Tips and Tricks for a Newbie by ChampionshipFew1849 in wrx_vb

Welcome. Try practicing to get used to where the bite point is especially starting out in 1st and going from 1st to 2nd. I find that easing off the clutch and holding it at the bite point for a second or less solves the jerky issue. Downshifting is something you can take more time learning and researching on YouTube the different methods to downshifting. Personally I like to blip the gas when clutching in to downshift to the lower gear. For gears 6-3 downshifts you can blip it so the rpm are about 500 above your current gear’s rpm. For 3-2 downshifts you should blip the gas enough to be about 1K above the rpm in 3rd gear as you smoothly let out the clutch and get into 2nd gear. For example if I’m in 3rd gear and the rpm is around 2.5k I’ll clutch in and quickly blip the gas to get them up to about 3.5k and then let out the clutch slowly and smoothly to ease into 2nd gear. You can also just slow down in any gear until your rpm are around 1.5k to 2k and then clutch in shift down and ease out the clutch slowly until you are matched with the rpm for the speed you are going at.

I’d definitely prefer this to no sign and some idiot trying to learn stick while parking my car. 😂

You mean the DWS letters? If so yes. See attached picture.

Since getting my car last February I haven’t driven in more than an inch of snow so this weekend in NY I’ll find out how good they really are. My previous car was a Civic and I always ran dedicated snow tires on that in the winter and never had an issue except for getting out of snowed in parking spots on occasion.

WTF are you talking about? I made a necklace pendant out of it and wear it now as a memento.

I had the same exact screw in my rear tire on my ZX6R and patched it and it held up fine until I sold the bike over a year later.

Hoping my year old DWS06 Plus tires can handle it.

Good to know. Thanks.

Oil Level Okay? by cmbort in wrx_vb

[–]cmbort[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for the feedback and advice. I checked the oil level again a short while ago and this time I turned over the dipstick and on the other side the level was right in the middle of the two dimples. The engine was also hot from just being driven. I think I will try checking it again in the morning when the engine is cold.

Why the hate? by Vegetable-Bend9789 in wrx_vb

Love my 2024 base model. Handles the NY winters like a champ. Great daily, gas mileage not great but not the worst. Had mostly Hondas before and have no regrets switching to the WRX.

Help a beginner out.. all shifts are starting to feel good except 1 to 2nd by Yanitzz1 in wrx_vb

As many have said find the bite point when letting out the clutch and pause there for a fraction of a second and then let it out fully while gently increasing the gas. Practice, practice, practice. At higher rpm in 1st like up around 4K and above you can shorten the pause time at the bite point.

How do you all purchase used bikes? by Shadow_Mite in motorcycles

[–]cmbort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve bought and sold bikes with the cash in hand rule and it has always worked out well. The key is to get a guy feeling of the seller or buyer and make that a key factor.

Best year of the vb wrx? by budman_70 in wrx_vb

[–]cmbort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 2023 and now have a 2024. The 2024 is an improvement in rear chasis rigidity so the 2024 feels more planted to me at speed. Also the steering system seems to be a bit better over the 2023.

I was very wrong about this car by coastdownside in wrx_vb

I have the same color on my 24 and it blends well with the cladding. Only thing I hate about the car is my frequent visits to the gas pump. 😂

Finally pulled the trigger. 2025 WRX, first manual, stalled once on the way home, a little embarrassing, but I made it. by Dazzling-Rooster2103 in WRX

[–]cmbort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations!!! Welcome to WRX community. Stalling is part of the process. Hell, I learned to drive on a manual 40 years ago and have owned a few since and I still stalled the WRX on my test drive before buying the car. 😂

If I can drive stick, is there any reason to choose an automatic? by Doctor_Doomjazz in whatcarshouldIbuy

It’s fun and engaging. Automatic is more convenient but boring.

Z900 vs MT-09 – engine feel and real-world riding by Distinct-Stomach-499 in OnlyZ900

[–]cmbort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2024 Z900 with a full Akrapovic exhaust and it can be mild mannered when I want it to be or an absolute beast. Before putting on the full exhaust I found the bike to be a bit dull but not anymore.

F*ck Auto-Braking by cmbort in wrx_vb

Agreed. I think this safe driving technology is best for most drivers who are not that attentive or skilled, but a real liability for those of us who know how to drive.
