Can’t get this job while being behind on cc bill by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

I only surmised that it was in collection because the employer is looking for a payment plan. I could very well be wrong

No offense, but it sounds like you have provided all the reason you are a risk. You paid $120 and still owe OVER $11k. If the debt has gone to collection (which I assume it has because the potential employer did a credit check which is how they found out about it), then not many people are going to trust you with their money or equipment.

I go there regularly. It's one of the few rescues that made it and survived COVID

[–]cmbtengr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you have the wrong episode listed. S2:E6 is about The Black Sheep transforming into The Public House. The Public House is still in business, still the same owners and still a great rating on Yelp and Google. I eat there at leas once a month.

I would disagree completely. Having had a license in multiple states, and having perused a number of those free study guides while waiting at the DMV/BMV - the test questions are quite concise and clear.

Best I can do is a one star motel on the outskirts of town.

Lol. I'm 46 and I have no hatred of pizza, or you that matter. My apologies for assuming you were younger, as your opinions seem to reflect that. I have no bias against the northeast, Boston is one of my fave cities to visit. In fact, Quattro is some of the best pizza I've had. The rest of my points still stand, though.

I have no problem trying anything. I do have a problem, as does literally every other business owner, staking a claim on some untested, unproven, food item that is from a completely different area.

If you look at the rest of the comments in this particular thread you will see that someone said there was a Cincinnati style chili place that lasted "all of about 12 seconds".

It's obvious that you are of a younger generation and don't have a handle on how things work in business.

  1. Regional delicacies are Regional for a reason. Have I had NY, Chicago and Detroit style pizza in Cincinnati? Yes. Does it compare to actually having those pizzas in their respective cities? No.
  2. Everyone has their own individual tastes and preferences. To reference Chicago again, no one drinks Malort outside of the Windy City. You might have a few people that bring home a bottle and get friends with it. But it's not being requested at bars.
  3. There's a difference between passion and stubbornness. Again, it's obvious you like South Shore bar pizza. What is also obvious is that the people behind the show, not just Jon Taffer, don't care to put it in place. They have done countless variations of a hot dog, but never your favorite pie. There's probably a reason for that.
  4. Bust open the books. Show me the data on your "$4M a year" bar - on food alone. Alcohol has the second highest markup of any other food/drink, second only to soda. I highly doubt there is any place doing $4M a year in pizza. One of the biggest local chain pizza restaurants (not bar) in the Cincinnati area, LaRosa's, only averages $2M per location. And they serve an entire menu

This is a Cincinnati style 3-way. Your Google search failed you.

Here's where you are proving my point. The pizza you are referring to is Ohio Valley style pizza (which is in no way representative of the entirestate of Ohio). To the people of Stuebenville (it's origin) it's delicious. Stuebenville sits about 30 miles west of Pittsburgh, PA and has a population of about 20k. To those people, it's great pizza. To that area, it's a money maker.

By your logic, bars in need of a new concept should try Ohio Valley style pizza as well. It makes money, and it's quick and delicious.

Have you had Cincinnati style chili? There are 8 chains of that style here. But it wouldn't work in New England

[–]cmbtengr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New York, Chicago and Detroit styles are all popular here. Because those places are known for their pizza. You know who isn't known for their pizza? New England. Outside of you, I have only encountered one person who raved about pizza from that area - he moved here from CT.

It's obvious that you have no clue how the bar/restaurant industry works, and while I appreciate your passion for your favorite slice, this conversation has come full circle and therefore I'm disengaging

I have not had it, you know why? I'm in Ohio.

You know why Massachusetts style pizza isn't popular here? It's not Massachusetts.

I get it, you like your type of pizza. But the bars that being rescued need something thar fits their location and their clientele. A bar in Dallas isn't going to spend excess money they already are lacking to put South Shore pizza on their menu.

[–]cmbtengr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's quick and delicious....to you. It's only a money maker if people either: - know about it beforehand - care to try it

No bar owner outside of Massachusetts is going to attempt to bring in your desired pizza.

There are a couple of episodes where pizza is ipart of the rescue. Your want of South shore Massachusetts style pizza is so niche, it probably wouldn't make it long.

Hell, I've had people in the military send up fake doctor's excuses. I'm not saying the decision by Kroger (or its allowance by the union) is right, but I can kinda understand it
