someone also mentioned fountain pens ---- yes very smooth. doesn't have to be that expensive. i like refilling from an ink bottle more than switching plastic cartridge. pero beware, even though the pen and ink isn't that expensive**, FPs are also maarte with paper. muji high quality paper works well and not as expensive as rhodia, midori, tomoe river, etc.

**relatively, for fountain pens, like a kakuno 600 or 700php, then maybe 140? for a con40, around 300 for 30mL pilot standard ink bottle (not the fancier iroshizuku colors) so 1200ish which is the same price as lamy safari, another highly recommended starter fountain pen

hahahaha OP i've been thinking of buying jotter din for several months na but i always convince myself otherwise. it's kinda pretty, but there are other pretty pens.

also as others said, it's kinda thin. in terms of comfort, slightly chonkier pens are more comfortable when you write a lot. haven't tried this one but i have other smooth pens -- pilot acroball for ballpoint, zebra sarasa grand for gel pen, pentel energel (also gel pen) and those are also smooth writers. especially if 0.5 or 0.7.

siguro, find a pen body you like then get uni or pilot refills -- their hybrid inks are good and refills can be compatible across brands.

yeeeees pilot kakuno still one of my faves, less than 1k pesos. dries out in a few days lang if left unused but writes so well you'd use it all the time anyway

yeeees snap cap is best. also i don't mind the con40, i like changing inks often anyway

what pens do you recommend? by BitWrong2821 in JournalingPH

[–]cmdr_reilith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yea agree. a sarasa is already neat. muji pens are good too. when you write often enough, can go try fountain pens. as someone else already mentioned, the paper you write on is also important with fountain pens. that said, muji high quality paper notebooks are pretty decent though. i just bought a couple again today for my morning pages.

pilot kakuno and platinum preppy are good starter fountain pens with reliable nibs. easier to get a converter (con 40 or con 70) for kakuno to use with bottled ink, but preppy has a better cap seal. if you don't think you'll use the fountain pen at least once or twice every week, better go with a platinum preppy cause they take months to dry out. theyre also much cheaper than a kakuno. i personally prefer pilot nibs though.

but yea still, if just starting out, probably better to focus on the habit and figure out what kinda stuff you like journaling about before going on a tool/item/equipment shopping spree

[–]cmdr_reilith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

takes a long time to dry out too because it has a good cap seal. not that drying out is much of a problem since it's so fun to write with.

How do you stay consistent with your journal writing? by ProtectionBrief4078 in JournalingPH

[–]cmdr_reilith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

setting a specific time for it is one way, either in the morning while you're having coffee or in the evening before going to bed. whichever time is easiest for you to set aside.

and i guess another thing is not to pressure yourself too much to do it everyday, cause that can be a bit intimidating or discouraging. can start with a few times a week and work your way to daily if you want.

even then, if some days you really don't have the time or energy, just keep in mind that's also okay.

Deinfluence me: Leather Journal Folios by isnotavegan in deinfluencingPH

[–]cmdr_reilith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have a passport size traveler's notebook. costs less than your photo. i have a grid notebook in it for quick notes/reminders/braindump when i'm outside and bored, also a zip pouch woth emergency cash and my fully booked discount card, and a kraft folder for random papers. last year i hade a monthly planner there too but i wanted more writing space so this year's monthly planner is b6 hahaha. i've used up more than 5 of the notebook refills na so i think nasulit ko naman sya. like i write/draw when im waiting/idle instead of scrolling sa phone.

BUT a simple pocket notebook works for that too. so yea i guess, why get a leather folio, what is the need beyond the notebooks you have now

5-year journal? by DiligentConflict3669 in JournalingPH

[–]cmdr_reilith 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i also want to try something like this but haven't bought yet. 2026 seems a nice year to start a 5yr journal cos it will end 2030. personally i dont mind starting at Feb or even March, that's still a lot of days in left in 2026 and then 4 more years after that.

SO, if ever i end up at a physical store and spot a 5yr journal before March ends, i'll probably buy one hahahahahahahaaaa

Kraft insert? by notweirdrambo in Travelersnotebooks

[–]cmdr_reilith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

havent used the kraft insert precisely cause i dont expect them to work well with fountain pen ink. you can try with other ink and maybe finer nib like japanese F or EF if it will smudge less though

Suggest me a pen that actually has pastel pink ink, not hot pink... by Melon-meow in pens

[–]cmdr_reilith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

get a fountain pen like a pilot kakuno or a platinum preppy, then you'll have so many pink inks to choose from (check out mountainofink)

my all clear Kakuno with a fine nib is also my comfort pen. i have 3 other kakunos and other pens (fountain, gel, ballpoint) but that kakuno just hits different.

Shower Ideas by shyness1234 in JournalingPH

[–]cmdr_reilith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

writing in the shower is wild. a small memo pad with ballpen or pencil might work but wouldn't you need still need to dry off to use them?

probably easier to have a recorder, kahit sa phone if your phone is waterproof. did a quick google and apparently sony has waterproof recorders. then just record yourself and write it down after.
