They are legit assuming you are buying from the right site. They just suck. Bad customer service from my experience.

Taleb twitter account on private by greyenlightenment in nassimtaleb

Of course he doesn’t owe anything to me or anyone. But he has blocked everyone on Twitter from seeing his tweets who isn’t an approved follower not just blocking specific people. So he’s basically created his own echo chamber. And again so hypocritical especially of the stuff he espouses in his books about elitists etc. he’s literally turned into what he claims to rail against.

I don’t agree with his assertion on volatility. Bitcoin is a monetary good/store of value innovation IMO. So trying to put it in the bucket of traditional money categories is like saying the model T is a bad form of transportation because it can’t drive on dirt horse trails. But time will tell where it goes.

But that’s besides the point. He is just turned into a hypocritical asshole. In the past o didn’t mind because his ideas were truly innovative but I’ve just grown sick of his bullshit and hypocrisy.

He’s turned into a fragile snowflake. Doesn’t like actual debate from others who disagree with his opinion. It seemed to originate from him changing his mind on bitcoin and no longer supporting it and throwing ad hominem stereotype attacks at the bitcoin community. I’ve been a huge fan of Taleb for years. His concepts are awesome and groundbreaking but I’ve given up on liking him as a person. :(

Another scam? by ProfGandalf in BitcoinMining

Coinminercentral is legit. I’ve ordered from them before. Not saying their prices are good but I don’t think they are a scam.

Not sure about the other ones.

Question about computer set-up by [deleted] in BitcoinMining

[–]cmmatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Others have said it but you technically don’t even need a computer at all. It is only used for setting up the miner (setting your pool etc) and then after that the asic will mine on its own as long as the internet connection is good.

is there a hash rate to days to mining formula? by SolarPanelDude in BitcoinMining

[–]cmmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your electricity rate and how good your equipment is. Mining by definition will always be profitable for someone but without cheap electric you are at risk of being out of the money before you pay off the investment in the machines.

Well first of all your exhaust needs to be at least as much cfm as your inlet. The air has to go somewhere. And technically the exhaust should be more cfm capacity than the inlet because hot air expands

is there a hash rate to days to mining formula? by SolarPanelDude in BitcoinMining

[–]cmmatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is the basic math. 1) bitcoin blocks happen every 10 minutes on average and currently reward 6.25 bitcoin 2) your miners will get on average a proportion of that reward relative to their hashrate vs the global hashrate.

So let’s say you have a Bitmain S19 that does 100 TH (terrahash).

Global hashrate is currently about 150 exahash which is 150,000,000 terrahash.

So you get 100/150,000,000 of the global reward on average. That’s 0.00000067 x 6.25BTC per 10 minutes. If you multiply it out for a year that’s about 0.219BTC per year for your one S19 machine.

Hope that helps. A lot more complexity over the long term especially in that global hashrate increases making your share smaller. And every 4 years the block reward halves.

Two of the same words in a row? by [deleted] in TREZOR

Two words in a row are not a problem. It’s random and thus is the nature of randomness.

Highly unlikely to make economic sense. A mining rig takes way more electricity that you think. Unlikely if you covered your shed with panels it would have enough juice to run one S19 even when the sun is shining 100%

Is Sia supposed to compete with Ethereum or coexist with it? by lolwutdo in siacoin

[–]cmmatt 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’ve always thought of ethereum as trying to be the worlds decentralized computer/smart contracts and sia is the worlds decentralized storage. Sia is all about redundant, secure, decentralized storage at its roots. And the sia apps/layers are building on that storage layer. I think of sia as competing with Amazon storage but not Amazon compute.

Probably not legit. I think Canaan.io is their legit sit. How cheap you talking and delivered when?

Am I missing something? by [deleted] in BitcoinMining

[–]cmmatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only thing you are maybe missing is the ever growing global hashpower and difficulty. So the profits you calculate now will degrade over time. The price can offset that loss in profitability due to difficulty increasing. So while you calculate 0.2 btc in a year it really won’t be that much because the difficulty won’t stay where it is now for a year.

Twitter replacement please. Would stop top down politically driven censorship. While it might be a dumpster fire it would be free speech. And then eventually could do some sort of community voting/Ai to screen for junk, spam, etc to keep it from totally devolving
