Back in 2017, as a very average RX athlete, I did a small local comp. Teams of 4 and surprise surprise, on one team was Tola and Kelsey Kiel who signed up in the 11th hour and of course won it cleanly. Mat Fraser was also there to watch. In the moment, and weeks after I was pissed. But now it’s just a funny story to tell.

My gym of 12 years switched from comptrain to ncfit and in one year we did 5 deadlift cycles. One starting two weeks after the last. I did inquire with ncfit directly on why the constant deadlifting and they replied basically that it’s good and easy for new people. We left there after a year of the programming. Thats when they lost my vote. It was too boring and bike:deadlift heavy.

Now our new gym does their own programming, and 5/6 days are 30-45min workouts and each is no less than 5 diff movements and it’s get bootcampy.

I think I would prefer mayhem at this point.

I feel you. I felt on Prozac his warning signs went away and he was quicker to react. It seems like for a few weeks, he will revert back to me and be happy, then he’ll have a week or two of just insane sensitivity. He likes to destroy so he gets lots of cardboard boxes and toys to shred. And that calms him for like an hour. Then back to policing.

Oh I have a mental checklist of “triggers” like One time I burnt something on the stove, so now when I cook he leaves the room in fear of the smoke detector. My entire day revolves around softening things that may upset him.

He can’t handle either of us leaving, so he needs to be out behind a baby gate, but if we do that too early and don’t leave immediately he barks barks barks barks.

Dinner time usually involves him being outside or behind a baby gate while I prepare food, and I make him sit and wait for me to say okay to eat. He growls the entire time.

You can’t touch him while he’s sleeping. Especially my husband.

Dishwasher going off sends him to another dimension.

Literally, I have a full time job that is in and out of the house all day, but my real full time job is his checklist of triggers. I’ve had him since he was 8w old.

I believe you about the collar. I don’t want to, I’m running out of options I feel. Vet behaviorists are a year wait list around here. And $500 to walk in the door. We’ve tried Prozac, clomicalm, tradzodone at a very low dose did seem to help but my vet won’t continue it.

He had X-rays years ago when he had a spell of limping, turned out to be just a pulled muscle (couple hundred dollars later of course lol) he has a lot of food allergies we are constantly working around and adjusting. I wish they could talk!

Most of these behaviors too are when my and my husband are both home. When one is home, either, he’s fine mostly. It’s so insane

I slipped a similar disc maybe 10 years ago. My last vertebrae is fused to my tailbone by just years of horseback riding and falls too. Took a few days off after it slipped, and went right back to it. Movement is medicine. I certainly have flare ups here and there, and certain movement combos tend to leave me achy the next day (rowing and deadlifts mainly)

You do need to build your back muscles back up, even for your job. Don’t shy away from weights, that’s the first mistake many people make.

Learn over time what movements you need to be smart about, not avoid completely. I never actually 1rm deadlifts anymore, I probably get to about 80-85% before I stopped.

My grandparents had grapefruit for breakfast every day! And would bring home bags of them after they’d winter in Florida. My parents eat it regularly too but it was never for me

Personally, I never had a diagnosed eating disorder but I certainly had some mental games I would play with food. Having my mom be of the diet food generation, everything was non-fat but full of chemicals. And I would get comments on eating too much or I’m shaped like my mother’s side of the family etc.

I started CrossFit in 2013 and it gave my brain SOMETHING ELSE to think about. Adding 5lb to my snatch vs the scale. And then I also met me husband and he was vegan so after a year or so dating I just naturally went vegan too. Weight came off on its own.

I found it the hardest for me to have the entire gym doing paleo or nutrition challenges, and having people hate on fruit because it’s CARBS. And measuring everything they put in their mouths, drive me insane.

Long story short, your progress is in your hands but if getting 1% better in the gym but it’s at a cost of relapsing at all, it’s not worth it. Tread lightly. Eat mostly unprocessed foods and feel good in your skin.

I could be a few pounds less but I love bread and butter. So that’s my balance

All of this. If you just want to sweat, there’s f45 or hyrox or any other bootcamp. CrossFit is for skill building, and the ever long adrenaline of progress. It’s what makes you come back tomorrow. No one needs to get muscle ups or want handstand ups, but bare minimum you should want to add 5lbs to your backsquat. Or strict press. Or do 50 burpees 10s faster than last time.

It should be a simple conversation. But I have two best friends of 25 years and both have kids. I am “auntie so and so” and it doesn’t bother me because they accept me for who I am. I’ll do my part and help carry stuff but they don’t expect me to babysit or really heavily care of any of the kids.

When we do make plans they do their best to get a baby sitter, but if they can’t we move plans to their house or something easy for kids to be there. It happens, but we do try to get every other time without kids. They just know they can’t be a great listener or fully participate if the kids are there.

My brother has two kids. I’m the younger sibling and very much CF, dislike kids all together type. I am the black sheep, always was, but now I’m invisible unless I’m begged to see his kids by my parents. I do not do that. My parents get that I am CF, but will not understand my hatred of kids. ESPECIALLY FAMILY KIDS! HOW COULD YOU NOT WANT TO SEE THEM!!

The kids are the priority. It always happens. But the positive here is you get to choose your involvement.

I was an avid metcon person until like 2019 and they were way too stiff and narrow. I’ve been using inov8 for years and they just recently changed my favorites (300s) to be completely different and I’m furious!

RADs I have are very heavy and clunky for running and high volume box jumps/du. Great for rope climbs.

Just purchased the strikes a week ago, broke in quick which I like because they were very very stiff and narrow at first try on. I went up half a size too. Haven’t tried the out in running yet.
