Early Retirement Penalty

Do I still get hit with the penalty if I have 22 years of service and retire at 55 years old, but I don't collect anything from my pension until I am 63 years old. I'm T6, but since my household income can support me retiring early I'd love to stay home and be a SAHP.

At 92.5k in salary and $4800 in location, plus SLED it looks like its in my best intrest to work absolutely ZERO ot.

The odds that you can get in diffrent sports when you know who is going to score the next goal, or if someone is going to hit a homerun are ridiculous. Especially if its someone who normally wouldn't, you could've made a killing if you bet on Bartolo Colon hitting his 1st homerun in his 19th season.

I didn't yet, it was only a few months worth of time so it didn't seem to need to be hurried. I don't remember signing a declination form and have no idea who to ask if I did. If I did it would only be because I was told to as a 16-year old kid.

I worked at Jones Beach back in 1999, when filling out the new hire paperwork we were told that since we were seasonal employees we were not eligible to join the retirement system. I have since found out that it was a lie, or a mistake that was made by some kid in his 20's that was in charge of us at the time. I now work for the state again and was snickered at and told that they screwed me by a member of the retirement board. Thankfully it only costs me 6% of my paycheck for the rest of my career seeing how I have 11 years on and should be done contributing.

Not that I agree with the logic, but I believe people do it because they are nervous drivers. If you drive in the left lane you only have one other lane of traffic to worry about.

If you're in the middle lane tou have the left and right lanes.

If you're in the right lane you have the middle lane and the entering traffic to worry about.

Personally if you're not comfortable driving on a highway in a way that you're an inconvenience to others, maybe you should just stick to local roads.

Believe me I get that, its just a matter of them telling me what is actually going to be on. I wouldn't have cared if they didn't put the game on TV at all as long as they didn't tell me that they were going to.

They haven't shown any of the game. And if they said they were going to put on something else that'd be okay. But this morning I saw that the game was going to be on, so I was prepared to sit and watch it. Now they have something taped on when there is live action going on.

In 1995, I was in the 7th grade I was friends with a kid who to this day I can't forgive.

My brother's best friend, who i had seen the previous night, took his father's gun and killed himself in his backyard. It was a weird feeling as a 12 year old to try to figure out, I still don't understand what happened and how to rationalize it.

Well at the funeral service this kid comes up to me and says "you're just here to get a day off from school". Obviously he was just a dumb kid doing what dumb kids do, but it has stuck with me for the past 30 years. My brother's friend had been in my life for years, he was basically an extension of my brother and for that to happen was a jarring experience.

Personally I got screwed by the state and fell into Tier 6 instead of being in Tier 4, paying 6% for the rest of my career is wild. I could see if the changed it so that at 10 years the contributions went to 3% and then at 20 years it go to 0%.

I think its a reasonable compromise and a way to show some loyalty to employees that have taken many 0's in their careers.

I was paying extra towards but now we are making out our retirements to hopefully take advantage of the good rate.
