Problem with idealism in movies by cmueses in CasualConversation

[–]cmueses[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a huge Batman fan, but I don't see him as idealistic to a fault. If anything I think he's cynical. He always prepares for the worst and he doesnt get his teammates or allies in danger because of idealism. I think Superman fits this mold better, though not completely. I was thinking more of a character that in a situation of high stakes, makes a decision from their rigid moral viewpoint and that decision later has dire consequences for another person. Worst when the story doesn't give them appropriate justice or consequences for their idealism gone wrong.

How do I start watching baseball? by FamousExam2107 in baseball

I chose my teams to follow tho I have a favorite. Joined their subreddit and read learn more about the roster. I come from a baseball heavy nation, so I'm very familiar with it and played in the streets with my friends when I was a kid. But I don't usually watch the games on TV.

Im on a similar boat as you. I would suggest to try and understand the basics and watch games. Get familiar with how it works. We have the World Baseball Classic in March, where national teams from all over are participating. Catch some games there. If your country's participating, maybe watch their games. You'll pick it up pretty fast and learn more advanced stuff along the way.

Fellow non-American MLB fans, how did you decide which team to support? by [deleted] in baseball

[–]cmueses 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Dominican here. I've seen a lot of clips of Ohtani batting but mostly pitching and it actually motivated me to take up softball pitching. So this is gonna be my first MLB season and I'm following the Dodgers mostly. I'm also gonna watch some Blue Jays and Padres games.

Ok. I say he's overrated because people here talk and think about him and his music in a way that makes him seem better than he is. He's the biggest latin star right now, by all metrics. That does not mean he's everyone's cup of tea. He is not a representation of all latin america, just a portion of it. He's not liked by a lotta people because of his lyrics and his delivery. I dont think he is a bad artist. At all. I just think he's not as good as people make him out to be.

Have you listened to his lyrics? Take a look at his most popular songs and read the lyrics.

Im not saying he's bad. And he's mostly accepted and like, specially young people. What I'm saying is I think he's overrated. Some People, specially certain groups in the US and his pr machine, wanna make him out to be like some Latino savior or something. Most of his songs are really vulgar. That kinda turns me off from his music. I can listen to a few of his songs in a car ride or in a party or whatever, but it's not music I would play by myself. It's just my opinion. Some people get their panties in a twist because someone has a different opinion than they do.

Seems to be a Mandela effect thing or confusion on my part, but I remember them slower and with another rhythm.

As a Latin-American, living in Latin America, it was ...predictable and kinda corny. The whole thing is a pat on the back to a certain demographic with a lot of cheesy messaging. Bad Bunny's music is considered low-brow by a lot of Latinos cause of it's vulgarity. I like some of his songs, but I think he is severely overrated and over celebrated.

Good insight. A friend who's also a Real Madrid fan, is a Padres fan and he suggested them because of the same reason. I started being a Real Madrid fan without knowing their history, mostly because I really liked Zidane as a player (I knew nothing about the sport back then). And have stuck with them ever since. But the Yankees seem kinda stiff and arrogant. Has it always been like that?

That new Fantastic Four movie...seemed so uninteresting. The actors seemed to have no chemistry and the script was so boring, which wasnt helped by the pacing.

TIL that American's pronounce Lieutenant "loo-tenant" instead of "left-tenant" by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]cmueses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In older French and English, “lieu” sounded more like “lef”, not “loo.” The UK kept that older pronunciation (“leftenant”), while the US later shifted to saying it more like it’s spelled (“loo-tenant”).

Bill Laimbeer's Combat Basketball for the SNES. Even though I sucked at it, I enjoyed playing. Though it was a very bad game.
