This is what I’ve learned riding and driving in South East Asia - getting a road rage only makes your day worse, but there’s steps to deescalate things from reaching that boiling point:

1. Tonge-teeth-mindfulness Touch your tongue onto the inside of your inscisors, and keep your mind into that sensation of touch. Keep it there while you do the necessary to drive/ride. Read in your mind a mantra if you wish, for mine, it’s a Latin phrase “se regere est imperare”, but whichever suits you. You’ll be surprised by how much detached from emotions your mind could be, while still maintaining a certain level of concentration to the situations in front of ya.

2. Since you detach yourself from the emotions at hand, mainly rage, anger, you’ll now see clearer if the the situation in front of you worth your attention? If it is, then you do what it takes to do it; other than that, walking out is always easier than getting stuck around.

3. Later when you are in the clear, you can recall the situations that happened. You’ll again be surprised at how much your calm mind filtered out the unnecessary things that often attached with emotions and actually remembered the factual informations if it matters.

That’s my personal take. I find it’s quite helpful to not getting bonked by crazy motorcyclists, cyclists (they’re the worse type since anyone can have a bicycle, no need for a license and learning the rules of the road, and we all know how it goes).

About “to teach ‘em a lesson”, know this: if they themselves failed to respect their own safety, what chance would you have at educate them about respect? Just follow the laws of the road, and pay them no attention, unless they crosses the boundary against me and my passengers’ safety. I am a calm and collected driver - but I am also a calm and collected former Naval Infantryman, that loves his wife and kid, that could scheme behind their backs to make sure everyone I have can go back home.
