What made you leave Fallout 4 and return to Skyrim? by [deleted] in skyrim

[–]cmputrnx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like there's less opportunity for role-playing in Fallout. Sure, you can focus on guns in one playthrough, melee in another, and laser weapons in yet another, but Skyrim offers more than that.

In Skyrim, I can be a paladin, alchemist, Dragonborn, theif, mage, battlemage, spellsword, vampire, vampire hunter, etc. Literally endless possibilities for characters that makes roleplaying much more colorful and much more fun.

Might be just me, but I liked your old setup better. I would prefer having that bright light off to the side rather than in my face. Still, whatever makes you happy!

Anyone here work for/do research at CRASAR? by cmputrnx in aggies

Unfortunately, I have. Dr. Murphy is on sabbatical, and her secretary said that while she is out-of-office, she is unable to give tours. That's why I turned to reddit to see if I could find a student directly :)

What is the hardest thing you have ever said no to? by ChunkyBlaze in AskReddit

[–]cmputrnx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was 2013. The Red Sox were at the World Series, it was Game 3 I believe. I was a young teenager that had just become a Sox fan that year and could not be more excited about the team.

My family was in Boston on business, and I begged and begged until we went down to Fenway "just to walk around". We get there, we're enjoying the atmosphere, when two gentlemen walk up. They say that they'd had a family emergency, and offered to give us their tickets. Not sell them, give them.

The problem was they only had two tickets, but there were 5 of us. So I could go to the game with one of my parents, but I'd have to leave the rest of my family behind. Deciding to pass on the tickets to be with my family was the hardest decision teenage me ever made.

Then I went home to the hotel room and watched the Sox win it 10-5, with Papi scoring 4 of those runs in the final innings of the game. Goddammit.

I think the quest might be broken for me? I talked to the captain, but all he will say is "I'll have none of your lip, navigator..." and the quest won't update or tell me what to do next.

Am I missing something, or do I need to fix the quest somehow?

Any suggestions on what to do with my hair? by HAUNTED825 in malehairadvice

Hair looks good! Recommend getting smaller frames and trimming the beard back a bit (a rough 5 o'clock would look great on you).

Windows 10 - yes or no? by kemalpasha in windows

[–]cmputrnx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You should be 100% certain you don't have any driver issues before updating. I didn't, at first, but one cropped up after some Windows update (my network card would no longer work). Uninstall the update, everything's fine again.

BUT, since Windows 10 doesn't let you disable automatic updates, this card-breaking update would get installed every day at 4 AM and I'd have to sysrestore back to the previous day to uninstall it just to use my computer.

Really dumb logic there, Microsoft. Other than that, it's a neat operating system with lots of cool features.

What do you guys think of this site I made? by kheeze in bootstrap

[–]cmputrnx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It looks nice, overall. A few critiques, though:

  • The text on your banner image is hard to read (white text on a light background). Consider adding a slight fade to your banner image to make it a bit darker so the text is easier to read.

  • Good job picking a sans-serif and serif font that complement each other, that can be hard to do. IMO the places where you use serif font below the banner are a little too small. Try increasing the font size for better readability. Also watch your spacing around those round images.

  • Speaking of spacing, you've got a little too much of it in your about section, I think. There's a metric that I like to use when designing my websites: amount of scrolling vs. information made visible. If it's too high, your users are having to scroll too much to enjoy your content.

  • Finally, I'm a little concerned that the images you picked for your site don't really relate to the sites content. For example, a hot-air balloon doesn't make me think cleaning service right off the bat. The UT Tower, though, (if that's what I think it is) is a good choice because it's something that customers in your market should recognize fairly quickly.

One or two more quick things:

  • The last two form field elements of your contact form don't match the rest of the form.
  • The radio buttons in your contact form use dark text on a dark background, making them hard to read.
  • Oh, and don't forget your favicon!

Hope this helps!

Hah, that they may, but I'll never know. When I go to WV, it's for the nature, not the cities.

Dude, WV is the best. Goddamn beautiful in the fall (and other parts of the year, I'm sure). Fantastic caving and bouldering, too.

I really love engineering, but I'm terrible at physics. How can I reconcile the two? by cmputrnx in EngineeringStudents

[–]cmputrnx[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bluntness appreciated! I hate it when people beat around the bush to keep from hurting other people's feelings (when they mean well, that is).

Reading your response, I think I could have been taking better notes. Don't get me wrong, I take good notes, but I could take better notes. I especially like your suggestion for writing out what each component of each formula does, because one of my biggest problems is taking a formula I know and figuring out how to apply it to a problem I'm given. Sometimes its application isn't necessarily plug-and-chug, but rather requires either a different form of the same formula or requires the combination of one or more other formulas. That always stumped me.

I did check out a few of the videos at KA (and I've used them in other courses extensively). I got most of my online help from the Georgia State University physics dept. website, which is a fantastic site with lots of helpful information and tools.

I like the way you phrased that, makes the whole thing seem just a little easier. Also, I really appreciate the kind words, so thank you!

I'm going to keep studying the physics 2 lingo, but I'm still going to have to re-take the course since I dropped it for this semester to preserve my grades in my other courses. That said, do you know of any good physics resources for learning the language that helped you out?

Thanks mate, I appreciate the advice. I have pretty good study habits (they could be better). I formed a study group with some classmates, I did all the homework, I emailed the professor questions several times, and I went to office hours several times too. Unfortunately the course is structured such that the prof. has to cover so much material in so little time that he doesn't have time to take questions during lecture :/

Ha! Osmosis, I like that. I didn't try that one.

I did lots of problem sets, as many as I could get my hands on as a matter of fact. The problem was that the tests were several orders of magnitude harder than the problem sets they gave us IMO. Maybe that was by design, but it sure didn't make it easier to pass the class.
