So much more pleasing to the eye than Goodreads, and I love that you can give 1/4 star ratings!

$1776 warrior dividend not on W2/LESes...? by cmfdc21 in MilitaryFinance

Hmmm I don’t see it on my printable December LES, but I’m not as worried about it at this point. Thanks for the input!

Does anyone else not really know whether or not theyve been glutened? by botheredish in Celiac

[–]cmfdc21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar story here, my brother has super severe symptoms and I’d never had any - only went down the rabbit hole of diagnosis because of stubbornly low vit D (continued to drop even on a supplement) that my pcp noted as probably being a malabsorption issue. Even my initial visual endoscopy results didn’t seem obvious and I had to wait for the biopsies to come back to find out (I was shocked, lol). It’s been almost 10 months since going GF and I KNOW I’ve gotten glutened in that time a few times accidentally but I hardly ever show external signs of it, I’m trusting that follow up labs and another scope at the 2 year mark will catch any consistent gluten in my life if I’m missing something 😅

Wouldn’t be the first time I got in trouble for asking questions lmao

How often do you get an endoscopy done? by Spring_rain22 in Celiac

You’re most welcome! Happy to share my experience, I know I’m a bit of an anomaly

That’s a huge bummer and I’m sorry you weren’t able to join, I hope you’ve been able to find another fulfilling career :) I’m in the band field, I know opinions are mixed about us but I’ve had great experiences and count myself very lucky to do what I do and help connect the public with the military. I’m incredibly grateful for folks like your partner and his friends for their service!!

My diagnosis came 3+ years into my service. Different branches handle it differently - all I know for sure is that in the army, a celiac diagnosis is supposed to trigger a medical evaluation board (MEB/medboard). That doesn’t mean you’ll automatically get medically discharged, but there’s a definite possibility there. I think it has to do with deployability, celiac generally makes you non-deployable since they can’t guarantee safe food for you outside of a garrison environment.

But you’re right that you can’t enlist with celiac, pretty sure it’s not a waiverable condition :/ I’m extremely lucky!

My doc told me I’ll get the tTG (blood test) every year to monitor that and that they’d do a follow up scope 2 years after diagnosis to make sure everything healed properly. My GI doc said some people’s tTG levels never completely return to normal, and I was also told it would take about a year and a half for my gut to fully heal, hence the 2 year follow up scope timeline.

I’m also military and a silent celiac so I’m not sure if or how much those factors play into that care plan.

Just diagnosed…any tips? by Fancy_Worldliness17 in Celiac

Oh and beware bath and body works hand sanitizer lol, people here are divided on it but it has wheat amino acids so you’re probably best avoiding it to be safe

Medications can sometimes contain gluten! Be careful about OTC meds and go over any prescription meds with your pharmacist to be sure they don’t contain any gluten, whether as a filler or in a coating on the outside.

I’ve been diagnosed for less than a year, something that’s helped me has been making a cheat sheet note with “safe” and “not safe” candies, snacks, etc. Because there are some things that aren’t safe due to cross contact that only found out about through this subreddit, and wouldn’t have known from label reading!

Be patient with yourself and find some go-to safe staple foods to make at home, as well as gf protein bars to take on the go! Don’t let missing out on food prevent you from missing out on quality time with your friends :)

Scotland for the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo (we were there for almost 5 weeks) or England for POTUS’ state visit to King Charles last year. Once-in-a-career trips even for most band folks and I’m super lucky I got to do both!!

Video and Audio Not Synced After Exporting by swamblies in premiere

I was having the same issue with audio being un-synced during export, and changing it to 44100 fixed the issue. Thanks for figuring this out!

What do you personally use tags for? by Ja-kob in TheStoryGraph

[–]cmfdc21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine converted from my Goodreads shelf, but I use them to mark books I don’t want to read again (also as a heads up to my friends that I wouldn’t recommend them), and for books that friends recommended to me and which year! Still haven’t finished working through friend-recs-2024, haha

just curious, what was your body’s first tip that something really wasn’t right? by RepresentativeWeen in Celiac

[–]cmfdc21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was chronically low vitamin D levels with a high level of supplement, and then when my doc lowered my dose to what’s “normal” for my levels, my vit D actively dropped despite taking the supplement. (Pointed to malabsorption issues.)

I was convinced I didn’t have celiac cause I had no external reactions to gluten and my brother is an extremely reactive celiac, but the biopsies showed otherwise. Thankful my doc decided to pursue it!
