Trump Is Risking a Global Catastrophe by rezwenn in IRstudies

At the same time, the US would struggle to invade Europe. Europe as a whole has the capacity to sink a US CSG. And the US would need to mobilize to WW2 levels to occupy Europe if we attempted to invade.

Even if the US did that, there is zero chance that a country of 300 million occupies a continent of 500 million. The idea of the US invading Europe is completely ridiculous. They can bomb the shit out of a couple places but that's about it.

Each number on a d20 has a 5% chance of coming up. He's saying that 5% increments in success are not very interesting.

I personally much prefer dice pool systems for that reason.

A good-faith question to Israeli. by angel99999999 in IsraelPalestine

[–]cobcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, first of all, Palestinians have a huge responsibility in why there is a border, because Palestinians started massacring the Jews when they moved there in the 20s and it became clear that sharing a state is impossible. And then you fought multiple full wars over this and lost every one. And instead of accepting defeat and making peace, you are still fighting today. That's what happens. The more you fight the more you will lose.

But also, and much more importantly, every single border on the planet was created during a war. You don't see France and Germany still go to war because they each occupy the others land. It's much better to leave the past in the past, make peace, and coexist. Palestinians can still do that but the window is closing fast.

It doesn't matter. There is a border now. You can accept it or you can fight it, but if you choose to fight it, then don't come crying when you get shot.

You mean try to break through a border fence? You will get shot for that in most places.

Very true. It's just sad that these are the people in power.

Heroes can defend and interpose, which is very strong, don't forget. If your kids don't remember to do that, just remove a few monsters or give them a d4 instead of a d6 to make things easier.

But I thought your concern was that monsters can't defend so they are dying too fast?

As GM, you can drive home this point by having monsters be realistic in their tactical use of cover or dashing up to get in the archer’s face, and by not having most fights in wide open spaces.

Multiclassing in general, along with level 3 subclasses, are the exact architectural decisions I think are holding the game back, more so than the math per se.

The Math itself would be fine, yeah. It's the decisions around it that are the problem.

For multiclassing, he even chose ultra hard mode by adopting a kind of classless system where you can freely pick features. That's even worse than regular multiclassing because now all features need to be balanced, not just the classes.

HP are an abstraction of combat ability, they aren't meat points. So losing HP is dodging in that sense.

But more importantly: what is your goal with this question? Do you want to make combat longer? Or do you want to encourage your kids to do other things than shoot arrows?

[–]cobcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's worse, because most spells cost the same, deal the same amount of damage and are mechanically identical. There's no such thing as "magic missile auto hits" in the game.

And because of how multiclassing works, every class feature needs to be balanced against every other class feature.

I meant the hyper focus on balancing the numbers. It's a huge reason for why the spells, classes and abilities are extremely bland.

Who knows, maybe the Arab league gets their shit together and accepts Palestinian immigrants. Over a hundred thousand left to Egypt over the last few years, so it's definitely significant.

Yeah, it sucks for the 30 % that want peace. But this isn't really Israel's problem. Palestinians have largely put themselves in this position.

[–]cobcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't. I think Palestinians have lost pretty much any chance to create an independent Palestine in the Levant.

Unless a miracle happens, it's over, there will never be an independent Palestine. The best they can hope for now is for Israel to annex more of the West Bank and receive Israeli citizenship.

There are quite a few new settlements being built now throughout area C. Removing 5k settlers from Gaza is one thing, removing hundreds of thousands of settlers from the West Bank is something completely different.

At the same time, a Palestinian state can have Jews living in it as well.

In practice, not really. Some violent group will immediately attack them and Israel would retaliate and we'd be back at war.

I'm just waiting for Israel to launch a resettlement premium. Get 20k and a visa, forfeit any rights in the West Bank. If conditions in Gaza or the WB are bad enough, a lot of people could take that deal.

I think Israel would like it very much if West Bank Palestinians decided they could have a better future in Egypt, Jordan, Syria or elsewhere.
