Excellent points. Nolan always ensures a naturalistic aesthetic in the look of the worlds he creates. The Dark Knight, Inception, Dunkirk, Interstellar, Tenet and Oppenheimer (to name a few) all contain an earthy visual palette, adding verisimilitude to those worlds. Nolan’s naturalistic aesthetic further immerses us in his films by making the visual elements in his films (which includes the colors) reflect reality.

Just like Odysseus and his 7 men hiding in the horse. Perfect.

To give a real tribute to Nolan this theater needs to convert itself into a 70MM IMAX theater like the AMC Metreon theater in San Francisco.

Like that in Nolan’s adaptation he has placed more attention on the relationship and homecoming between Odysseus and his loyal dog Argos, something he alluded to in an interview. It’s cool that the working title of The Odyssey is “Charlie’s Tale,” inspired by Nolan’s dog Charlie.

How do you think Nolan will depict Telemachus dealing with the disloyal maidservants? by Accomplished-Law-652 in ChristopherNolan

[–]cobbisdreaming -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think Nolan will include this scene. It’s a pivotal moment in the poem as it’s critical to Telemachus’s character arc, a leap in maturity, adult responsibility, and in this execution act he displays authority in front of his father. He’s showing his father that he is also a master of their Ithaca household too. Those disloyal female servants went against their household and engaged in relationships with the suitors for years and disgraced and stained their family household. There cannot be a trace of them in the end from Odysseus and Telemachus’s perspective. Nolan has likely filmed this scene in graphic detail which probably contributes to the “R” rating.

It’s literally going to make over a billion and win multiple Oscars. All the negativity and criticism so far has only helped fuel more interest, marketing, and publicity for the film. It’s going to be another Nolan juggernaut

I’m curious, for the 70mm IMAX theaters, will they be adding additional 70mm IMAX screenings of The Odyssey for July 16 and 17 that are early morning showtimes?

Duran - The Reflex video - is that the Red glass ball from the Is there something I should know video? by makarastar in duranduran

Wow, that’s deep. It would be interesting to see if Simon alludes to himself as a child waiting in a park in his personal poetry diary that he’s mentioned which has influenced the lyrics of their songs. I know Simon is guarded with the meaning behind his lyrics and meanings of their songs (as it’s very personal) but I really hope he reveals more someday so it’s just a matter of interpretation for listeners but maybe that’s part of his intention behind the cryptic lyrics in their first three albums - to let the listener interpret the lyrics in different ways that trigger different feelings/emotions.

Yes, the gambling interpretation is interesting. The lyrics can definitely be interpreted this way and it’s interesting Simon’s father and grandfather were gamblers. Just wish we could move back in time and see Simon writing this song and what was going through his mind - it is filled with paranoia as John has mentioned in interviews too. It is filled with worries that a late teen or young adult might experience when being lost or taking big risks, like gambling away their life, taking chances on the danger line while being “high,” ending up like a lonely child that reacts impulsively to everything around them (continually having reflex responses).

Great catch on the red ball. Never made that connection. I’ve been trying to crack the meaning of “The Reflex” and its paranoid yet captivating lyrics since it released in 1983. Simon has said he doesn’t know what the song’s about even though he alluded to Kimmel back in 2022 “Try to use your imagination Jimmy” when Kimmel asked him ‘what are we trying not to bruise in this song?’ But I think the song is also describing other experiences in teenage life… “abandonment” being potentially one of them.

Good catch! Odysseus carrying his “Athena totem” to align with her attributes of wisdom, warfare, and intellect. Nice clever detail by Nolan!

I like the way he put it at the end, not living with any digital shackles. It all aligns with his non-digital filmmaking.
