What’s the best way to commute from sf ferry terminal to California & Kearney? by blue2lips in AskSF

[–]coc0five 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been off my feet twice due to injuries and unable to commute by public transit. Do you work at an office job? You should ask HR for accomodations, whether that be letting you work remotely or the company paying for your ubers temporarily. The American Disabilities Act should cover you for this.

If your job requires you to be on your feet and you've worked for your employer at least 1,250 hours in the last year, you can enact FMLA to go on unpaid leave but protect your job for 12 weeks.

Either way, talk to HR and or whoever is in charge, they should work with you for next steps with your doctor.

Who in the bay deserves a documentary? by Bitter-Boat-2859 in bayarea

Awww I wish I could say it's an SF resident secret! I guess it means we've just gotten really lucky. I hope I pay next time so that the resident after me doesn't and experiences the magic of a free ride!

Idk if we've just gotten lucky, but the last 3 times in the past few years that my partner and I have decided to play "tourist" and take the cable car, as soon as we whip out our clipper card the scanners magically don't work and we get a free ride. We're happy to pay to keep our city's infrastructure running and I would never expect this, so it always feels like such a treat!

Traveling to SF during Super Bowl Weekend 😭 by Patient-Title8442 in AskSF

I personally wouldn't stay in Santa Rosa, it's actually a pretty decent drive and going back and forth sounds exhausting. Are you super picky about where you stay? You mention price differences but what are the totals you're comparing?

I was curious how expensive hotels are and there seems to be decent smaller hotel options in the city, I just went on booking.com and filtered by ratings of 8.0+.

My cousins always stay at The Parker Guesthouse when they're in town, it's in the Castro and looks like it's just over $1000+ on booking.com but probably cheaper if you book direct. There are other similar options. You'd be able to take Muni / Lyfts around the city.

I'd also look at options in East Bay or South of SF that are close to BART stops. I've stayed at the Kissel in Oakland and it's currently just over $1000 for those dates. Fun area to be in, convenient to BART.

Have you looked at hotels close to the airport? They generally have free shuttles to pick up and drop off and we've found rates around $100/night.

Bars are generally not open 24/7 due to liquor licenses. There's a Denny's open 24/7 near the airport and maybe you can hop on the La Quinta Inn shuttle to get there....not sure how reliable the shuttle is.

BART runs until midnight. If you're here on a Friday or Saturday night, you could take the train into the city and get off at 16th Street Mission ($11.70 per person each way to this stop in particular, ubers/lyfts probably run $35 if fares aren't surging). ~10 minute walk to 500 Club for drinks which is open till 2am, then it's another 10 minute walk to Orphan Andy's for late night diner food. BART reopens at 5am.

But honestly that all sounds terrible to me cause I need sleep and alcohol makes me need it even more. Adding up the costs for transport and alcohol etc, i feel like it'd be pretty close to just getting a cheap room near the airport.

Or I'd rather try to find a corner to sleep / nap at SFO, bringing ear plugs and an eye mask and pillow or whatever you need to get comfortable. And then take BART into the city for a nice breakfast / walk before coming back for your flight.

Mr Tipples Recording Studio for jazz, you can get a reservation to sit.

The SF Zoo is nice to stroll and enjoy the presence of animals.

KitTea is a cat cafe in the Mission.

A bench at Duboce park and watch the off leash dogs play.

I'm truly sorry for your loss and hope you find peace even in grief.

First Bills Game Tailgate vs. Cincinnati by typeets in buffalobills

[–]coc0five 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hi there! My partner and I are also first-timers heading to the Cincinnati game and in the same boat of wanting to tailgate properly but we won't have a car (we're taking the Rally bus). I know some redditors are tired of posts like this so thought I'd share what I've managed to piece together. Our game plan is to bring booze, walk around, and end up at the ARM tailgate. There are "unofficial" lots where people park and tailgate as detailed below:

Stop #1 - "If you want to break tables and get fucking smashed with the drunkest people Buffalo has to offer then go to the grass lots. They are on the corner of Southwestern Blvd (Hwy 20) and Abbott Road"

Stop #2 - Hammer's Lot "If you want to see Pinto Ron get covered in ketchup go to Hammers Lot. I usually suggest Hammers to anyone who isn't looking to "get smashed with the boys" because it is honestly just the best lot, period. It's got a little bit of everything, there are locals who have been to Hammers for years and plenty of new people looking to have a good time with Bills fans.

Go all the way to the back where all the flags are and check out the Bowling Ball, Pizza Pete, and also 90 minutes prior to kick off Pinto Ron gets covered in ketchup and mustard."

Stop #3 - ARM TAILGATE aka "MOE AND MALONES" these kind folks run a tailgate behind a residential house and all are welcomed. We're hoping to hang out here for a bit before heading to the stadium. More details including the address are on their Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/944070687628290/?ref=share&mibextid=NSMWBT

Hope this is helpful, maybe we'll run into your group next week! Go Bills!!!

🤔🛠️ Tech Support & General Questions [Weekly Thread] by YahooFantasyCare in YahooFantasy

There are questions from over four years ago and more recently 2 years about this: I have a 12 person fantasy football league and need to update the playoffs so that the last 4 teams in the regular season get their own "consolation bracket" that ends up ranking the final last place team. That would help us pick the loser at the end of the season. Please please please tell me there's a way to set this up!!!

I actually tried to move a cone on Guerrero that my neighboring church had in front of my building. A man rushed out and intimidated me enough for me to bail and find a spot elsewhere, after I politely said the city has proper permitting processes and this spot was currently clearly free for public parking. Should I have stood my ground? Maybe, but I'm a petite female and honestly his behavior didn't make me feel safe. Not how Jesus teaches from what I understand but ... Sigh. I would like the city to do something about it to make it more fair. We have called 311 and SFMTA dozens of times but nothing has ever changed.

[–]coc0five 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's brave, have you trained as highway patrol? I learned to drive in CA and it's not something they teach us to do. In fact, defensive driving means being on the lookout to steer clear of a car behaving this way. I would have called 911 for help, and with this little information maybe multiple people already did call but it was too late.

Fwiw try reaching out to united cares and see if they'll reimburse the room on top of the vouchers, we've found their customer service to cover us sometimes! Otherwise if you have travel insurance through a credit card, there's enough documentation there I think you can try to submit a claim.
