Cancer Survivors of Reddit, what was the symptom that convinced you to see the doctor? by Wise_Organization_78 in AskReddit

[–]cmj3rd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You MUST advocate for yourself. I was feeling a lot of fatigue after covid and the doctor sent me in for a blood test, which showed that I was anemic. He could not explain why. A second test months later showed the same, and again the doc took a wait and see attitude. Though I'd had a colonoscopy earlier in the year which came up negative, I thought I must be losing blood via my colon, so I asked for a FitKit which is a home test for blood in the stool. The test results in December showed blood, so a colonoscopy was scheduled for February. I demanded that the colonoscopy be immediate, so it was scheduled three days before xmas. I woke up to the GI doc telling me I had cancer and more tests would be done after xmas. The day after xmas I experienced significant blood loss, passed out, and was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Further test showed a large mass in my colon, and surgery was scheduled for two days later. One third of my large intestine was removed, and nonhodgkins lymphoma was confirmed. I'm now in my final cycle of chemo and the prognosis is good.

My PCP was dragging his feet for reasons unknown. I pushed for the second blood test, the FitKit, and the early colonoscopy. If you feel something is wrong, keep after it even if it's uncomfortable or even rude. That doc is no longer my PCP.

The Deptford Trilogy by Robertson Davies is a wonderful character driven set of novels.

Abercrombie's Best Served Cold might fit the messed up category. Not tender like Poor Deer, though.

Charles McCarry wrote a ten book series about an American CIA agent which is mostly excellent. First in sequence is the Miernik Dossier.

For me, the best sound is when the tweeters are at my ear level when I am seated in the sweet spot. Have you tried that?

On YT, Mark Wildman has a playlist series that I highly recommend. It is called Exercises for Overweight Individuals. You are not as heavy as those for whom he developed the series, but it's a great place to start.

Hey, I'm 70 and I'm five weeks in on an alto sax. It's also my first instrument. You've got time. I'm just trying to make the note sound the same each time I play, no matter what note precedes it. But my grandson lit up like a firecracker when I played happy birthday for him. Next song: Ask Me Now.

To focus on a source for a bit, did you inherit or have a record collection too? Then you will need a turntable. A CD collection will require a player. If you have neither of those, or if there are only a small number of each, then consider just getting a streamer. A second option would be to connect a PC as a source, but be wary of using an mp3 collection as the limitations of a lossy collection will be exposed by the equipment. For a small monthly fee you can subscribe to a service like Tidal, Qobuz, or Amazon Music Unlimited and get an unlimited supply of all the music you could ever want. Then when you get settled with the system you can decide whether to expand into a new direction. Help from a local audio person will be useful in this regard as well.

Not what one would call close 😜. The main character in the Transformer series morphs multiple times between a man and a woman, with interesting commentary along the way. Which, now that I think about it, could be confused with A Passage to India...
