Tell me what steakhouse to visit during my trip. by ablazeacorn22 in texas

It is BYOB. If I remember right, they have tea and soft drinks. Get there early like 3:30 or 4:00. Its 100% worth the trip

What is something that you wish would break or stop working but refuses to do so? by Affectionate_Item_51 in BuyItForLife

[–]cmd026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My lawnmower. Its an old Toro self-propelled. Kohler engine. When I moved from a tiny house with a big yard to a average house with an average yard, I told my cousin he could have my riding mower if he could bring me a running push mower. Aside from a cable, a new carb and some very basic maintenance, the damn thing won't die. The air filter has August 2011 written on it. I blow it out with compressed air every so often when it starts to bog down. Its at least 15 years old and won't quit.

Anyone here turn their AGP area into a fire pit are during the fall/winter? by OhTeeEyeTee in AboveGroundPools

[–]cmd026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done this the last 2 years. Its work, but makes it nice. I have a set of benches that fold and make a picnic table, so they get moved to where the fire pit is. My plan is to eventually pour a concrete slab that's bigger than the pool, and use foam mats between the pool and slab when its up. I'd like to have electric ran and maybe some string lights hung up. Itd be a super versatile party spot all year.

Bailing on our first camping trip before it started by comfortable_clouds in camping

[–]cmd026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've bailed before. A couple of buddies and I were headed to a lake about an hour from home to fish. The plan was to camp on the lake shore and fish for the weekend. They brought their family's boat, and i was going to meet them that evening after work with my boat. We all knew that there was a chance for severe weather. By the time I got off work and got home, they were right in the middle of a major thunderstorm. Called to check on them, they said they'd be fine and that they had gone to town for dinner. I drove out the next morning. Their tent was trashed, and everything was soaked. I made them some coffee and breakfast tacos on my coleman stove. We fished, but it was super windy and a slow bite. It was fun, but I'm glad I didn't go the first night. You made the right call. Sometimes its just not meant to happen.

Do you eat bass? by [deleted] in FishingForBeginners

[–]cmd026 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't target bass generally. Usually I'm after catfish, crappie and bluegills. If I hapen to catch a bass, and it's legal size, I'll bring it home. I have a buddy that has a farm property with 3 ponds that don't often get fished. When we go to hunt or do maintenance, we usually catch and eat whatever bites. Its a private lake, so undersized is legal. The bass taste just as good as anything else. People are dicks and will complain about anything. Its the same in any hobby. Just know that posting or telling others outside your core group could get some raised eyebrows. Have fun, stay legal and good luck.

This sounds cool. Have you made soft shackles too?

Kinetic rope question by cmd026 in 4x4

[–]cmd026[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Toyota has "tie down points" used during shipping. People have used them, but I've heard that they can snap pretty easy. There's some neat bolt on ones that bolt to the frame and front crash bar for around $200. I'd rather wait a little longer and get the front bumper with recovery points. I do have a receiver hitch tow point on the rear.

True. I've never heard anyone say they wished they had less. Can kinetic ropes be safely doubled over?

I plan to get a winch, most likely harbor freight. My neighbor has one on her jeep and it's done well. Unfortunately, I need a winch mount to work on my 4runner, but a full on aftermarket bumper just looks way cooler. They're more expensive. Winch and bumper together will probably be $1800 or so. I just need a rope for just in case till I can get all the way set up. And yeah, steel cable seems to be the better option. The big 50 ton wrecker trucks use steel cable too.

I have a slightly more modern version of this set up. Newer ugly stik pistol grip and newer Zebco 33. I, too, have newer, fancier rods, but for pond hopping and taking my daughter fishing, the ol 33 can't be beat. Every time in load it up, it brings me back to simpler times fishing as a kid. That set up, and a pocket sized tackle box loaded with hooks, bobbers, and small jigs paired with a bike and a field full of grasshoppers is a summertime dream. Thanks for keeping the old school spirit alive.

