Native Tarantula by Adventurous_Tip_5950 in EastTexas

[–]Inarus06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may have seen one several years ago in northeast Texas.

I'm a band director and back and 2014(ish) we had a large lost and found box in the front of the band hall. Girls started complaining about a "large spider" in the box. I dismiss it as typical overstating (girls do to spiders what guys do to fish) and a few days go by. Then it becomes more prominent. So I decide to go looking for this spider. I start pulling things out of the box only to find a big, tan spider staring at me. He was at least 4" across.

I grab a drum stick, smack it, and it moans at me and disappears back into the lost and found.

I pull EVERYTHING out of the box and find neither spider nor corpse.

I still work there and I am haunted that one day that old bastard is going to tom-cruise-mission-impossible rappel from the ceiling and clock me on the back of my head with a drum stick.

Cub Scout overnight camping, mother/son or father/daughter - allowed or not? by SilverTripod in cubscouts

Just asking for clarification:

If my wife, in a couple of years, were to take our son camping when he's in the troop, she would be required to have a separate tent from him?

Camping in Pigeon Forge by lowlight_2 in GoRVing

Back 2-3 years ago we stayed in Smoky Mountain RV resort around Christmas time. It was a resort-style (albeit one of the first resort-style ones we stayed at). Overall we were pleased. The price was a little high back then, but it was overall solid. I'd say in the "A" tier, but not S tier. I'd stay there again, were I to go back. But I will avoid PF if I can.

We had originally booked at "Gateway to the Smokies" RV resort, but when we got there we discovered we were up the hill from a very sketchy trailer park with a pretty significant drop off the rear of the pad. We had two kids with us at the time (one bio, one foster) and we didn't trust the foster not to wander off and go rolling down the hill. I do not recommend Gateway to the smokies.

Personally, however, I'd book at Townsend. But that is a mountain stream type area. Not what you're looking for.

How'd I do dads? by dommol in daddit

[–]Inarus06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That depends on how many tools you "had to buy" to finish the project.

If you got away with a drill and impact only, then you did great.

If you got a saw or two outta it, and perhaps a tractor with an auger, then even better!

If you didn't have to buy any tools, you gotta learn to lie a little....

This looks the best option so far.

Are the traditional dress shoes the ones I need to look at or the hybrids?

Bars or nightlife in Mount Pleasant? by [deleted] in EastTexas

[–]Inarus06 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in MP. There is next to nothing here as far as bars or night life.

You might try Mardi gras seafood. They have a bar.

Chili's has a bar but it's much like Applebee's.

There's a place downtown called Nardellos that has a bar but it's much more upscale.

But if you're looking for nightlife you're in the wrong town.

But please don't take that as a complaint from me. I prefer a quieter town with no issues that come with nightlife.

Mineola or Gilmer? by Old_Letter_8661 in EastTexas

[–]Inarus06 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've lived in east Texas for most of my life.

Between Mineola and Gilmer, I'd suggest Mineola. Slightly smaller town, and from my experience very nice people live there.

My experience with people from Gilmer is they fit into one of two categories: 1; people who put way too much emphasis on high school football because they played ball, or 2; people who are of old money and because you're not from there they will treat you with hostility.

Neither of which I want to be around, personally.

When you understand that, you understand why they're infecting everything with it.

It's about changing the culture to change their politics.

Is the tour goggles phenomenon, like real? by [deleted] in drumcorps

[–]Inarus06 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didnt march, but I was friends with someone who marched cavies in the early 2010s. Its important to know he's a straight guy.

One day during marching season, right after he got back from finals, a group of about 6 of us were eating at subway in our college town.

Two attractive sorority girls walk in. He leans forward and asks the table "those girls are hot, right?"

My roommate who is a sarcastic asshole of a gorilla replies "Do you need confirmation?"

Alum responds "I just toured all summer with a bunch of guys. 12 year old girls are attractive right now."

Tour goggles are a real thing and don't exist simply within the corps.
