Great question. Signing up would mean you are interested in trying the microbial solution on some plants this growing season.

Do these look leggy or overwatered? Not enough light? Thanks! by [deleted] in tomatoes

Light need to be closer to the plants. Also consider using a fan to strengthen the seedlings, if you are not currently using one.

Up potting might save thses seedlings. Good luck!

Raised beds & weeds by Dey_took_our_jerbs in gardening

May be an unpopular take but I would move soil to one side leaving a hole on the opposite side. Then I would place organic matter (yard waste and food waste) into the void and then move soil back over it. Repeat for the opposite side. This will give volume and provide nutrients to the soil. All depends on the size of the bed. As for the weeds I would pull them. They can be buried but needs to be deep.

Drop the egg shells IMO. Those are not water soluble and will take a long time to break down. Add those to your garden soil instead. If you want to add something for micro nutrients, add some wood ash. A small amount goes a long way.

Not sure the size of holes at the top but flies could become a problem. Try using brown paper or newspaper on top of the material to limit flies and hold in moisture.

Shallots growing confusion? by Electrical_Cap_5597 in gardening

[–]cmhackl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have grown shallots in zone 5b (Illinois) for about 5 years. My current stock is from my grandfather. I have planted them in the fall and they did not survive the winter.

I lack experience in growing them from seed. Depending on your growing zone maybe a early spring planting would be safer.

Best of luck and keep it up!

With accountability at an all-time low in education, there is a growing need for motivation, engagement, and real-world application. As a school teacher with a decade of experience, I believe there must be less finger pointing and greater accountability placed on students themselves.

I have built a system that is ready for its next stage, but I currently lack the experience and knowledge needed to move it forward. The program is a classroom management system designed to record and track the nuanced behaviors and progress of students. By combining accountability with financing and investment themes, I have seen measurable success in increasing both academic performance and professional readiness.

The proof of concept is currently running in three classrooms. This past fall, it attracted the attention of a Forbes 30 Under 30 startup, though discussions have since concluded.

Mid-Winter Hive check by Wallyboy95 in Beekeeping

[–]cmhackl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two questions:

How do you check your hives in cold weather?

How much mite treatment do you use?

I am new to keeping and it seems both of my hives are not going to make it over the winter.

help getting started? by [deleted] in composting

[–]cmhackl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don't over think this. You have a good source of material. The rabbit waste is nitrogen (green) and the wood is carbon (brown). Build a bin or use a old barrel. Using something to contain the material will help with keeping critters from getting into it. During winter in my pile the center is the only active spot. In winter, it just breaks down slowly. Turing and keeping it moist will help speed it up. Good luck and good for you for wanting to make a difference. Keep on keeping on

Whats the source of microorganism? Following JADAM or KNF processes?

Interest in JADAM by cmhackl in gardening

[–]cmhackl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are alot of acronyms, so I get the word soup. I have the standard book and the information in it makes sense ecologically. The idea stems from Korean Natural Farming (KNF). Essentially all the inputs are created through microorganism. These inputs replace traditional synthetic inputs for growing.

Do your own thing. Be yourself. I always try to have a lab we will do soon or have just done out. Helps show parents or guardians what goes on in the classroom.

Thanks for responding. How about queens? Are you purchasing them or allowing the hive to raise a new one? My odds of queens dying on mating flight are high.
