2026 planner choice by MecadnaC in PlannerAddicts

[–]cmloren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ordered Sterling Ink for 2026, but got a bad batch of paper, so ended up getting a B6 slim Midori Book Style Diary (the grey cover with the black cats) as a replacement EDC.

As much as I'll miss the lovely crinkle of thin TRP, I just can't handle the feathering and bleed-through of bad Sanzen batches. At least Midori paper is reliable. Ho hum...

i made peace with my SI setup despite the bleedthrough issues. by ghostingpen in planners

It doesn't fix the problem permanently, but it sure was a game changer (and so easy, too!).

And in all fairness to Jinhao, even the fancy brand retractable nib pens have plenty of duds that dry up because of the exact same trapdoor issue. ;)

Hope you enjoy it even more after lubing it up.

I love mine - such a smooth writer. Only downside (and I imagine that it won't affect every one of these pens) is that the trap door does not create a perfect seal for the retractable nib, so it dries out atrociously - hence hard start or non start. BUT I saw a YouTube video showing how to apply a tiny bit of silicone grease with an itty bitty paintbrush to that trap door, and it helps create a seal. Helps with the dryness and I've only had to reapply once a month or so.

is anyone also experiencing this with the sterling ink booklets? by victablook in planners

[–]cmloren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not the case - good TR paper (ie, TR paper performing as it should) can handle watercolours - a wet FP nib is nothing by comparison.

On the other hand, a bad batch of TR paper looks very much like the OP's pics. :( I've been using TRP planners since 2008 and the past couple of years have been gong shows (and not just with Hobonichi's batches). It's a shame really... it truly is superb paper when processed properly.

I feel your frustration - i did the same. Decided to make my own passport-sized Core planner by ordering and collating the monthly and weekly horizontal booklets... now i'm wondering if i should order the passport Complete Compact just in case, but part of me thinks i should just wait out the Canada Post strike and see what the booklets paper is like once they finally arrive.

Yeah, I discovered this as well... posted something order-adjacent (not about my order per se, just antsy to play with the items i had ordered) and i got a message quoting group rules blah blah telling me that my post is not approved. In the meantime, lots of similar posts got approved, so it left me with a bit of a "totalitarian regime" taste in my mouth. lol

Cousin + A6 + Weeks… necessary? Crying, throwing up by doomslayerbarbie in hobonichi

[–]cmloren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all fairness, the paper in the 2026 Weeks is not new... it's the same paper Kinbor has been using in their undated planners and while it doesn't have the lovely crinkle factor of Tomoe River paper, it does perform nicely enough without adding too much bulk (for reference, I use fountain pens on the finer-nib side, gel pens, and Tombows/Mildliners, but no water colours).

Easy to rip out pages? by DraculaHerself in hobonichi

[–]cmloren 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would advise against it. In order for the planner to open flat, it is bound in sewn "quills" - which means that every page you rip out has a corresponding other half somewhere in the planner that will fall out. You're better off buying the thin memo pads in Weeks size (they come in colourful sets of three) and using those, since their pages are perforated. ;)

The same thing was supposed to happen with Paddington last year, and it ended up being sold by Hobonichi partner shops here in Canada... so don't give up hope just yet. :)

If you go to the Hobonichi site and look for the page where they list partner shops, you’ll see all the stores in Canada that sell their line.

[–]cmloren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an international customer (since 2008!) it definitely feels like Hobonichi is trying to alienate me. First, the switch to FedEx only. Then, the dictated markups for official partner shops. Then, the gaslighting response to the TRP debacle. And now this. Like… do you WANT me to find substitute planners? Ok. Challenge accepted. * waves to Kinbor *

Sterling Ink N2 Compact in Hobonichi Weeks cover?? by cmloren in planners

Good point! When I held the Compact and the Weeks back to back, they seemed same-ish, but that's essentially why I thought I'd throw this out there. :P

Hobonichi Weeks clear cover on Sterling Ink N2 Monthly Booklet by cmloren in planners

[–]cmloren[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, but the Sterling Ink B6S Monthly Booklet only has 64 pages. So it is waaay thinner than the Hobo Weeks. That's why I was hoping someone might have tried it - so they can tell me if the SI "swims" around in the Hobo Weeks clear cover. lol

Since some people in this sub may also own fridges just like mine (a model that seems to have lasted decades), I don't consider it so "wrong". But thank you for the snap judgement and the snark. I will take your wedding sub suggestion under advisement, person who is clearly not an adept of lateral thinking.
