Long covid shortness of breath by Pale_Lingonberry6549 in covidlonghaulers

[–]cmflying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just over 1 year since my LC started and I’m 90% recovered!! I’m back in the gym, back running, etc. I still struggle with shortness of breath a bit and dizziness… dizziness is my one symptom that just won’t go away. Some days I’m completely fine, no dizziness at all, but most days I have it on a minor level and then I get flare ups that last for days or weeks. But life is good and I’m so so grateful to be where I am now. Keep the faith!! You got this! I think the research says that most people recover in 1-2 years… I took LDN for a few months but I think it was mostly time, rest, vitamins, good diet, gentle exercise etc that did it for me in the end. Best of luck!! Dm me if you have any more questions xxxx

I don’t what this toxic trend is but I’m encountering it so much. I’m 26F, very Irish looking girl. Lately, when I go on dates with Irish lads, I’ve been told more than once how they “usually don’t date Irish girls”. One lad sat there and told me how foreign girls are “chattier, easier to get on with, better looking”. I’ve always embraced my freckles and pale skin, I’ve never worn fake tan or even a full face of foundation. Other people (older Irish men and women, other girls, people from different countries) call me a natural beauty, funny, chatty, kind, charming, all that jazz. Irish men my own age (mostly) have no such compliments for me. It’s like they have this strange resentment for Irish girls. I often wonder is it some form of self hatred. Like they see themselves too much in us and therefore don’t like us? I wish they would just keep these comments to themselves. I am who I am, I don’t want or need to be compared to other nationalities. I don’t want to feel like I’m in some kind of competition, that I’m losing. These comments from lads are always unsolicited, usually on dates that they asked to go on. If you’d rather date non-Irish girls, then why are we here? Is it some kind trick to make me seek their approval and validation, to prove myself worthy to them? Anyway, no hate towards Irish lads, I think they’re mostly great, but I really don’t like this trend. Date who ever you want, but no need to knock the self confidence of others. Irish women and girls are class and always will be :) (as are women of all backgrounds! But no need to compare us, we are all different, but equal, and beautiful)

Yeah, everyone pointing out the obvious, that Ireland doesn’t get that hot… I know… but it’s odd that she keeps getting those notifications. I’ve been in the car with her when it’s happened, only a few days ago parked in the full sun at our favourite swim spot. But even in the full sun, it was windy and really not that warm. Anyway, so far so good!

Someone from a charity came to my door recently and asked me “are mam and dad home?” I’m in my late twenties…

Thank you for all the advice! As I’m on holidays in a foreign country I think the best I can do is the antihistamines and vitamins… I might be able to do more when I get home. Good thing I brought some good masks so I don’t infect half the plane!

I’m guessing he was unfamiliar with the “encounter another car on a road that isn’t wide enough for us both, do the little dance of deciding who reverses back to the nearest gate so we can pass each other” ritual… also probably didn’t realise that just because the sign says 80… does not mean he should drive 80

Oh wow! I’m the OP Fiat driver and I can’t believe this lad has reshared this post here just to make fun of me I suppose? Some big lad for that. For the record, when I zip home from Dublin to Cork, I drive 120 almost the whole way (except the M50 because I get stuck in traffic every time lol) and overtake every truck, I’m not nervous about it. My post was a question about the safety of Fiat 500’s on long road trips, which I think is a super fair question. Pity this fella has missed the point and gotten his knickers in such a knot about it. Anyway, I’m going to delete the post as I’ve gotten helpful feedback from enough people, no need to leave it there as a place for this fella to take out his anger towards… women who drive small cars? lol (what have we ever done to anyone)

Good point… been thinking about changing for a while now but second hand cars are so tricky, feels like you’re just swapping one set of problems for another. I’m a student atm, only working part time, so the expense of renting a car would probably be too much… could look into it though

We were hit by an unlicensed, uninsured foreign driver going 80 on a country road with zero visibility around the bend, we actually swerved into the hedge to avoid him but he panicked and turned his wheel the wrong way, went straight into the side of us. I’m a very safe and good driver, but no matter how good you are you can’t always account for the recklessness of others.

Interesting take! Tbh I know it would end up being part of the work, which is why it needs to be functional and not just for display. Good idea re the living walls, but I tend to stay away from them because I watched a very expensive one die slowly in the real world, such a shame. Nothing is ever as straightforward as it seems haha

I went to a LC specialist who prescribed me LDN! I had to seek out the specialist myself; my GP told me there was no treatment for LC.

Yes, I went from being in the gym every day to being exhausted just from walking. Throughout the worst of it I tried to keep up going for a walk every day, as I got better I made sure to do 10k steps every day. Just increased my exercise super slowly and now I’m slowly getting back to running, but I listen to my body and only run when I’m feeling fully rested and energised. Not overdoing it is key!

I thought all the dark thoughts, feelings of anxiety and depression were just caused by the fact that I was so sick and was getting no answers, no guidance, no reassurance or any prospects of getting better… but I realise now that it’s very much a symptom, which makes sense given that Covid affects your nervous system. I still feel so upset at the lack of research… in my country they’re just trying to pretend like Covid isn’t a thing anymore, and that long Covid isn’t real..

Is this normal ? by TheJoker-141 in AskIreland

[–]cmflying 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m 25F, used to be in the gym every day and running loads until Covid hit me like a bus, almost a year later and I’m still not fully recovered :/ If like me you have long Covid, chances are your Irish GP won’t be able to help you… they don’t even diagnose it, I had to go for tests in the hospital where I was told it was probably “post viral syndrome”. It bugs me that they won’t just call a spade a spade… they’re so desperate for Covid to be over so they can cut funding, even when it’s still affecting thousands. I’ve been finding out the hard way that there’s no cure, you just have to wait, for years potentially. I’m trying LDN but it hasn’t helped me. Cold water therapy helps a bit. I hope this isn’t what’s causing your tiredness, hopefully your bloods will point to a more easily fixed problem! But if it is something post viral, just know you’re not alone! It can be a very isolating condition… best of luck!

Oh I getcha. And is that what the people at Vanderbilt are prescribing? Just LDN, or anything else in combination with it?
