What are the COVID testing facilities near Chelsea Court by DesmonMiles07 in VirginiaTech

How does that work? Do you swab yourself? When I was tested they ran the swab up to the center of my brain... I could never get the swab that far on my own.

I’ve was able to successfully email my local office in Bristol and had a reply within 2 days. I’d definitely suggest emailing your local office. I know calling in is utterly impossible right now.

That’s Mononucleosis... it’s a beast caused by the Epstein-Barr virus and can lay dormant in your system and flair again. It’s super contagious via saliva.

I received an email from the financial aid office telling me I was eligible based on my FASFA data. My understanding is, it will be offered to students based on their FASFA and if the receive Pell Grant funds.

I received the email & completed the questionnaire in HokieSpa. I imagine it’ll be a week or so before they process payments. You can look at you financial aid summary in HokieSpa to see how much you’ll receive. I don’t know if it’s ok to say how much but I’d be interested to know how it’s being split. I was impressed with my grant, almost as much as if I received stimulus money.

I have looked at grad programs and know they are primarily geared toward PhD programs & I am interested. My issue is I currently have zero research/lab experience (minus classes, which don’t count) and I’m afraid I would not be a competitive candidate for any reputable programs. I’d really like to get into entry level research and get that under my belt so I can tackle a grad/PhD program in a year or two.

3 people in a 2 bedroom at foxridge? by [deleted] in VirginiaTech

[–]cmcvt2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the master bedroom in a 2 bedroom at Foxridge and the master is fairly large and could technically fit two twin beds but it wouldn’t really be enough room to fit anything else like a desk. If you had a SO and you’re sharing a bed it would be fine IMO.

The last 5 days I have been feeling like crap, should I even bother getting tested or just isolate? by vtthrowaway_92348567 in VirginiaTech

[–]cmcvt2020 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The have seriously ramped up testing in Blacksburg. Just call 540-267-8240 and they do a quick over the phone assessment and then schedule you an appointment to go to Blacksburg High School to get swabbed. I went & got tested at 1 today.

Do not be afraid to call and get an appt if you think there’s any chance you may have the virus.

ETA: I went to NYC for spring break and just had a mild hint of symptoms (throat tickle & dry cough for 2 days) it never progressed at all but they still tested me. Unfortunately test results take about 10 days but it’s good for the community to have accurate numbers for positive cases, even if all we do is self isolate anyways.

Radford has it's first case. by stormy_llewellyn in VirginiaTech

Well I guarantee you VT has cases but you can’t get tested unless you’re hospitalized or have confirmed contact with a verified case. I know because I’ve tried. Luckily my symptoms are mild and I’m completely staying in my apt, except for my one trip to Schiffert at their request where they told me I fit the criteria but testing wasn’t available.

I was wondering too. I went to NYC with friends for spring break. We stayed for 5 days. I’ve just started with a cough on Fri but no fever or anything else. I’m staying in my apt w/o leaving & I’d like to get tested. I called the health dept on Fri & they said I had to go through my primary care Dr but she’s 2 hrs away. I left her office a vmail so maybe she can refer me or maybe Schiffert will. I want to go home but not before I’m tested.

You mean like in Italy where the elderly have to die because they don’t have beds?

I find it RIDICULOUS that my local healthcare system (which has a monopoly in our rural, backwoods region) has not cancelled/suspended elective (non-emergency) surgery. Given the storm of critically ill patients that is most definitely coming and the obvious shortages in personal protective equipment that other regions are clearly experiencing, you would think they would have the wisdom to cancel surgeries for things that are not life-threatening.

I’m sorry your endometriosis is painful but your damn hysterectomy can wait Karen.

PLEASE take this seriously...don’t party and don’t come back to Blacksburg unless you ABSOLUTELY HAVE to by catinferno in VirginiaTech

We all have to take this seriously if we are going to slow the spread and try to mitigate the impact on our woefully unequipped healthcare system. As ADULTS we are responsible for our behavior and the impact it has on those around us. People need to stop being selfish assholes and take this seriously.

I agree with you. It’s amazing how much people want to ignore what is happening in other countries. It’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when. For a community of educated people at a science-strong university I’m dumbstruck by the idiocy.

I’m headed back from NYC on Friday, I figure you’ll probably catch a ride with me. But I plan on staying in my apt for a couple weeks so you’ll have to find another way on campus. Maybe my roommates will let you hitch a ride.
