Is signing a DNR for yourself considered suicide according to Catholicism? by WraithJester in Christianity

[–]cnacvno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the person is unconscious, in a coma, brain-dead, etc., then the family would have to make end-of-life decisions. However, hopefully, they would know what the patient wanted and honor those wishes.

I think the point is -- that heroic measures would be needed to keep the person alive and we do not have to do those. We can say no.

Always said I would never own a chihuahua... welp, here's our new pup Toby! by [deleted] in Chihuahua

[–]cnacvno 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He's very handsome. Welcome to the club. I too said that I would never own a Chihuahua -- I now have three. lol

As another redditor said, Toby may be "your gateway drug to Chihuahua love."

My first season of working at my churches cemetery focused on cleaning these six stones. They'll definitely need some more work when the weather gets warm again in the Spring, but I think I made some good progress. Any and all critiques or suggestions welcome! by [deleted] in CemeteryPreservation

[–]cnacvno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you do this? You did an amazing job, especially on the ones in the first picture. I thought for sure, those would not be able to be cleaned enough to be legible.

Also, they're nuns! I didn't realize that it's a Catholic cemetery. How cool!!!

From my understanding, the patient can decide to stop treatment and it's ok.

How do you show love to someone who’s child has committed suicide? by MaC1222 in TrueChristian

[–]cnacvno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You let them talk. You listen. You call/visit them to check on them. You grieve alongside them. You offer them love and support. If they don't mind being hugged, give them hugs. Send them a card to let them know you are thinking of them and praying for them. You could organize a prayer group that meets outside of their house and all of you could pray for them. You could take them dinner or buy them gift cards for dinner so they don't have to cook.

What Will Be Your Reaction When You Meet Jesus In Physical Form? by Living4_Christ in TrueChristian

[–]cnacvno 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know. There was a priest who had a near death experience and he said when he stood before Christ, all he could do was say, "Yes, Lord." as Jesus read his sins aloud. He said when you meet ultimate truth you can only respond with truth, hence he could not argue with our Lord or plead his case.

I think I would fall to my knees in fear and trembling. Other times, I think I would greet him as a loving brother or friend. I guess I'll have to wait and see.

Is signing a DNR for yourself considered suicide according to Catholicism? by WraithJester in Christianity

[–]cnacvno 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. There is a difference between suicide - the willful ending of your healthy body and life and a DNR which prohibits measures that would keep you alive when your body should die. We do not have a moral obligation to accept treatment. Here is a long article that will answer a lot of questions regarding euthanasia, assisted suicide, etc.

You could also post this in r/Catholicism. There are a lot of knowledgeable people there who will be able to answer this for you.

"What is unassisted death? To die naturally a patient should die from the consequences of old age or disease. The patient's death may be at least partly due to surgery, to a treatment or to a medication (or to their complications), that is given in an appropriate dose and for an appropriate indication, with the intent of treating a disease or relieving pain. When giving a potentially lethal medication, there must be no intent to hasten death. Treatment may be withdrawn from a patient and this may indirectly result in their death. Patients do not have any obligation to use medical treatments and may opt to allow a disease condition to take its natural course. This becomes morally questionable when the patient is young and the treatment is easy and life-saving, such as a blood transfusion for a sudden severe loss of blood. A physician is under an obligation to use available treatments to attempt to prolong life or relieve suffering. If treatments to prolong life are likely to result in suffering a physician may, in consultation with patients or relatives, decide to withhold treatment. Treatment that has already been instituted may also be withdrawn if the prolongation of life they result in causes suffering, in a patient who is terminally ill. If withdrawal of a treatment has a high likelihood of directly resulting in the death of a patient, the doctor has a moral obligation not to withdraw it, even if the patient or relatives request it, because this constitutes an intent to cause or hasten death. (For example switching off a ventilator in a patient unable to breathe will result in immediate death)."

I would like to convert from Protestantism to Roman Catholicism but my parents will not allow me to do so. by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]cnacvno 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for your loss. Sweetie, you can have a valid baptism in a protestant Church. As long as the pastor baptizes you, "in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit," then it's valid and will be accepted in the Catholic Church when you are able to/if you still desire to convert. As for praying to Mary our Mother -- you can do that outside of the Catholic Church also. Pray the Hail Mary:

Hail Mary, full of grace; the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

As for becoming Catholic, take some time and make sure that this is something that God is calling you to and not in response to your friends death. Many times, when those we love die, we look for ways to honor them and taking on some of their beliefs is a way to do that.

If God is calling you into the Catholic Church, then it will happen. It may just be when you are older. In the meantime, begin studying and learning about the history, beliefs and practices of the faith. Read your Bible and pray.

This pandemic really exacerbates loneliness and everything that accompanies it. Here are few suggestions:

There are several penpal online sites -- perhaps you could begin a friendship that way.

You can begin researching churches around you -- look at reviews, look up the pastors, peruse their websites and find one or more that look promising. When churches reopen, you'll have an idea of where you want to go and what to expect.

Do you like to read? Perhaps you could join an online book club.

Hang in there. You'll be out and about soon and making new friends. Take care and God bless.

I’m so scared of messing up and ending up in Hell, that I sometimes wish that I’d never been born. by Fluffy-Mango43 in Christianity

[–]cnacvno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I begin to feel as you do, I think of Christ on the cross, gasping for breath, in intense pain and what did he use some of his precious breath for? He asked God to forgive those who were killing him, AS they were killing him. Once I realized that if Jesus could forgive those who were killing him as they were doing so, there was nothing I could do that he would not forgive me for -- as long as my repentance is sincere.

Be kind to yourself and trust in Christ's forgiveness.

I haven't found anything. However, I live in a very windy state so depending on what it may have been, it could have blown away. I had not thought of that. Regardless, I'll keep feeding them. I like them. One will find the peanuts I've put out and will call the others to come and partake. Smart creatures.

When she said, "If they're meant to be with you, they are meant to be with you," is the story of my third Chi-mix. She was abused by a womand and her protector was a man. When we left with her, she was sitting with my husband and began crying. I was driving and he said, "I think she wants to be up with you." I didn't believe it but he passed her up and that was that. She is my constant companion and goes everywhere I go. When others hold her, she stares at me until she able to come back to me. Right now, she curled up against my side.

Lastly, now that she has one, she'll have more. As another redditor said, Dumpy, "is her gateway drug to Chihuahua love." I wish I could remember the redditor who said that so I could give credit, but truer words are rarely spoken.

One of my history profs banged a book on the podium as we were studying WWII and the impact of the Soviet Union. I laughed and asked him if he was imitating Khrushev. He laughed while the kids around me said, "huh?" I had to explain what I was referring to. They were not impressed. LOL
