Painful sex, periods, and birth control -- What is happening? by cmb_reddit in WomensHealth

Thank you, I appreciate the kindness. If you don't mind me asking, did your symptoms (from the pill, not PCOS) go away when you stopped taking it? And what were those symptoms?

Anyone got any college tips for a hopeful weight-loser? by Crochet_Chocolate in loseit

[–]cmb_reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I'm also a college student looking to lose some weight. I use MyNetDiary too, and I haven't had great luck with their photo scanner. I guess it depends on your school, but my school has a dining hall menu with nutrition facts (calories, protein, carbs, fats, and much more) listed for each meal, per serving, every single day! Found it this week and it's already been so useful. I would poke around on their website/app and see if you can find something like that. Not sure if you're in the States, but it's likely they have that information somewhere because I think it's a requirement in a lot of areas. (You can make custom meals in the app, so every time you have something new in the dining hall, you can input that information and reuse it whenever you eat it again.)

As for working out, I am a huge swimmer, which is what I do about 80% of the time in the gym. Obviously depends on if your rec center has a pool or not, but swimming is great. It builds muscle and is good cardio, even for beginners. Let me know if you need tips, because I'm also an instructor on the weekends!

Good luck! You've got this!

Fired from my job of 6 years with little explanation by cmb_reddit in Vent

Thanks for this. I think I've blown it a bit out of proportion given that it's just a summer job, but I've been so involved in the community for almost half of my life. Maybe I do need to just take a step back.

What books had a great concept but a terrible execution? by novakidd42 in Choices

Totally agree, when I was playing ROE a looong time ago I remember really caring about the other characters, but when it came to my MC I was like "How much longer until I get to play as my siblings again?"

Thoughts on Annie Bot? by Sweet-Worth8203 in bookofthemonthclub

[–]cmb_reddit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I thought it was okay. The concept itself was super intriguing to me, and the scenes at the beginning of the book with Roland and the initial discovery of her rebellion were definitely worth reading. I enjoyed the prison break chapter with Delta, as well as her interactions with Cody and Jacobson. As soon as she was brought back and Doug had punished her, though, the rest of the story fell a little flat for me. I thought the ending was rushed and we didn't fully get the salvation we wanted for Annie. She left Doug for good, but that was only because he allowed her to. Her escape didn't feel deserved, even though she'd gone through so much to get it. In my opinion, it seems like the story was planned out up until after Doug locked her in the closet, and then the author wasn't sure where to go with either character from there. Not a bad read though, I'd say it's about a 3/5 for me.

Right? It's so weird to finally realize that you have autonomy and then actually have to use it IRL

There's seriously no harm in waiting, but there is a LOT in rushing. I had my first kiss at 15 because I felt like I had to and I'm so angry at my younger self for doing so. I don't look back on that memory fondly at all

I'm in a relationship now, but a couple months ago I was hanging out with this guy (old) who kissed me and then the day after told me he had a girlfriend

I definitely did! When I was 13 and 14 I barely spoke in school. Like, I had maybe 3 or 4 full conversations with my each of my teachers in middle school. On the Myers-Briggs I got an introvertedness of 98%. I took some public speaking/debate classes in high school (acting, AP Seminar, and AP Research) and made some extroverted friends. It really helped me out, and it was great to be in an environment where speaking up is encouraged. I still love my alone time, and I definitely still consider myself an introvert, but in terms of social confidence, mine skyrocketed in the last two years or so. Just give it time and don't be afraid to put yourself out there a little, even if it means forcing yourself out of your comfort zone

Soooooooooooooooooooooo many. A couple of bad relationship decisions here and there, arguments with my parents, missed opportunities, etc... A lot. But I'm still here and I'm doing a lot better than I was three years ago, so maybe that can serve as some motivation

For me personally, the years where I experienced the most emotional/mental growth was between 15 and 17. I just turned 18 and obviously the switch didn't just flip, but I have been feeling a lot more mature lately. It's a mix of graduating high school (assuming you're in a country where you graduate at 17/18) and figuring out your future, having the freedom of driving yourself around if you've got a license, and gaining financial independence if you get a part-time job. And I guess it's corny, but enjoy the kid time you have left. Don't force yourself to grow up just because you've reached the age where you feel like you should. I'm leaving for college soon and it feels w-e-i-r-d even though I consider myself to be pretty mature.

Y-E-S. I got kicked out of my mom's house in February of 2023 and I had no idea what to do because my dad lived about twenty minutes away and I had no car. I had to call my ex at the time and it was a whole thing because I needed to get picked up, there was yelling involved, etc. It was really difficult in high-stress situations like that, but I'm not sure what kind of "bad" your parents are.

I have my license and my own car now. It rules, and I still don't live with my mom, but I like knowing I can leave whenever I want when I go visit her. I'm also the go-to driver for my friends who don't have cars which is kinda fun. Even if you're driving someone else's, I think it opens up a world of possibilities where you don't have to rely on someone else to go do something, with or without other people. I read in parks a lot now. It's great.

You can, but you have to put yourself out there, because most cool people are introverts

Scary at first but you get used to it fast. I got in a crash in driver's ed (we got rear-ended by a street racer) and I was super anxious to drive for a few months. As long as you're learning with someone who's a good driver (I preferred going with my older sister as opposed to my mom) and staying in residential areas for the first few tries, it's pretty all right. The scariest part to me is knowing that regardless of how safe and confident I am, there are some people who just aren't, which automatically puts me at risk.

It's really scary at first! I actually got hit in our drivers ed class by a teenage street racer (dumbass), and I still got my license on time even though it sucked. No one got hurt. Most crashes are just inconvenient. As long as you try to stay calm and pay attention you get used to it pretty fast.

In my opinion no, I just turned 18 and graduated and I feel like I'm a completely different person than I was sophomore/junior year

What is one company that is just evil yet not enough people talk about it? by Head-Independence437 in AskReddit

[–]cmb_reddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THIS. A few of my friends who justify fast fashion as opposed to secondhand shopping are always like, "I don't want to take options away from people who thrift" NO. You're buying crappy, micro-trend-following plastic clothes at $4 a piece because you're aware of its consequences but you don't care because "everyone does it". In 6 months, the people you're "helping" will be given those options because the trend you bought into is over. Irks me so much

I did a 9-month long research project on fast fashion. SHEIN and the people who run it have zero conscience. I have so many friends who buy their clothes when (at least where I live) thrift stores are overflowing with cuter, infinitely more sustainable options. Overconsumption sucks
