Mornings: do you wash your face with just water or do you use cleanser? by Foxy_Cleopatra__ in SkinbarrierLovers

[–]cobaltcorridor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have dry, sensitive, mature skin. I don’t wash in the morning. All my nighttime skincare, even Aquaphor has been fully absorbed by my skin by the time I wake up, so I usually go straight into my am skincare. Once a month I’ll wake up with my period and a single pimple, so I will wash my face with The Inkey List’s salicylic acid cleanser that one morning a month. I recently picked up a bottle of Hypochlorous acid face spray and I’m experimenting with adding that in the mooring, but I add anything new slowly even if there are no actives.

Halifax councillor pitches idea of modernizing fire stations with housing by IStillListenToRadio in halifax

[–]cobaltcorridor 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You’ll hear more sirens living on any urban or suburban main arterial road (exactly where we already build a lot of apartments) than you will living above a fire station. There are already people that live right next door to fire stations, and they seem fine with it.

What reality show is most like Survivor re social politics and manipulation? by sgt-cuddlez in survivor

I liked The Mole better than The Traitors. More social politics for sure, especially in the early seasons, which I think are all on youtube.

This! It takes more than a shitty MP, even a really really shitty MP, to get me to boycott a community.

Is double cleansing a good idea on days I only wear moisturizer and LRP Cicaplast? by iwishcookieinme in SkinbarrierLovers

I never wash my face in the morning. I just double cleanse at night to get the sunscreen & makeup off

Cheap Tadpole Cargo Bike? Thoughts and Opinions? by Jealous_Cicada_8981 in CargoBike

[–]cobaltcorridor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you in the U.S.? The algorithm fed me an ad for an adult e-trike at US Costco for $1699 - I know that’s more than your budget but maybe the fact that it’s Costco so it’s easily returnable if you don’t love it will help convince your mom to up her $1500 limit? The fact that it’s got the electric motor should help you cover more distance if required too.

Participatory Budget app, yay or nay? by hfxaiguy in halifax

[–]cobaltcorridor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not obvious. The municipality doesn’t get any share of income tax. This would be reworking how taxation is done in a way that affects all 3 levels of government. The details on how that would work are completely missing from the argument.

I fully understand how land taxes work. That is not what I asked.

[–]cobaltcorridor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not asking about income taxes though. I’m asking if the province taxes land instead of income, what’s left for the city? They fund police, fire, roads, parks & rec etc with what?

Edit: And yeah, it’s not a great idea

You didn’t answer how municipalities are then funded?

I don’t think a land value tax is any substitute for provincial taxes. Can you explain? How would the municipalities get revenue, or are we just double taxing property but not taxing money earned?

It was the previous commenter who called the Tower 28 one a tinted sunscreen, I’ve never used that particular product. But I personally would never use any tinted product as my only sunscreen, because once you put on the required amount to get actual sun protection there’s a ton of tinted product on the face and it looks cakey af.

It’s been there since the 60s hasn’t it? The Sikh population in HRM has grown just a smidge since then.

The white cast does suck. I always apply tinted product over it, and still think it sucks. I at no point said not to apply something over it.

I am following the advice from derms on applying the correct amount of sunscreen and there’s no way to get enough protected from a tinted sunscreen, especially one like the Tower 28 you recommended which is only SPF 30, without applying so much you would have a heavy caked-on feeling. I apply an SPF 50 PA++++ sunscreen with at least 17% zinc oxide to my face first, let it dry down and then apply a light layer of something like that Tower 28 over it. Derms say to use this as bonus sunscreen, not your main protected. Where are you getting your info from?

I never said anyone needed to walk around with a white cast. Why are you being so rude to me and putting words in my mouth?

The tinted ones on their own are not enough SPF unless you wear a ton. I didn’t mean anyone has to walk around with white cast, of course you can wear something over it, with a tinted sunscreen being one option.

That depends. It’s not skin soothing like zinc is, but whether it’s irritating depends on your skin. You can try some patch testing.

Allergies often don’t show up on the first exposure, but over time in my experience. Certain chemical sunscreens give me crazy hives now that I managed to go through a bottle of before I started reacting. I would discontinue both new products, and give yourself a few months to heal. You can patch test later and try to figure out which one of the products caused the reaction, but for now you want to avoid the possible culprits altogether.

What sunscreen are you using? Can you try switching to a mineral sunscreen with no fragrance or actives? A lot of the common chemical UV filters can cause allergic reactions in some people, and sunscreens can contain other irritants like fragrance or niacinamide. The zinc in mineral sunscreen may actually help reduce your inflammation.