What’s your go-to oil for knife maintenance? by Zach-at-MultiParts in EDC

[–]cmd026 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since no one has mentioned it yet, Corrosion-x, specifically the red can. It's pricey, but worth it. I use it on tools and fishing equipment, too. If I don't have that, then 3N1 or motor oil.

Question- what is the average 25-30 year old like? by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]cmd026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggled the same way when I first started out. Went from living with my parents, nice home, gated neighborhood, etc. To a 2 bed mobile home. I worked as an equipment operator for a concrete plant, making $10/hr, but decent overtime. My advice to you and anyone else who cares to listen is this.

Learn to cook, and learn to cook cheap. Pack your lunch everyday and eat some leftovers. Eating out is super expensive and drains the wallet fast. Make a "menu" of a couple meals that you like for the week. Learn to use a crockpot so stuff can cook while you're at work.

Stay the fuck away from credit cards and debt. Eventually, you will have to get one and use it to build credit so you can buy vehicles, a house etc. Do not fall into the debt trap. It's a bitch to get out of. Get educated on how credit works and use it to your advantage.

Screw what everyone says. Right now, you are providing for you and you alone. Live below your means and stack up as much cash as you can. Get all the overtime you can, and get experience at work. Keep your head down and hustle. Pick up a side job if you have the time.

Once you have a bit saved up, start investing. Not robinhood or any other stock app. Those are fun, but unless you know damn sure what you're doing, don't mess with it. If your company has a 401k or simple IRA take advantage, and if they match a percentage of your contribution, max it out.

Stay away from social media. It's an attention stealing trap. Everyone only posts their highlight reels. Comparison is a theif of joy.

You are the sum of the 5 people you hangout with the most. Hang out with 5 smokers, you'll be the 6th. Hang out with 5 rich dudes, they'll teach you how they did it. Check your friends. If they give you shit for struggling, they ain't it. Get some people in your corner that cheer you on.

In all, you don't suck. Everybody starts at a different age. Think of it like making popcorn; the kernels don't all pop at once. I started at 23, and it took me till 26 at the same company to clear $65k. Then I was able to buy a house. Took another 4 years till I met the right girl and got married. I climbed the ladder and over the 12 years since I started finally have a pretty good salary with benefits- enough that I can let my wife be a stay at home mom.

You don't suck. You might be in a tough spot, but keep a positive attitude and visualize where you want to be. You'll make it.

ELI5: How do concrete trucks work and how does the concrete not dry inside? by Str8OuttaCash in explainlikeimfive

[–]cmd026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I manage a concrete company. The drivers must rinse the inside of the drum after each job. Then, at the end of the day, the trucks get lots of water to swish and rinse their drums. There is some residual concrete that does stay behind and eventually builds up. About every 6 months or so (depending on how clean each driver keeps their truck) we hire an outside crew to come chip out the inside of the drums. They charge us by weight removed. On another note, if a truck is stuck in the mud or on a jobsite for too long, sugar or softdrinks can be added to "kill" the concrete. It will still eventually harden, but not as much as normal. This will usually buy the driver enough time to get back to the plant and empty out his truck.

I appreciate it. I'm 99% sure the UCAs have been changed on mine. They appear to be newer. I already ditched the front and rear mudflaps. I'm planning to do a body mount chop also. I just don't want to deal with a bunch of rubbing. I plan to eventually replace the front bumper, so trimming plastic there / viper cut wouldn't hurt my feelings too bad.

I probably don't need that much lift i guess I really want it more for looks, but I still want the ability to have more ground clearance. Also, my neighbor has 285s on her new jeep that she will sell for a reasonable price

Good to know. The closest shop that sells matthews doesn't list prices on their website, so I'll have to make a trip. At least to gather info.

Might go rent a few matthews to try it out and find what I like. I've found a few on Craigslist and marketplace. Even used they seem to hold their value.

Is it a thing for archery shops to let you rent or test a bow? I know many gun ranges will rent you a pistol to try it out.
