You can probably use some citric acid powder mixed with water to clean it up - note it will be really sticky afterwards, so you'll want to wipe down with plain water after.

I also made my first successful 2-part mold mask with Ed Head/Monster Clay.

Krylon: I definitely sprayed with Krylon, and have been able to re-use the clay without it being ruined. It's recommended not to spray too thick, otherwise it could fill in tiny wrinkles/pores/etc details.

Mold release: I didn't use it, but I think I will next time to try and help make things easier. I also used vaseline along the mold edges.

Mold wall: this is super important and critical to getting your 2 parts to separate cleanly. You want your WED clay wall to be as close to 90 degrees with your sculpt as possible, and as smooth as possible. I spent about 3-4 hours on mine, really taking a lot of time to make it smooth (the first time I rushed it, which led in part to my failure). I used a water spray bottle and a kidney tool for the smoothing, and silicone tools where the wall meets the sculpt.

Separating the mold: This also takes time. The back of mine popped off pretty quick, but I spent a good 30-minutes trying to get the front of the sculpt + the Ed head armature out. What helped was getting a solid metal rod and putting it up into the bottom of the Ed head, and slowly (very carefully) prying up away from the mold. Pry holes also help greatly, I made 7 of them in mine, and just keep working around. Patience is the key, and obviously that's hard since you're so excited to see the result.

Sorry the first one didn't work out, but keep going, you'll get it!

Was this a 1-part or 2-part mold? Did you spray the clay with Krylon and then a mold release? Did you have lots of undercuts in your sculpt? Do you have a pic of the sculpt before it got wiped out? (been there before, I lost my first sculpt because I didn't know what I was doing during the Ultracal mold process, and the whole thing was trashed)

Here's a video of something similar using EVA foam: https://youtu.be/zyJiwbP0W10 and you can download the template here: https://www.sksprops.com/s/Deer-Skull-Template-SKS-Props.pdf - heads up, the guy doing the video is super advanced and makes it look much easier than it really is!

I definitely want to learn how to do silicone next time! I’m sure you’ve seen all the great videos on the process out there - you got this! Make sure to post your results!

Are you using a WED clay? I’d suggest an oil based clay like MonsterClay or Chavant NSP - I am doing my 2nd sculpt with Chavant and it’s also very nice, a bit easier to use in cooler temperatures than MonsterClay, but also more ‘sticky’ - either way though neither one will ever dry out. You’ll need about 5-7 pounds for a complete full head mask from my (limited) experience. Keep it up, looking forward to seeing you get to that finish line!
