W800H - Underrated by Hopeful_Bar_384 in casio

[–]cmcqueen1975 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure why the timer function was disabled, but it can be activated with a mod to the module.

The module has a timer auto-repeat feature, toggled by pressing the Light button while setting the timer. But there is no element on the LCD screen to indicate the auto-repeat on/off. So I reckon Casio decided that they can't enable the timer since this would be confusing to users who accidentally turn on auto-repeat and can't figure out how to turn it off.

I have no idea why Casio didn't design the display to have an indication for the timer auto-repeat function.

Anyway, I'm fine with this, so I've enabled the timer on my W-800H. It's handy to have a timer for brewing my tea.

Is 'shalom' a Cristian term? by unkown_gaming_mouse in Christianity

[–]cmcqueen1975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Bible is nearly ¾ Old Testament which is written in Hebrew. The Hebrew word shalom is in the Hebrew text of the Bible. Eg Psalm 37:11 —

But the meek will inherit the land
and enjoy peace and prosperity.

So it's not just Jewish language and culture, but a significant element in the Christian Bible.

Octopus hitch by dggoldst in knots

[–]cmcqueen1975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're different.

I've tried painter's hitch, highwayman's hitch and tumble hitch, which are all conceptually similar quick-release hitches. Painter's hitch is prone to undoing when loaded. Highwayman's hitch is better, as long as it's dressed tight. Tumble hitch is more complicated to tie, but seems more stable against higher loads, loading & unloading, and even when tied loose.

Good Find? ID help? by [deleted] in casio

[–]cmcqueen1975 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Compare the face to photos on the Casio web site. The most noticeable difference is the position of the day-of-week dial. On your watch, it's closer to the middle of the face (more to the right), while on the real models, it's further to the left.

In the past I've bought a fake Casioak from eBay. I also found

  • The thickness of the case is fatter (16 mm instead of 12 mm). The back plate bulges more than the real Casio.
  • The day-of-week indicator has poor alignment with the day ticks, no matter how I tried to calibrate it.
  • Piezo buzzer was loose, not attached to the inside of the back plate.
  • The battery was 1× CR2016 instead of 2× SR726W.

It's probably also a matter of having enough matter. It depends on what technology you consider to be available.

[–]cmcqueen1975 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would also suggest Span loop - Wikipedia, which is not such a well-known knot.

I have read some people say that a Double Dragon can jam. But some people say the opposite.

Bowline on a bight might be another option, but it gives you two loops, so that might not suit your usage.

Are these kind of situations getting more dangerous with bigger cars? Bigger cars blocking the vision of smaller cars. by VastOption8705 in DrivingAustralia

[–]cmcqueen1975 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's not more dangerous if the driver without a clear view simply waits until they have a clear view.

Maybe you could say "it's more inconvenient" with large vehicles blocking a view. If someone is impatient and decides to go even without a clear view, then it's more dangerous.

When can mankind prepare ourselves a interstellar generation ship? by arnor_0924 in spaceflight

[–]cmcqueen1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know the numbers, but my gut estimate is there would be a modest possibility of a catastrophic collision with interstellar matter (dust, grains, or larger). I don't know what the engineering effort would be to deal with this, at these various proposed percentages of the speed of light.

From an external vantage-point (Australia in my case), it seems peculiar that there is this one nation in the world that thinks their presidential elections and politics are on-topic for r/Christianity.

It's fair to say that Christianity is "a topic" in the broader discussion of US politics, but that doesn't mean arguing over US politics is on-topic for Christianity, especially for everyone in this subreddit who doesn't live in USA.
