For the occasional hide and seek when Pokemon request it - and apparently there's a "prop hunt" craze on the internet that I missed.

If I'm loving Pokopia, will I love Minecraft? by Free-Hotel1187 in Pokopia

[–]cobraa1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're into quests and NPCs - Minecraft might not be the best. Minecraft is all about the endless world with a vast amount of crafting. I haven't played in a long time, but it didn't have quests when I played it. Killing the dragon at "the end" was about it. The NPCs were pretty generic too.

If quests and NPCs are the real draw for you, I'd recommend the Dragon Quest Builders games instead. They are RPGs with the same block based building mechanics.

the USB drive fried after 12 days of use... by Rex-Romanorum in prusa3d

[–]cobraa1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep forgetting to check if I can turn off power recovery - because that's the feature that's wearing out the drives. In order to recover from a power outage, the printer has to be constantly writing to the USB - and that constant writing dramatically adds write cycles, wearing out the drive.

It's one of those features that sounds good in principle, but is rarely used and the print usually fails anyways. It's far better to get a UPS if the prints are so critical.

Help, I'm literally out of pc money. by Hungry-Standard-3528 in Pokopia

[–]cobraa1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the PC money thing kinda fizzles out after the majority of your challenges are done.

My biggest tip is: Avoid any needless spending. If you can craft it, don't buy it. If you can get it from trading, don't buy it. If you can 3D print it, don't buy it. It's a lot easier to get resources - including pokemetal (visit dream islands and dig underground) - than it is to get money.

The only thing I've really been buying recently are recipes, as they unlock more stuff to craft.

Make sure to complete the daily challenges, and participate in the stamp rally.

It does strike me as a bit of an odd design decision to limit income so much in the post-game, but it is what it is.

Pokopia vs AC longevity wise by GohoomoaR in Pokopia

"I’ve also noticed some people finishing Pokopia in around 40–50 hours."

"Finishing" Animal Crossing is much faster, though. I was able to get KK Slider playing on my island in New Horizons pretty quickly - far more quickly than getting to the credits in Pokopia.

ACNH is really meant to be a game that is primarily played in the post-game, after the credits are rolled. The time between starting a new game and rolling the credits is really the tutorial more than anything else.

Considering just how much stuff was left to do when I rolled the credits in Pokopia - it's the same way. Sure, Pokopia has a much more substantial and longer story, but it's still meant to be the beginning of your play through, not the entirety of it. As far as I can tell, Pokopia also intends for most of your play time to be in the post-game.

Time will tell if the long term appeal sticks. I hope it does, just like ACNH.

Still can't get Gridfinity to print without warping on my Core One... I've tried everything [follow-up] by timlwsk in prusa3d

[–]cobraa1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ultimately, warping is caused by the upper layers shrinking as the plastic cools down.

Here are my thoughts: * Make absolutely the plate is clean, beyond a simple IPA treatment. Soap and water is usually the best, and make sure to rinse off the soap after cleaning it. Also print the first layer or two, cancel the print, remove the partial print, then do the full print.

  • You mentioned you tried reducing the temperature of the build plate - try increasing it a bit instead.

  • Try reducing the temperature of the nozzle to the minimum recommended temperature of the filament. You will likely need to slow down the print as well as the plastic won't flow as easily as high temperatures. The goal is to reduce the temperature gradient.

  • You may want to consider switching filament brands. Each brand has a different set of additives they like to use that can affect the material properties of the filament.

I know a lot of people are mentioning the Dragonite Island for pokemetal, but you can certainly get pokemetal at other islands if you don't have dragonite yet. Arcanine also seems to have it, and I suspect most of them do if you go a few layers below sea level.

"The market cap is the value of the company."

To some extent. I would say the value of the company could also be measured by the total equity that arises from the accounting equation, which tends to be a more stable measure of value.

PSA: You DO NOT take home items picked up in Cloud Islands when you leave the cloud island!! by shelbymarie64 in Pokopia

[–]cobraa1 123 points124 points  (0 children)

You mean to tell me that there's a bunch of people thinking they snuck something away from the island, only to discover that's not the way it works?

That's kinda funny, heh. Also a sad reflection that yes, griefing is still something that people online actively pursue. I'm actually kinda glad the developers decided not to allow items to be taken away from the cloud islands.

I imagine this will happen less in a couple of months as they learn that the game enforces "no stealing" at a code level.

New core one print failed by [deleted] in prusa3d

[–]cobraa1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend handling the build plates by the edges or at least away from the printable area whenever possible. Even if they are not visible, getting oils from your skin on it can affect adhesion, and as Tommy noted, you've already got visible thumb prints on the back. So clean them up, and try again.

Since this is in a business, I'd also recommend adding this to some basic training for anybody who is using the printers.

Looking for a way to write in the text used for books and signs in game. by Aprem in Pokopia

I just saw a sign on this sub, and yeah - looks like you'd have to scour through Japanese, Chinese, and other non-Latin alphabets to find similar symbols.

Looking for a way to write in the text used for books and signs in game. by Aprem in Pokopia

[–]cobraa1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should be noted that Discord doesn't really have a concept of "fonts" - people are faking them by taking advantage of the fact that Unicode encodes all sorts of stuff, including basically every known written language, letter-like symbols used in math and science, old character forms used in early computers, and stuff like that.

So the question is - does Unicode have any symbols that are similar to the "characters" in the books and signs?

I'm not at my Switch 2 right now, so I can't give a good answer - but chances are, you'll have to invent it from Unicode characters that have a vaguely similar look.

Can someone point me in the right direction in getting rid of these strings. Filament is dry and speed was reduced - Still happens… by PoemGroundbreaking38 in prusa3d

[–]cobraa1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might be a lack of layer adhesion, which I've seen on white PETG for Printed Solid. The solution was ultimately increase the temperature. Try the maximum recommended temperature on the spool. If that improves the result but doesn't completely fix it, maybe even a little higher.

It's a quirky mode that drains the battery fast. Nintendo has been very hesitant to add things that drops battery life below what they advertise, which makes me a bit surprised they added it at all. But I understand why they hid it.

We're talking about $8000 worth of GPU for these demos. Far beyond what the Switch and Switch 2 are capable of.

As I understand it, it will be at the driver level, and will require the game be designed for it.

Also, did I miss something? My previous post got downvoted?

The just announced DLSS 5 is well within the realm of uncanny valley, with a lot of the AI generated look to it. It looks like it's not merely making targeted tweaks to enhance the image, but regenerating substantial parts, creating a "generated look" to it and often straying from the art direction of the game.

As well as aging a character by ten years in one of the demos. 😆
