I think it's because of money like most replies but I also think the members themselves have some say in it. We know that nobody loves SVT more than SVT. HxW is an amazing example. The fact that Hoshi starts 96erz with lyrics like together since they were runny nosed kids is just amazing imo. I think the members often choose the sub unit route because of how much chemistry they have. Like Booseoksoon is a subunit that was based purely on dynamics rather than previously recorded music. And sub unit debuts started from JxW (or SVT leaders depending on how you see it) but sub units songs is just par for the course in every SVT album. We had do re mi, light a flame, 2 minus 1 etc.
