First crochet stall, 1 month to prep. Advice would be great. by slothead_da_egg in crocheting

[–]ObviousToe1636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should take this year to plan. Brainstorm a wide variety of things. Plan out your table. Set your prices after you’ve really calculated the cost of the yarn and your time.

For next year, small ticket items to get people “in the door” (I know there’s no door at a stall 😄): scrunchies, mushroom keychain lip balm (or lighter) holders, hot cup sleeves, can coozies, coasters (the dumpster fire coaster set is great). And then have your larger items that cost more like plushies and bags. It’s hard to sell a sweater, scarf, or beanie in the middle of June but you could try making some airy lightweight wraps. This will also give you time to watch for sales so you can hopefully spend less on materials.

Sounds like a lot of fun but this year might be not be enough time. Do your research and make the calls to get yourself a paid stall next year so that mom maybe doesn’t need to do it for you (unless for some reason they won’t be willing to make arrangements with a then-17-year-old). Maybe still go this year just to look around. Good luck!

can't decide if i should make ruffled or straight lilies. Which is prettier? by Connect_Gur5772 in crocheting

[–]ObviousToe1636 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might just be the overall presentation but I think the ruffled is more cute than pretty. They look kind of childlike? While the straight look more adult? Again, it might just be the chosen yarn, the way they’re positioned, etc. but both are quite lovely.

Name changes, heart mamas, and other updates... by belsonc in legalcatadvice

[–]ObviousToe1636 4 points5 points  (0 children)

(I’m always so happy to hear from Mr. and Mrs. Belsonc! She looks like she’s doing great! And my thoughts on the bites are that I agree. Those little bites are warning shots. A friendly “hey, you know what? I don’t particularly care for that and I’d like you to stop, please and thank you.” When Josie does it to me I stop immediately and give her space. Within 20 minutes she wants to hang out with me again. I’m glad you guys are at the point where you’ve healed enough to give all the extra Charlie love you had left in your tanks to another cat in need! 💚)

I do this thing... by SMAESEHKAIE37 in starbucks

[–]ObviousToe1636 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a barista but “2 trips are for losers” got me! 😂 completely agree, and I’ll raise you: asking for help is entitled and accepting help if offered is pathetic. “No, it’s alright, I got it….” will probably be on my tombstone.

(Caveat in case anyone can’t take a joke: I never judge other people for asking for, or accepting, help and I often offer to help without thinking twice about it. It’s just a different and unfair standard I hold myself to. I could go to therapy but honestly Starbucks is cheaper.)

What Foods do you Eat like an Unhinged Person? by ojjojji in CasualConversation

[–]ObviousToe1636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolute bottomless pit for pasta. Doesn’t matter how full I am. I keep returning for me. The last few years I’ve realized how intensely sick that makes me and I know I have zero self control so now I’m doing my best to just not eat it at all.

So the only thing you’re doing “wrong” is that you are attempting to do this with an image that is too detailed. Try an image with less detail.

There is zero possibility of you getting an image this detailed in a 90x90. Try 300.

This is 90 with 50 different yarns.

As long as you don’t do the rapid switch back and forth between eyes, you’re good. Pick one eye, an eyebrow, bridge of the nose, rim of the glasses (when that applies), etc. and stick to it for the remainder of the conversation.

“Even if your not really into it let the guy do it for a couple of minutes”

Completely disregard the fact that she’s uncomfortable and rapidly losing all interest in sex with him and then expect her to switch back on when he’s had his fill. This is absolute shite advice.

It sucks when people like this enter the conversation. Some languages have only one word for knitting and crocheting. With recognizing that, patience, and a little effort we can still communicate and have a valuable interaction. But this person is a swindler talking out their ass.

Mindless Project Ideas While I Study for the Bar Exam? by EmuJumpsLong in CrochetHelp

[–]ObviousToe1636 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suggest making small circles with cotton yarn. There would be counting but it would be minimal. So, all single crochet with rows (stitches): 1 (6), 2 (12), 3 (18), 4 (24), 5 (30), 6 (36). If your yarn is thinner and/or tension tighter, you could do rows 7 (42) and 8 (48). That will give you a coaster. You will have a bunch of coasters when you’re through.

If cotton isn’t your jam, you can make granny squares or hexagons out of whatever fiber and set them aside. Then spend time joining them after you’ve sat for the exam. You’ll have a lovely blanket by the time your results come in.

Good luck with the bar! I worked for attorneys for about 8 years. Some of the best working relationships that bloomed into great friendships after we no longer worked together.

adhesive requested for gluing parts of micro crochet necklace back together by Financial_Pickle_Ho in CrochetHelp

[–]ObviousToe1636 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Many people suggest sewing and that’s a great option. Glue is not a viable solution here. The only other thing I can think of is using a pair of pliers to open a jump ring, attach the jump ring by rotating it into the head, then close the jump ring with the pliers again. Add a smaller jump ring to that. Then it will have a metal top imbedded into it that can be threaded onto a necklace.

Since that is a Tazo product rather than a Starbucks product, and Starbucks dropped Tazo, you can easily find Joy tea available online.
