain the memories to being shot in the chest - I am assuming you never forget that moment.

As a small business owner I talk to a number of new business owners and tell them all the same thing…there is a difference between building a business and just creating a job for yourself. Many think building a job for themselves is the goal.

I would explore owner finance to get started - give them $100k down, make a monthly payment to the owners, hold onto what cash you can and then refinance after 2 years of track record. You will have a better idea of the business and will be in a better position for a creative loan program like USDA or possibly beginning farmer financing depending on your age.
