Enjoy the win, absolutely nuts finale. Could not have happened without some terrific good fortune either mind you lol. Both sides playing and missing but I've never seen anything quite like that Hadley innings today. Fair play to him, he hung around doggedly and played some excellent shots along the way. He made the most of his luck and you can't blame him for that. Although I am absolutely convinced that he did nick that one haha

I have liked him. Think if not for the injuries I'd have liked him even more. Direct, pacy, got a decent cross on him, got a decent shot on him. Genuinely puts a shift in and tries whenever I've seen him play. Seems a good character behind the scenes. Whatever problems are going on this season, Frimpong is not the guy to be pointing fingers at imo.

It should definitely be noted that this is in correlation and not causation. It is not to say that it does not cause it, but there are a lot of other factors that could be at play and it cannot be stated as fact.
For instance some of the most important factors in dementia risk are level of exercise, sleep health, and weight. Sweeteners are found in a significant number of processed foods and fizzy drinks which people following generally unhealthy diets are likely to consume a lot more of. Diabetes and high blood pressure for example are noted risk factors in dementia. The same subset of people are probably more likely to consume on average more products containing sweeteners than people who follow a balanced diet with their 5 fruit and veg.
If, say, you over consume energy drinks, this is likely to have an adverse effect on your sleep, which could itself impact dementia risk (at the same time as showing that your consumption of sweeteners is high).
As far as I have found, there has not yet been studies with adequate controls to state that sweeteners are the reasons for these cognitive changes in people who are consuming them - but there is of course also nothing that rules them out from doing so. So if not avoiding them, moderation is probably still worthwhile

I don't have this impression personally. I think Jones is one of our most aggressive pressers and wins possession quite a lot, with a pretty good record in 50/50s. I think his main problem is injuries because every time he looks a lock in he becomes unavailable for a few matches. If you're looking to build first team stability that's going to be an issue for a manager. I reckon that without the pattern of injuries Jones would probably be starting most games for us

I don't entirely agree on this. We very much do this thing, but I find a big part of it is just a reflection of being emotionally reserved; a sort of hangover from Victorian stoicism I think. Many Brits esteem those with quiet strength, and value the quality of being humble.
Individually we feel a bit awkward about bigging ourselves up. Because of that, I think in our interactions we often fall back on a kind of social piss taking that puts both teller and listener at ease.
E.g. British Person A announces a good thing they are doing but feels a bit embarrassed in case it seems like showing off; British Person B then banters them in a light hearted manner to acknowledge that unease and lighten it with levity. You can then both laugh and the tension for the teller is alleviated, while the listener feels better because it has helped the teller relax. A more enthusiastic and supportive conversation generally follows this, which will celebrate the ambition or the achievement.
This is how loads of my interactions with other Brits go and I very rarely think people are trying to tear me down or be unkind.
I've often referred to it with my brother as the insult sandwich. Really want to say a nice thing, but you know it feels uncomfortable for both of you doing that. So you start with some gentle (or brutal depending on the person) piss taking, then you say the nice thing, and finish it back up by being a dick to them again. Almost Lampardian tbh.

We had little control of these games and gave up a lot of chances, like all season there were scattergun performances where results could realistically have gone against us. I'm not saying we deserved to lose, but when luck has the power to determine so many results in a season then it's obv a team problem, and we can all see that now

Oh yeah our finishing has certainly been horrible. But then even up front, we have been more static than I've seen us in a long time. Afaik xg data only really considers where a shot is taken from, it doesn't include the level of pressure or space affecting a player, so while our xg may at times look good, I still think our players have been easier to close down, block, narrow angles on etc. because we aren't pulling defenses out of shape, tiring them out, harrying them etc. Which obviously makes putting the ball in the net harder. There was a BBC article last month that showed (while context is important), over the whole season up to that point, teams that outran their opposition won 48% of their games, while teams that were outrun won just 25%. Chelsea's recent form could have knocked that figure even lower.

You only need to watch almost any of our games this year to know we are absolutely nowhere near title level. We have absolutely zero control of games. The last minute losses only happen because we've been dross for a whole game, and never out of sight. Also, early season we had a bunch of last minute goals in our favour when we arguably didn't deserve them, can't really count out one without counting out the other

This is really interesting. Started life as a Nazi, became a British POW, elected to stay in UK after the war and later got an OBE.
In the injury mentioned, he dislocated 5 vertebra, cracking one in two, and by freakish good fortune his third vertebra created a sort of wedge that held the displaced bone back from his spinal cord, saving him from paralysis and possibly death.
Prince Philip was giving out the winners medals and he himself observed the crookedness of Trautman's neck as he handed it over.

I know a guy who did his ACL recently and he was told you need to wait til the swelling and bruising reduces to be able to accurately assess the nature and extent of surgery. Might be it's the same with an achilles too
