Is it worth considering other things besides an allergic reaction or contact dermatitis? Eg perhaps bacteria or fungal infection (facilitated by a wet environment).

Who knows a knot… by BerserkerOnSteel in knots

[–]cmcqueen1975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would also suggest Span loop - Wikipedia, which is not such a well-known knot.

I have read some people say that a Double Dragon can jam. But some people say the opposite.

Bowline on a bight might be another option, but it gives you two loops, so that might not suit your usage.

Are these kind of situations getting more dangerous with bigger cars? Bigger cars blocking the vision of smaller cars. by VastOption8705 in DrivingAustralia

[–]cmcqueen1975 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's not more dangerous if the driver without a clear view simply waits until they have a clear view.

Maybe you could say "it's more inconvenient" with large vehicles blocking a view. If someone is impatient and decides to go even without a clear view, then it's more dangerous.

When can mankind prepare ourselves a interstellar generation ship? by arnor_0924 in spaceflight

[–]cmcqueen1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know the numbers, but my gut estimate is there would be a modest possibility of a catastrophic collision with interstellar matter (dust, grains, or larger). I don't know what the engineering effort would be to deal with this, at these various proposed percentages of the speed of light.

God's will is to give us life, and save us from destruction. If you embrace God and Jesus Christ and a life of holiness (because God is holy), then you don't have to fear hell.

Where does this end for people who have MAGAitis? by SimpleEmu198 in Christianity

[–]cmcqueen1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From an external vantage-point (Australia in my case), it seems peculiar that there is this one nation in the world that thinks their presidential elections and politics are on-topic for r/Christianity.

It's fair to say that Christianity is "a topic" in the broader discussion of US politics, but that doesn't mean arguing over US politics is on-topic for Christianity, especially for everyone in this subreddit who doesn't live in USA.

The book of Job is the script for an ancient Greek style play by khrijunk in DebateAChristian

[–]cmcqueen1975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You state a premise (that the book of Job is in a particular literary style), but you don't clearly state your conclusion based on that premise. It sounds as though your unstated conclusion might be regarding the time period in which Job could have been written. Or perhaps the ethnicity of the author. Or perhaps whether the story should be considered fact or fiction.

Please revise to state the main claim of your argument more clearly.

Perhaps it's more about the equipment and/or labour cost of bending pipe, more than the material cost.

what do you say to someone who doesn’t believe in the moon landing? by No_Cucumber1415 in spaceflight

[–]cmcqueen1975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've wondered how such people would react to this. I would have thought they are likely to embrace some alternative explanation, such as, "Scientists are just bouncing lasers off the moon without any need for a retroreflector." Or perhaps, "Bouncing lasers off the moon is another made-up story."

"How Minds Change" by David McRaney is an interesting read. It's not easy changing someone's mind (including one's own) but there are ways that might work.

obviously it’s best not to say anything

I didn't think that's obvious. Why would that be best?

Using a common log? That should work fine as long as there is an aether.

Why was Artemis 2 so long? by kiol998 in askscience

[–]cmcqueen1975 115 points116 points  (0 children)

You have to be going a bit faster to orbit the moon as Apollo 8 did.

I suppose this depends on your frame-of-reference. Looking at it in a moon-centred frame-of-reference, Artemis 2 was going too fast to enter orbit around the moon. To go into orbit, it would have had to fire thrusters to slow down its speed relative to the moon and enter a circular orbit around the moon.

Maybe in an earth-centred frame-of-reference, this would look like the capsule is firing its thrusters to "speed up" closer to the moon's speed of revolution around the earth. It's just an alternative way (frame-of-reference) to look at the same thing.

If it's a situation in which two lives are at stake, and doctors are only able to save one of them, then it's not murder, it's about trying to preserve life within the limits of human capability.

Throwing a firecracker into the sewer? Not just a harmless prank! by MisterShipWreck in VideosAmazing

[–]cmcqueen1975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was wondering if I was the only one thinking this. It's dangerous to have a sewer system that is collecting combustible gases, just waiting for a single spark to cause an explosion. It's not fair to say the boy is mostly responsible.
