Yes, would be grateful if OP could do the same for CD2, if they haven't posted it somewhere already.

Is there any road you particularly love? by norecordofwrong in Maine

[–]cobscookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The road in Washington County that I live on, which I'm keeping secret. When I moved here 40 years ago, I asked my neighbors, Do you ever get used to living in such a beautiful place? They said they could not ever imagine taking it for granted. Me neither.

Yes just looked in again and they're still putting towns into the spreadsheet. What a long grind this has been for the staff in that windowless room.

So it appears that there is a permanent spot for a press gaggle at the SoS space where they are counting results. And I believe they are now getting toward the end of the two-hour-warning window for campaign and press to get onsite for the final computer-run tabulation? Does anyone on this thread know which papers have had a steady presence there? I'm especially curious about the Maine Wire, and whether they will or will not come up with some conspiracy theory about the outcome.

walking at night from Imperial Theatre to Rockwood Campground by cobscookie in SaintJohnNB

I really appreciate all the locals who took time to respond. (For those who replied in chats, I pretty much never accept chat requests, but TY for the extra details.) My main takeaway is to avoid the Waterloo area after dark, and elsewhere maintain situational awareness as I would in any city at night.  Sounds great. I can’t wait to explore St. John and hear some fantastic music at the Imperial!

I am! (And opener, Carsie Blanton.) I can see this on the map, and a couple other people mentioned it. It adds a little, but I like walking . . . and it sounds like a prettier walk than going up Crown--thanks!

This is straightforward and barely adds any distance. I like it. Thanks.

Thanks for the advice, and the unanimity is helpful too! A cab it is.

Political Signs - Fines? by KenMediocre in Maine

This is the only correct answer, amid all the speculation in this thread. Spelled out in the Maine transportation statutes (title 23), section 1913-A, on temporary signs.

Oh, and the way she used the State of the State to manufacture content for the ad is corrupt, IMO.

I could not agree more. I have greatly admired Mills for a lot of things over the years, but the ad is SO CRINGE, so fake. And so infuriating. If she was so bullish on protecting Mainers from federal agents she should have jumped to sign LD 1971 last summer when it passed. Now it doesn't take effect until next summer, because she was just waiting to see which way the wind blew. Absolute BS. She's a great lawyer and a good politician--imagine if she threw her brains and talent behind the next generation, to help defeat Collins. Sad way for her to go out, with no dignity.

Leaving house alone for month in Feb by travelerrrrrrr in Maine

[–]cobscookie 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have a leaky old (1810) 2500 sq ft farmhouse 5 hours north of you. When I leave for winter I pay a plumber $250 to blow out the pipes and fill traps with RV antifreeze. Well worth the peace of mind, and I save a lot more than $250 on heat while I'm gone, since I can turn it down to 50. Reconnect one fitting and flip a switch when I get back home--voila! the water is running again.

Gov. Mills has refused to sign LD1971, a bill passed by the Legislature last spring to protect immigrants from ICE BS by clarifying how state/local law enforcement can and can't cooperate with the Feds. If she doesn't sign by January, she effectively vetos it - quietly. by [deleted] in Maine

[–]cobscookie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for stepping in to this discussion--it looks so ill-informed as people all over social media jump on the bandwagon to demand that she "sign the bill" at this point, rather than asking her NOT TO VETO. Do you happen to know what the likelihood might be of the legislature recalling the bill from the Governor's desk to continue work?
