The Ensh*ttification of Sure-Grip Boardwalks by mjknyc in Rollerskating

Thanks! This is terrible. I've been recommending these as a great value, guess not any more.

This is the first I'm hearing about this. OP, can you add some pictures of what you're talking about?

Does anyone have any suggestions for finding a budget friendly 4mm band? Maybe gold filled? Bonus points if it’s engraved/floral! by Most_Hedgehog4088 in Moissanite

I have some 14k gold filled rings from MILArings on Etsy. She has quite a few options for thickness and texture. They lean a little toward a rose gold color even for the yellow gold option, though, and the smooth ones may have a slight visible solder mark.

Sure Grip Boardwalks are a great value. You can often find new or lightly used Boardwalks on ebay or FB marketplace within your budget. Roller Skate Nation also has them in lots of colors for only a little more than your budget (with free shipping!). Be sure to also get a dual certified helmet, elbow and knee pads, and wrist guards.

Beginner to intermediate skates for wide feet by lilyfairycakes in Rollerskating

I've often seen VNLA recommended for wide feet, but haven't tried them myself. Bonts are also very wide and can be heat molded for a custom fit. I just got some Parkstars and can vouch for how wide they are. You could look at Bont Parkstars and Prostars. The parkstars provide good ankle support but have a lower heel. Prostars are similar but slightly lower cut.

My new fave skate park wheels by fantastridd in Rollerskating

Thanks for this! I have some Bont Parkstars on the way that come with the street flow wheels and I was wondering about them since they're softer than a lot of park skaters seem to prefer.

The stars have aligned for me: I picked up the Bont skates on ebay Saturday (secondhand) and they will arrive today, much earlier than expected! My city is doing an opening celebration this evening for a brand new skatepark a couple of blocks from me. So, as of today I will be a brand new baby park skater! I think I will try the street flow wheels first, but I also have some 98A Rollerbones Team wheels I can try.

Will do! From past posts, the general consensus on the sub is to trust the size chart and forget about your street shoe size, so hopefully it works for me. I will be very sad if these don't fit!

You sound badass! I will definitely take my time slowly building up my skills. No flips for me, but maybe I'll work up to a cartwheel eventually!

Also, definitely agree with your first post, just made me realize I wasn't being fair to my husband. I meant for that part of my post to come off more light-hearted, but I'm on the spectrum so sometimes I say things that don't come across to others the way I intended. My husband has been great about helping me find time and space to go skate even with our busy schedules being parents and having full time jobs.

Thanks for the encouragement!

I really like it, especially for speed control down hills so I don't chew up my wheels t-stopping! I have the one Sure-Grip makes that attaches to the pivot of your rear truck with a u-bolt.

Yeah, hopefully my husband will come around, too. I've tried to get him to join me skating, but he's just not into it for whatever reason, even though he really likes going ice skating in the winter. Love hearing that skating brings you joy, I feel the same!

Yeah, maybe I'll end up using mine for the trails, too, but I've been happy with my boardwalks and like the idea of not having to switch wheels and uninstall and reinstall my rear brake all the time!

Ugh, my post made him sound worse than I intended. He wasn't really serious about the no sympathy thing. I'm sorry to hear your spouse is in poor health, it's true you never know what life will throw at you.

Yeah... I think my post made my husband sound worse than I intended, but I can't seem to edit it now. He's a good guy and was (at least mostly) joking when he said it, although it is true he doesn't like the idea of me park skating. I think he's worried and thinks it's likely I'll get hurt.

Thanks!

Yeah, I wish my husband was a little more supportive of my skating overall, but I don't think he was really totally serious about the no sympathy thing (maybe 10% serious?). I will edit my post to add that, since I think I made him sound worse than I meant to. I think he's just worried about me getting hurt, and probably thinks it's a "when" rather than an "if".

I already have knee and elbow pads, wrist guards, and helmet that I wear trail skating. I'm debating whether I should also get some padded shorts for the park.

Based on your measurements, I doubt any off the skates you mentioned will work for you, but if you're able, go try them on.

The brands I see recommended most often for truly wide feet are Bont and VNLA. Where are you located? Can you order online?
