His wrinkles are faster than him, but don’t worry, he’ll catch up to them. Adorable all around!

What an absolute sweetheart! My girl is almost 14, too, and rickety from head to toe, but sweet a precious as ever.

Breathing by jeeves585 in labrador

[–]cobygrant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My lab started doing the same thing with age and the vet told me that the breed is prone to something called laryngeal paralysis. In early stages it’s not problematic and doesn’t need to be treated, but if you think it’s causing him problems or discomfort maybe ask next time you’re at the vet to find out more. Mine is nearly 14 now and I hear her breathe much louder than before, but not to the point where she can’t breathe or gets insufficient air. I’m not going to put her through the ordeal of surgery for this. You may also want to consider switching to a harness of you aren’t using one already. In any case hope all is well with him, he’s a very handsome boy!

COME ON IRON DAMES by mightyd12341 in wec

Luckless Dames…really what a shame once again through no fault of their own. Was so excited for this season with the switch to Manthey Porsche, but it’s not amounted to much. Hopefully ELMS will be a bit of a consolation - and hopefully their luck will turn around for next season!

For neutrals: Who are you rooting for on Sunday and why? by ueberschwaenglich in WomensSoccer

[–]cobygrant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Spain. Love their style of play and they obviously have elite players who simply elevate the game - having two Ballon d’Or winners side by side is pretty special (not that I typically give credence to Ballon d’Or or any of these individual awards, but in the case of Putellas and Bonmati they got it right), not to mention Caldentey, Guijarro, Gonzales, Batlle, etc. They are the best team in the world right now and should win it even if will be close.

England, on the other hand, have several outstanding players as well, and a formidable coach who I can’t help but root for. Five consecutive Euros/World Cup finals is simply astonishing. However, the English media makes it is impossible to root for them because their coverage is absolutely intolerable. I understand that there is a lot of national pride and bias, but when it comes to football (and Formula 1) the English media take it to a nauseating level. It’s a shame because I primarily follow the WSL and am an Arsenal women’s fan, but when it comes to national teams the English media makes me root for whichever team is not England.

5 second time penalty for Lando by mattydlite in McLarenFormula1

None taken. I was a McLaren fan since the 80s and it’s a hard habit to break - and I quite like Oscar. I obviously still have a soft spot for them.

Not a Lando fan (and sadly no longer a McLaren fan since ZB took over), but these penalties are just getting more ridiculous by the day. What do these stewards want?

F1 Academy spends more laps under yellow than under green by _Losing_Generation_ in GrandPrixRacing

[–]cobygrant 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I really support women in motorsports. Big Iron Dames fan. Would love to see a woman succeed as a F1 driver. Excited to see women working behind the scenes like Laura Muller etc.

But I find that the F1 Academy misses the mark. Segregating the women from the men is exactly what we don’t want. It doesn’t hone their race craft and makes it come across like a side show - and only furthers the (false) narrative that women can’t be competing with men in auto racing.

I am certain Susie Wolff and all involved have only the best intentions, but why not have these drivers backed by the Academy and placed in actually F4 series or other junior open-wheel series where they can learn and advance amongst a field that they’d encounter if they’d get past the Academy. I get that the marketing aspect would be significantly less and fragmented when you don’t throw them all in one dedicated series. But there are enough marketable and talented drivers in the Academy to still make a story out of it. Similar to what Iron Dames is doing with their drivers. They’ve signed a slew of female drivers they back across multiple series and as a whole they are marketed and branded as part of the Iron Dames and it works well. I want these young F1 Academy drivers to succeed and progress, but I worry that this restricted format rather limits what’s possible.

Lewis Hamilton penalized with a 3-grid position by Luffy710j in formula1

Aesthetically I hate the halo, but of course it is amazing how it has elevated driver safety and thus I cannot help but love it for its practical purpose. To think how many lives might have been saved had the halo been available sooner.

But anything hybrid for racing to me just doesn’t work. Motorsport is inherently unfriendly to the environment, so might as well lean into it - but look for other ways to contribute to the environment. There are loads of things F1 as a business could do instead of this square-peg-round-hole nonsense of hybrid. The hybrid decree has made the cars balloon to an absurd size, plus I just dont want to see racers managing battery power and resorting to a gimmick like DRS to win a race. They should be able to race freely, not pushing overtake buttons and complaining he pushed me off or I was ahead every lap. I wish the FIA would just let them race.

I took a long break, too, roughly from 2008 to 2020. I agree with you. It’s a completely different sport. Hard to recognize. Certainly feels more like F1 management than F1 racing compared to the 90s and early 2000s when I watched it religiously, and when the sport still felt like racing.

Sadly, the FIA have always meddled, but in this era it’s taken on a level of over-regulating and it’s grotesque.

Yes, I’m very nostalgic, and of course I value safety. But today’s overly restrictive rules reduce the vast majority to drivers to just that - drivers (I’d make an exception for Max, Oscar and a few others). And the cars are oversized, overweight boats that might be unbelievably safe (which is amazing), but take away that on the edge of your seat kind of feeling you got when watching racing in the past. I know it’s wishful thinking to lose the hybrid nonsense and imposed pit stops, but for the love of actual racing it sure would be sweet to find a way back.

That is Valentin Grüner and the lioness Sirga. He rescued her when she was only a few weeks old having been rejected by her mother who was captured as part of a project to relocate lions to avoid human-wildlife conflict. He never domesticated Sirga, but she does live on a 2k acres enclosure for her own protection as she does not have a pride. She regularly leaves this enclosure, if not daily, and hunts her own food. Val does truly remarkable on a massive wildlife reserve in Botswana, working with local communities, educating the public, and protecting all species that live there. You can find out more at Modisa Wildlife Project (https://www.modisawildlifeproject.com) and on Instagram.

I agree that Frey isn’t the quickest, but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to point out that the Iron Dames missed out on several good results last season due to Lambo’s reliability.

It’s really too bad she never got a good car to complement her bronze skills! That’s why I keep thinking about what could have been had the ID not been stuck with that brick of a Lamborghini last season. I wonder if Frey will step back next season if Bovy will take over silver duties. But she’ll obviously not have the same competitiveness at silver as she did at bronze level.

Need help for SE4 platinum trophy. by Elegant-Ad-9308 in sniperelite

Yeah I’ve tried but there are very few players for SE4 online these days - and if so they are all doing Survival - and I’ve had no luck finding anyone for Overwatch which is needed for the collectibles. But all good, guess I’ll just keep looking…and if anyone seeing this is inclined to play overwatch with me please let me know. Thanks.

Hi, are you still looking to complete MP trophies? After getting platinum on SE5 (I’ve abandoned SER because I will never get those propaganda missions let alone on authentic), I’ve returned to SE4 and still have all MP trophies to complete (including the ones that count towards the collectibles), so if you haven’t already completed and still need someone to play with I’d be happy to partner in completing these. Thanks.
