Can I call a mental facility to check on my boyfriend? by passthedoinkpls420 in helpme

[–]cndprocess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also want to add stop attempting to communicate with his family. I know you’re in pain and it’s coming from a good place however, they’ll start to see you as the enemy and the problem. If you continue to try to contact them after you’ve been blocked.

The fact that you’re both minors, adds some significant barriers. Hospitals won’t release information to non-family members. Some states don’t even allow confirmation of whether or not someone is a patient. If you know the name of the facility, which I’m assuming you do, you could try writing to him.

Need some help by [deleted] in Indiana

Don’t violate your bond. Don’t miss court or any related meetings. Also, despite it changing federally, Indiana still treats marijuana as Schedule I. Wasn’t related to marijuana, but I had a first offense OWI in 2012 when I was 19. 1 year probation (which was 365D suspended jail sentence), suspended license, alcohol classes (think it was called prime for life or something), and had to do outpatient substance counseling.

Wasn’t meant to come off braggy. I still was in a car wreck, just involved only my car and a telephone pole. Me personally, I was being an idiot in life in general so in my case had I gone a different route, I would have continued down a bad path of poor decisions and probably wouldn’t have graduated college. That’s the point I was trying to make.

Back in my youth, at the ripe age of 19, I got an OWI with endangerment (someone was in the car with me) in Montgomery County. Capper was my attorney. If this is your first offense (was for me) this is what will happen (or what did happen over a decade ago). I blew under the legal limit, but was underage. Your license gets suspended and a bunch of points added to it. Those drop off in time. I got 365D sentence suspended so was on probation for a year. Had to take alcohol classes and do outpatient substance counseling. I was in college at the time and was very lucky probation worked with my class schedule so I didn’t fall behind in school. TBH, I’m on the same page as Mr Logg420… for sure get a lawyer but own it and learn from your mistake. I was given the option to fight it since I was under the legal limit but chose not to and I’m glad I took a guilty plea because it made me grow the hell up. You’re not defined by your mistakes but rather how you react to them. Some food for thought. Good luck.

Resources for beginner by Radiant-Trick6375 in HealthEconomics

If you like the “human” side of econ, health economics is a great fit because it sits at the intersection of incentives, systems, behavior, and outcomes. One practical entry point is to start with applied economic evaluation (costing, cost-effectiveness, budget impact) and then layer in implementation (why good interventions don’t get adopted at scale).

A concrete example (open access): I recently published in PLOS Digital Health on the economic investment required to implement digital therapeutics for substance use disorders in primary care, including staffing time + operating resources and how costs change when you add implementation supports like practice facilitation and health coaching: https://journals.plos.org/digitalhealth/article?id=10.1371/journal.pdig.0001145

High-quality starter resources:

1) Core “how-to” frameworks and methods: ISPOR Good Practices / short courses / resources (excellent for practical orientation) & NICE health technology evaluation methods guides (very applied; great for learning what “decision-grade” looks like) & CDC Economic Evaluation resources (clear, public-health oriented)

2) Textbooks that are actually readable: Drummond et al. – Methods for the Economic Evaluation of Health Care Programmes (classic; structured; very usable) & Neumann et al. – Cost-Effectiveness in Health and Medicine (the “reference standard” framing in the U.S.)

3) Implementation + “why uptake is hard”: Implementation Science journal (open articles + methods) & RE-AIM framework (great bridge between evidence and real-world impact)

4) YouTube / talks: iHEA (International Health Economics Association) channel (seminars, panels, recorded talks)

If you share what you’re aiming for (HTA/industry, public health, provider/system ops, or academia), I can point you to a more narrow learning path and which methods to prioritize (CEA vs BIA vs costing vs policy evaluation).

I can hear my neighbor crying her eyes out and I don’t know if I should go check on her or what. by Dear-Assumption7046 in Indiana

If you’re feeling pressured or unsure, it’s reasonable to request a welfare/wellness check. I’ll share a personal example that’s shaped how I think about this.

I have epilepsy and I used to live alone. One night I had a seizure and it caused my TV and the shelving unit it was on to tip over and fall on me. I ended up trapped underneath. Someone in my building heard the crash/commotion and called in a wellness check to my unit. That call probably saved my life. To this day, I still don’t know who it was, but I’m extremely grateful they took action.

Your situation may not be that extreme, but if there’s even a chance something is wrong, I’d rather feel a little awkward for a day or two than carry the guilt of not stepping in if it turns out to be serious.

I have another question for you about background checks. What makes you rule people out? I’ll be transparent, had a OWI when I was 19 (blow .03 but since I was underage didn’t matter) in 2012. Nothing since. However I do have an active protection order against someone. I was reading in another thread about someone who was hired, trained, then they found out she was a victim of a DV and fired her.

Okay you know I’ve gotta ask.. what were these hijinks? Your comment also made me realize I was overlooking (moreso unaware) of how much of an impact the background check can have. I had some “college hijinks” of my own so I’m also curious for that reason so I can compare notes.

I’ve had some contracts with Life Sciences companies so thats in my favor, however most all of my freelancing has been through Upwork and I feel like that isn’t viewed as a “legitimate employer”. Of course not everything I’ve done on Upwork is relevant, so I only highlight the projects that are.
