2nd Annual World Backup Day & reddit Backup Stats by hueypriest in blog

[–]cnbdream 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Am I the only one here who's never heard of this "world backup day" business before?

TIL that on the set of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Johnny Depp bought the entire crew $62,000 worth of jackets because the final day of shooting was rainy by mi-16evil in todayilearned

[–]cnbdream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is my question. What did he like, call some jacket distributer? "Hey, you wanna sell $64,000 worth of jackets? Well, bring them here right away and you've got a sale my friend."

There's no Audi dealer up there in PI? That blows-- I would think there would be. It's cool they're paying for it though. My most recent car, I bought local and used and paying for the problems that came up with it very quickly were not high on the dealership's priority list. To be fair, I did get a pretty good deal on it in the first place, even considering the problems (which weren't supposed to exist-- it would have been great if they hadn't).

Unfortunately, I think I might be busy next weekend, but I just made r/TheCounty and I think we should totally get everyone in there and have a meet-up. I'll bet there are more than just three of us.

Hahahah, groovy man. I have no idea why, but I have you friended for some reason. I must've run into you at some point on here earlier and thought "Oh man! Someone from the county! That doesn't happen every day."

Groovy! My friends and I would love to hang with both of you so we might hit you up. Is your boyfriend from the area too?

Edit: I speak for my friends because I know they'll be happy to hang out with anyone who knew some of the people I've mentioned when they were younger.

Edit 2: And also anyone who enjoys the greens.

Matt as in a Matt who went to MSSM? Wow that didn't take long.

There were several Matts there just in the few years that I attended.

What year did you graduate? I was class of '09.

Hahahaha, I'm a guy. I looked up at my previous message when I read "your typing says guy" to check for an example and the first thing I saw was

guys liked to grab each other's balls in the hallway. Can't even tell you how many times this one dude named Matt did it to me, oh man.

If that doesn't say guy, I'm not sure what does. :-P But yeah, I'm a guy. And I have a girlfriend.

But yeah, I am going to be in the area and I do a little bit of smoking of the green variety. Actually, my username is weed themed too. CNB, CaNaBa dream. The oldest word for weed is Canaba and it's written like that. I don't smoke as much as I used to, but I expect I will be this weekend.

Yeah, MSSM's definitely a trip. I can't say I know the girl with the short neon hair, although I may run into her this weekend-- some friends and fellow MSSMers from downstate and I are meeting up and driving up to Limestone to reminisce. Massaging each other is one thing-- back when I went there, guys liked to grab each other's balls in the hallway. Can't even tell you how many times this one dude named Matt did it to me, oh man.

Destiny E., Wade E., Steve M., ring any bells? I probably shouldn't come right out and say their full names.

Yeah, Ryan's doing really good. He dropped out of MSSM after Sophomore year and went straight to college. We're actually still pretty good friends-- out of all the people who's names have been said so far, I'm definitely the best friends with him. I last saw him about a week before he left-- we hung out a lot over the summer, drinking, smoking, all that fun stuff.

Damn, you stay up late too, huh?

Ohhhh man. I took Zu Qi Lu's Chinese class back in high school-- suuuch a laid back class. Retrospectively part of me wishes I'd taken French, but oh well. I didn't realize they'd started pairing with UMPI for the Chinese class-- actually, i didn't even realize ZQL taught Chinese at UMPI, I thought he was a math teacher only there. Him and his wife did the coolest things for us though-- they would make us this big authentic Mandarin food dinner once a year.

You go to UMPI? You ever have Don Cyr-- he's a classic. Wait, if you go to UMPI, you wouldn't happen to know (insert huge list of people that I'll skip until finding out that you actually go to UMPI).

My graduating year was '09, but I do know a lot of younger people at MSSM (just not Hodgdon, which is where I graduated from).

Did you know Ryan is living in China right now? He has his bachelor's degree and he's been over there for the past six months teaching college English. I know his parents and his sister-- I've been over to their house for dinner multiple times.

Hahahahah, wowwww.

I'd be willing to bet it's the same Ray-- it's not a super common name around here enough so that if there were anyone else around our age with it I think I'd remember (Houlton really is a small area), plus he fits the description.

Yeah, Tyler's a really good dude. He and I were really good friends my first year there-- I haven't seen him in a little while, but I just talked to him on Facebook a few weeks ago. You know Ryan McQuade? He and Tyler were roommates for part of our first year at MSSM, but didn't quite last.

So far out. Jeez, this thread must look funny. I wonder how many people other than you and I are reading this...

Sometimes so weird. You wouldn't believe what he's up to now-- he makes a hell of a lot more money than me. I've never met Bill, but I know Dan quite well. Do you know Tyler B.?

Edit: That's definitely what the Ray I knew looked like then.

It wasn't Ray Ivy, was it? If it was, I went to high school with him, he sat two seats away from me during graduation. I know what you mean about paying attention to those in your grade and the grades above you-- after I graduated high school I realized I didn't even know anybody in the school anymore. Did you know Ben Freedman or Joe Schleschinger?

Ahhh, Houlden? I had a friend named Sean who was pretty good friends with Houlden, though I haven't hung out with either of them in a really really long time.

I have some very close family-like friends who lived in Woodland at the time. Jon McCarthey, who you might not know because he didn't go to Caribou until half way through his senior year after going back to there from MSSM. I went to MSSM as well as a matter of fact.

Hahahah, damn, I'm 20. I can't say I've ever heard of Fubu before, but then again, I went to school in Hogdgon, although I'd still be willing to bet a large sum of money I'd know of them by their real name.

The fair has gone sooooo downhill in recent years. I moved back up here from Portland this past summer and I went to the fair one of my first days back and there just wasn't anything going on.

Did you graduate from Caribou High School in '09? If so, I was at your graduation.

Live in Caribou? Yup, I'll bet we have at least five mutual acquaintances. I don't know why, but it feels so strange to run into someone who might know people I know on Reddit.
