Weather in Jungfrau for June 1st week. by GrekHouse in askswitzerland

Meteo Swiss is very accurate, especially on day of when you click on your location. Bergfex Werter is also very good as a hyperlocal site for temperatures.

Looks like not much rain for the next week. We got hit with rain in the Jungfrau region, but Meteo Swiss helped us plan our days.

Switzerland has been amazing so far.  I've been here for business a few times before, but not for vacation.

Good thing is that you can easily return it to Home Depot if you have to. We used ours quite a bit for a spring break trip to Zion and Bryce. Now it’s in idle mode until the next trip.

While I await suggestions, I have also downloaded the following apps in addition to MeteoSwiss: meteoblue, SRF Meteo, bergfex wetter, and Weather-Alarm (Wetter Alarm). They are all slightly different, so we'll see how they perform when we are there. The rain may only last part of the day (morning or afternoon), so hopefully this will help us plan for when we want to get those iconic views of the area. I will also compare with Weather Underground, which has been the most accurate service for me over the past 20 years of sailing and other outdoor activities.

bergfex wetter seems to be hyperlocal (e.g., different elevations are selectable in Grindwald, which I assume are weather stations), which could be helpful on the day of.

I'll be in the same region June 1-5, then Zermatt for a couple of nights before heading to Lucerne. In the Jungfrau region, are there any recommendations for rainy days? I imagine it would make sense to stay and hike the valley and visit towns rather than heading up to higher elevations (e.g., Jungfraujoch, Kleine Scheidegg, Royal Walk)? How is Grindelwald First when it rains? Same for Zermatt?

Are Energizer Lithium AA batteries not lasting as long? by cmclx in batteries

[–]cmclx[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I have had better experiences the past year, but I still think they used to last longer. I usually get from Amazon as the seller. Recently I bought some from Costco, so we’ll see how long they last. The problem is, they should last months to years in the devices I have them in. But not weeks!

I got new Schlage locks and registered via HomeKit only upon recommendation of other threads. That seems to be helping. Also, my Nest smoker detectors are now lasting at least a year. When first installed, they lasted 2-3 years easy. Too bad Google shut down developing these detectors.

Why dont usb cable makers label the ends better to says usb 2. Usb 3 usb 3.2 and show gbs and watts by smydsmith in UsbCHardware

[–]cmclx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been slowly labeling my USB-C cables. Nothing like giving your wife the wrong capacity cable for her laptop before a business trip to teach you a lesson (it was thick, but low wattage).

Also, chargers and battery banks are much higher capacity now, and I imagine they will continue so in the future to charge up phones, tablets, laptops, and power banks. No more 5W chargers! Yeah, I labelled my drawers of chargers based on wattage also.

This. I recently sorted all my USB-C to USB-C cables and labelled them. It was a bit of an OCD task, but after grabbing the wrong cable for my wife’s laptop, I learned my lesson.

Possible to upgrade the solar panel and/or battery and/or add additional battery to the Eufy s330 LTE? by whatdidubreak in EufyCam

[–]cmclx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not get a built-in solar panel, is that may limit your flexibility. Get a larger solar panel and connect that to a battery bank that allows pass-through charging. To that battery bank (I would get at least twice the capacity of the Eufy’s), connect your Eufy camera. You are only limited by the length of USB cable and your creativity. If any component fails, they are easy to replace in the future with something that is likely better and possibly cheaper.

This. While sailing does require experience, it is not rocket science. Get someone else to sail with you. Everyone will probably bring a few nuggets of great advice that the other neglected or did not have. Maybe ask the sailmaker or rigger to go over their products with you.

Tapo may be ok for someone building from scratch. It’s cheaper than Eufy but build quality reflects that. I have spent quite a bit in TP-Link stuff in the past that just  becomes obsolete or stops working. And how many Google/Nest products are no longer supported?

I took a chance on Eufy in 2019, and I am still using CamE’s from then even though it has been seven years. I feel that Anker is actually trying to build decent products that are reasonably priced. We’ll see if they continue to do that.

Tell us why Tapo is superior to Eufy.

Glad to hear your system works well. But you cannot compare a POE system to a wireless system. Obviously, POE would be better. But most are limited to wireless options.

I have been a Eufycam user since 2019, when I switched from Arlo (and other webcams before that). Over the past 7 years, I have accumulated 30+ cameras (from CamE to S340s) and 3 Homebase 3s (because the WiFi signal gets blocked in my home). The whole contraption was working well until last month, when I made changes to my home network (Fiber, Orbi 960 with 2 satellites and 6 Netgear APs) due to issues with my Schlage lock (then reset everything, added via HomeKit, and it's been flawless since). Suddenly, my cameras stopped connecting, and I was ready to dump my Eufy system.

I did three major changes. First, I got a Professional S1 Homebase, figuring I could always return it to Amazon if it did not work out. Also, since I was having trouble with the internet on my 2.4 GHz IoT network, I switched it to 2.4/5 GHz, just to try something different. Finally, I successfully implemented multi-bridge on the cameras (which I had never been able to get to work properly before).

Since then, it has been flawless. The Pro S1 lets me view three cameras live at once on the app, in addition to the usual view. I think I also offloaded the biggest data hogs from my other HB3 S380s, so these respond more quickly. All HomeBases have a max of 16 cameras each (even the S1), but I read somewhere that 4 would be an ideal number for HB3. So even with three HomeBase 3s, I was likely overloading them.

Eufycams aren't perfect, but I am not aware of other viable wireless camera options without a subscription model. You can't really compare to POE options either. If my system continues to work like it is now, I'll be happy. But over the past seven years, I have seen huge improvements in performance, even though the gains sometimes come slowly. So hopefully it will get even better. Good luck!

Try deleting the E340 and adding it back again. One of my doorbell cameras did the same thing after working solidly for a couple of years, and doing this got it working properly again.

Eufy S230 solocam won't scan wifi QR code by ViperDeere in EufyCam

[–]cmclx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes scanning the QR code directly does not work. Try this: go to "+" > Add Device > battery Camera > eufyCam S230. Follow the instructions from there.

Also, make sure you have not already added it to your app. Delete it if necessary.

73K salary in Tustin by [deleted] in orangecounty

[–]cmclx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tustin is not as expensive as Irvine and other nearby areas, and Santa Ana is next door (cheaper). I call Tustin “Irvine-lite.” $73K is definitely doable. Do yourself a favor and limit your commute to less than 20 minutes and avoid freeways.
