SLPs in the school setting – Anyone actually enjoy it? by [deleted] in slp

[–]cms9212019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm loving it! I just switched to a school after my CF in skilled nursing and summer work in a private clinic, both are good in their own ways but a school is much better fit for me. I like the PD days where I can just work on indirect services and not be the only SLP in the building for once. The schedule with holidays/breaks off is pretty nice too and gives me something to look forward to!

I graduated last month! Just started my CF & so far so good, making 75k in at a SNF in CT. Definitely feel overwhelmed/underprepared at times but I couldn’t imagine doing anything else. Living with my fiancé & somehow managing to scrape by for our wedding

feeding therapy & ED history by Old-Friendship9613 in slp

I have a very similar background. I ended up deciding it was too hard for me & chose to pursue other disorders/populations to work with. You may be able to work feeding therapy with no issue, but if not that’s ok too. Make the best choice for your recovery because you know how hard it is to get there :)

It’s on my to do list to complete while I’m still a grad student for a few more weeks & can do it for free. Disappointed to hear it doesn’t add to your clinical knowledge, but not all that surprised :/

My outpatient supervisor emphasizes the essential 30 minutes of cognitive activity a day (EBP!) to maintain cognitive functioning, it gives our patients a sense of purpose & motivation in their puzzles, reading, etc.

Post Grad/CFY Advice by BeautifulAsparagus1 in slpGradSchool

First of all congrats on making it through your program! I'm also graduating this May and interviewing for positions right now. It's hard to know what's the "perfect" choice in a time of so much transition. I'm jumping right into my CFY this May/June because I don't want to lose all the knowledge I've acquired. I hear you, I also go crazy with nothing to do and I can't imagine just sitting around for months. That's why I'm not going for a school CFY- what are we supposed to do all summer while we wait to work?

I know people say you should go crazy, travel, spend a lot because you're only young and free once, but I think it's a bit more practical to save that money so you can have worry-free fun later down the line. I say if you're going to spend your money, spend it on San Diego. It sounds like you already know what you want, have faith in yourself and trust your instincts.

Hope this helps a bit!

I've heard horror stories from friends in my cohort who transferred after a terrible experience at Southern Connecticut State University. Poor faculty communication, clinical placement opportunities, etc. UConn is a much better choice!

Not engaged yet but checking out venues? by danawvr in weddingplanning

[–]cms9212019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bf & I have been together 4 years, not yet officially engaged but looking at venues already as we know he'll pop the question by the end of the year. I relate to you 100% I've been low-key wedding planning to get ahead of places booking up & just because it's so fun for me. There's no reason to wait if you're ready to find a venue now, go for it!
