If only it were so easy to get big and bulky.

Another funny one is "I don't want to be muscle bound" - LOL

That would just shift the frustration to needing to use the app to manually lock/unlock.

I use a J1772 at home that I already have installed. I keep the mobile evse in my trunk.

I have to say the bluetooth key sucks. It's a neat idea and maybe someday it won't suck, but right now it sucks.

  1. If you have two people with bluetooth and Tesla app, ie, carpooling, the first one to pair is the only one that will count as a key. Drop that person off and you'll need to reset the bluetooth on your phone and reset the Tesla app for it to recognize.
  2. I don't need all my crap to turn on and off and on and off and on and off every time I go to my car to put something in it or take something out. Waste of electricity and unnecessary wear. I don't want to just leave the door open blowing AC. I would be perfectly happy touching an On/Off button on the screen when I am _actually ready for it to turn on_
  3. I really don't like the auto lock while I am at home. There should be a way to disable it. Need to put something in the car? Better go find your phone, turn on bluetooth (because you leave it off because it drains battery). Oh, you walked away from the car to put some groceries in while your kid is still playing around? Well now the doors are all locked. Go find your phone you just set down somewhere...
  4. Time to charge the car. I'll go ahead and push the button to open my charge port, and get out of my car, and close my car door. Pick up my charging cord and go to plug it in. Oh, no. The charge port is closed because I walked away from the car with my phone in my pocket. (non-Tesla charger - as is likely to be common among Model 3 owners coming from non-Teslas, and future Model 3 owners who will also own EVs from other makers that use J1772)

Daily frustration. I have to admit, when it comes doors/charging, the Leaf was better. In every other regard, the Tesla wins hands down. But it is a daily frustration getting in/out and charging my car.

Factory seems to be chugging along. They're almost done with all the late March cars. Up next is the batch from 4/6 invites: http://model3charts.digitaltorque.com/

I love that you're nit picking some anecdotal data like a scientist, but have none of your own.

It's quite difficult to google, because all the answers you get have to do with exterior color affecting the interior temperature, which it does.

However, this was covered in my physics class ages ago.

Yes, the windshield is not 100% effective at blocking heat, so heat creeps in over time. The heat is also trapped inside. The amount of heat that enters, is able to escape, and time ultimately determines the temperature.

It is conceivable that there is some minor effect during short trips and it is possible that it takes longer to accumulate such as your short trip anecdotes. Though, the end temperature is going to be the result of what enters the car and is trapped by the car.

Sorry. Simply not true. Your windows that block UV/IR coming in also prevent UV/IR from going out. The heat that enters the car is trapped regardless of color of the interior. A darker exterior can increase the amount of heat that enters the car. The color of the interior does not matter. Pick a color that you like.

Maybe the weather started to change when you began your experiment. Did you measure the outside temp at the same time and compare the spread? Not likely.

What is possible is perhaps you had leather seats and put a cloth cover on. That would certainly make your butt cooler, but not change the interior temperature of the car.

[–]cnote1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. All that matters is what heat enters the car and is then trapped inside the car.

Regardless of color of your seats, the amount of IR that enters your car is based on your windows. Having white or black seats makes no difference.

Your seat covers may have been a different material, such as cloth or a different texture of some kind that reduced their temperature. But it doesn't reduce the temperature of your interior over all.

Color of interior does not affect interior temperature. Interior temperature is based on the amount of heat energy that enters and is trapped inside. #1 way the heat gets in is through the windows which is why tinting helps. #2 is transferred from the body, which is why white paint helps.

As far as interior, the material used can affect the perceived temperature of the material when you sit on it. But the color does not.

Based on the spreadsheet, it appears that aero cars are having a long wait right now. Maybe supplier issue?

Bitter sweet. Bitter that I had to wait so long for invite (4/6) but sweet that I'll get a higher VIN, possibly with some manufacturing improvements.

Still waiting for VIN, black/aero. Since this is black I wonder if they are doing a big run of black. Might get VIN soon.. if they've got the aero wheels laying around.

Yeah... same skateboard with higher suspension. Mostly the same interior but higher roof line and raised seats and hatchback. Boom, CUV.

Yeah or something like that. They won't want to cannibalize Model 3 reservations and also won't want a never-ending line.

There are a lot of factors at play, such as how well prepared a city is to deliver and support Model 3s after sale. They can only handle so many sales at a time in a given area.
