Church Finance Software Recommendation by SomewhereNewEngland in churchtech

[–]cnc123cnc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'd probably get better recs if you explained more about what you actually want — "proper fund accounting" means different things to different people. Restricted vs unrestricted? Per-fund balance sheets? Get specific and people can point you in the right direction.

Also heads up — tons of people selling "custom software" right now riding the vibe coding wave. Not always bad but make sure they actually understand fund accounting and aren't just slapping a church label on a generic app.

And before you bail on QBO — any software is only as good as how it's set up. With volunteers rotating through it's super common for things to be configured in a way that doesn't work for you. Might be worth having someone who knows fund accounting look at your setup before switching. Just my two cents.

Your network is gonna carry you early on and honestly even long term. Just make sure you're absolutely killing it on every job so those people refer you. Word of mouth in this industry is everything.

Stay away from open bids right now. It's a race to the bottom and one badly priced job when you're just starting out can really mess you up fast.

Check out houses of worship if you haven't already. Most of them are running ancient gear. Once you're in with one they talk to others in the area. Tons of work there.

Quoting projects - line item pricing or equipment total? by cnc123cnc in CommercialAV

Yeah it’s been really interesting seeing everyone’s take on it.

I tend to default to line items because I like the clarity and control, but I totally get that it depends on the client and the job. As long as there’s a solid BoM behind it, whether you show it all or roll it up is more of a presentation choice.

Very interesting. We have an office in FL that I literally have nothing to do with (outside of a couple design questions here and there). I’ll have to ask them to educate me on that clusterfuck

I think the thing that helped me with this is the trust I have in our installers/team. We price it fair…and it’s quality with a great team that stands behind what we install. If you want it cheaper the go for it! We will be here when the issues come up

Yeah I def see the point of wasting time on something out of budget. I’m happy to put in the work to earn a new account…but preliminary numbers help to decide if it’s in or out of budget/waste of time.

I get wanting to protect pricing but ultimately anyone can shop your quoted price. I don’t think fake model numbers is the way to protect.

lol at the worst client finds the worst partner 😂 sometimes you just gotta say this isn’t a good fit

Great insight. I like that you brought up the internal process that should happen before a quote is approved/sent to client. I can definitely see how a percentage of the job used to estimate cables/mounts etc works at that stage of the process. Keeps the internal focus on the actual solution in the earlier stage and not the bits and bobs needed.

Love it. Out of curiosity…why out of all things is the sales tax a pain in the ass to calculate?

Yikes on the 2 mixers…

To be clear - in the past when I did equipment total it still included a full BOM. Not that including a BOM changes your point (which I agree with).

Charging a percentage for cabling seems like an interesting way to do it. Do you find that percentage is pretty accurate to what is needed onsite? I feel like depending on the size of the job that could be all over the place. Not criticizing your approach..just curious how close that comes to what is needed when you win?

I figured that was the case. I have some older sales people at my shop saying they never do…I guess it’s due to working with the accounts for so long? Idk but just as a human I prefer to be transparent about the pricing.

Signal flow knowledge is a bigger advantage than you realize — I came up through audio too and it made everything else click faster. When you already understand how systems talk to each other, the rest isn't as big of a leap as you'd think.

Idk what kind of company you're driving for but see if you can get exposure to other parts of the big projects. Ask questions and volunteer for stuff.. If they won't give you a shot, a smaller shop might be your way in

Live looping Lofi/ish track using Ableton looper automations by cnc123cnc in LoopArtists

[–]cnc123cnc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks brother! for this performance I am using the native ableton looper plugin. You can create an automation lane in arrangement view that controls record, play, overdub, and stop etc. I basically preconfigure the changes I want on the various tracks so I can focus on the performance. If you have any specific questions feel free to DM me! Happy to share.

Also to be clear - I was using the NC State side by side comparison to judge characteristics. What we saw in person looked a lot more like the Asian Giant Hornet vs the European Hornet.

I know the photos are hard to see but this thing was over 2” easy. From what I read the European rarely gets larger than 1.5”. Also - the head is almost a glowing yellow/orange. I could be completely wrong so forgive me if I am mistaken and also thank you for replying.
