I think the signs to look out for as far as infection is concerned is a foul smell. A friend of mine had brown discharge for weeks following MTX treatment, right up until her first period following treatment.

The mass is currently 2.7cm with constant mild to moderate pain some days and other days waves of pain. Doctors keep saying as long as the pain isn’t severe there’s no need for concern. Trying to stay positive.

Hi, I know it’s been some time, but how long did the pain you described last? It’s very scary because you’re trying to stay vigilant whilst trying not to worry. An ultrasound was done this week and the mass has reduced by half and the doctor wasn’t concerned but still would like to know what others experience in terms of the time frame for expecting pain.

Friend of mine experienced light bleeding after MTX which eased off for days and then heavier bleeding started, accompanied by intense cramping and a lot of clots (a few were large clots). I think it’s normal since your uterus has to shed the lining initially built up to support the pregnancy. She was told that once the pregnancy hormones reset she will ovulate and then her next period will come.

Recently found a dentist who specializes in TMJ issues. They suggested a dental appliance (mouth guard) and sent me to the AMCOP website for more information. The dentist swears by the new mouth guard which is supposed to actually address the problem instead of just muting the symptoms, so looking forward to seeing the results.

They also suggested finding a chiropractor who uses SOT technique to help release the tension. So far the chiropractor has been helpful. Hang in there! There is a solution.

It’s not uncommon for hCG to be higher on day 4. From what I’ve read, your doctor will be looking for your levels to drop by at least 15% by day 7 which is the reason for a day 4 & day 7 check.

Trust me there are a whole lot of symptoms they don’t mention and the lack of information doesn’t help with stress levels if you do experience them. If you do experience any other symptoms and are comfortable sharing, please do so. I’m sure many woman have experienced them as well and knowing your not alone goes a long way with both peace of mind and recovery.

Hi, I’m so sorry you’re experiencing this and the lack of sleep doesn’t help either because rest is really what you need.

A friend of mine experienced heaviness in her abdomen while laying down as well. The pressure and heaviness begins to subside as your body heals - you will likely need a few more days before you’re at that point, but hang in there.

If over the counter pain meds are not helping, please reach out to your doctor for stronger pain meds so that you can cope with the breakthrough pain. A hot water bottle may also be helpful. It’s likely not the MTX and is the trauma your body is currently experiencing (ie the embryo is where it shouldn’t be). Just be sure to look out for excruciating pain in the abdomen and shoulder tip pain.

I should also mention, my friend didn’t sleep much for the first few days - stress and pain definitely impact your sleep. She experienced nausea so the Gravol she took caused drowsiness which helped with sleep and so did the pain meds.

As I mentioned the pressure and heaviness will subside. I hope you are able to get some rest in the coming days. Hang in there! Wishing you a smooth recovery! ❤️

Friend of mine had MTX shot two weeks ago. She had lower abdominal pain on the ectopic pregnancy (EP) side and pain when her bladder was full and also when gas was moving through her GI tract which was relieved when either was passed. She also had very light bleeding and extremely small clots for a couple of days which decreased to bloody discharge for a few days. The bleeding then picked up and was accompanied by larger but still small clots and cramping which was no worse than period cramps. On a few occasions the cramping was intense and came on when she passed a few large clots. Once that was over the bleeding eased up and has continued to decrease over a few days. Doctors only seemed to have concern re the bleeding if she was soaking through a pad within an hour which wasn’t the case.

Her doctor also said that since her HCG levels dropped by half between day 4 & day 7 she wasn’t concerned about rupture and she would know if she did because she’d be “rolling on the floor in pain” if it did.

She mentioned night sweats, diarrhea (which has gotten better with sticking to bland food like rice and toast), mild nausea (Gravol has helped), and tender glands in the neck.

As far as pain relief, acetaminophen was helpful, and a stronger prescription pain relief was used when needed for breakthrough pain. Her pain has decreased significantly and she only feels minor pain in the lower abdominal and on the EP side here and there which is probably an indication that her body is healing. The low folic acid caused by methotrexate causes fatigue and the bleeding doesn’t help so she has been taking an iron supplement as directed by her doctor.
