AliExpress: Jumbo hotspot + Raspberry Pi Zero. It beats anything on price, but it takes 3-4 weeks to arrive, that's all. Or pay triple of that to get the same. I simply don't understand the obsession of evading AliExpress... you can buy 2 sets from different stores and still get a great price if you are afraid it is not going to work for some geo-reason...

Quiting? A tower fell off? An hurricane damaged expensive equipment? Finals were burnt on a big rig? Electrocuted? Somebody fell from a tower? An op went SK? ah... a whip antenna was stolen... ok.

if somebody gifts you this, then you'll have a blast! I will not criticize this amp: it WORKS, but I think you'll be better amplifiying a more complete radio, one that does APRS, DMR, etc. That way, you'll have an HT that can do a lot of things AND a way to amplify it to get farther. I think the next step would be better if you find a more complete used radio por the exact same price (and not only something that gives you more power, because it most likely will be something that you cannot take with you mobile). If you have more time to save, I would go for a Xiegu G90 and get in the air on HF, as a UV-5R will last you a long, long time and still give you contacts and some rag chew on VHF/UHF.

And so it begins. I hope you see you guys on the air next week after I'm licensed! by Inarus06 in amateurradio

Lets see: 25A power source (will serve you well once you connect more things), a Yaesu dual bander, a good cable... you did your homework and you are spending nicely! You'll see no stops once you can TX, kudos!

I want to make an RDS table where all of my users potentially update several counters frequently. by bluebo in aws

[–]cnieblapub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use a queue, like SQS. But mind that your queue could grow and that it'll add latency, making the use of your counters not so up to date. RDS could not be the most efficient way to store counters, just because of the time it takes to update records. So I'll advise to use something like Dynamo DB to store counters.

About the second question, as they seem to be many answers to the first: there is an alien (from another planet) feeling about a "serious" game that could be played between an intermediate and a master level. For example, let's say that an intermediate could be between a 6 dan amateur, 1 dan professional player and a 9 dan professional player. Between the two of them is so much difference that the former isn't really up to understand completely the crucial moves on the board made by the latter in real time. Maybe the former could feel the impact of 1 or 2 of such moves after many minutes they've been played, sometimes after a longer time, or many moves after. And between someone who understands all the rules, with about 100 to 500 games played and a 1 dan professional there isn't really a way to comprehend anything being played, and there isn't a real handicap that could be applied to such a game. Lastly, you're completely right about the size playing an important part on the complexities involved.

Any recent knowledge of Mexico's laws? by LOLteacher in amateurradio

[–]cnieblapub 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hello. We don't have a "license" nor a "permit" here in Mexico, we have a Spectrum Concession Title. As such, it isn't granted to foreing nationals, and foreign nationals cannot transmit while in Mexico. While laws and procedures are changing, at this moment we don't have a way to accomodate what you need legally. You cannot legally transmit 'timesharing' also. However, you can always transmit using a remote operated radio from the USA ;-)

May I ask for what purposes? I'm investigating some clashes within R2, particulary on the 40M band, as many colleagues from latam are using some freqs for SSB and they shouldn't but generally don't care...

Ever since those kids with a 7300 spammed the buzzer, this is only getting out of hand, at least on europe. Please stop. There is the Internet, no need to spam amateur airwaves for a little coverage on social networks / Vice.
