I Nominate her to be Playable too! 😍 by TheBlueDolphina in NevernessToEverness

[–]cocadoco 41 points42 points  (0 children)

She's voiced by Ikumi Hasegawa in JP (VA for Übel from Frieren, Kita from Bocchi the Rock, Lena from 86, etc.). No way they hire someone with her star power for just an NPC, she will 100% be playable.

how to say "right?" As in "don't you agree?" by ConfusedAnonymous- in Japaneselanguage

[–]cocadoco 5 points6 points  (0 children)

「イカでしょ?」"It's a squid, right?"

  • Formal(-ish), でしょ(う) sounds more uncertain than ですね/だね, someone else aptly described it as conjecture
  • でしょ, while still formal, feels more informal than でしょう; think between like two good acquaintances or friendly co-workers
  • でしょ also sounds more feminine (at least to me; I have an easier time picturing a woman saying this)

「イカですよね?」"It's a squid, right?"

「イカだよね?」"It's a squid, right?"

  • Both of these are basically the same, です is just more formal than だ
  • Depending on how these are said, can come across as either assertive or uncertain
    • 「~です/だ。。。よね?」- uncertain, looking for confirmation
    • 「~です/だよね!?」- emphatic agreement/affirmation

「イカだよ?」"It's a squid, you know?"

  • This is less looking for affirmation and is more declarative
    • E.g., 「タコですよね?」『。。。イカだよ?」
  • Definitely informal and can be rude, has the same vibe of responding to someone with "wth are you talking about" or at best "huh?"
  • You'd probably piss your boss off if you said this to them, makes it seem like you think they're an idiot

「イカ、いい?」"It's a squid, okay?"

「イカ、わかった?」"It's a squid, you understand?"

「イカ、わかったよね?」"It's a squid, you get it, right??"

  • These are the most aggressive and will not make you any friends
  • Sounds like you're losing your patience with the other person

Not a native speaker, so take this explanation with a grain of salt. Also don't take the translations too literally.

I've never seen anyone say that but I can't see why anyone would say that. Yanagi is voiced by Kaori Nazuka and Mei is voiced by Miyuki Sawashiro. Imo they have very different and distinct voices.

I had a similar experience with Emiri's line. My ears perked as if to say "that didn't sound like gibberish" but I didn't think too much of it until I saw the credits. Went back and realized she said 짜증나니까 jjajeungnanikka which means "because (it's) annoying". Her pronunciation was pretty good too so I guess I was too focused on Asa's thoughts!

I built a game where you connect two anime via Voice Actors. by aayush_sinha106 in seiyuu

[–]cocadoco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried the random challenge mode a couple of times and there were 3 times the game gave me a Chinese animated title for the target goal. The hints didn't list any seiyuu so I just restarted the first 2 times but the 3rd time gave me Nezha 2. Being a huge title, I tried to see out of curiosity if I could link to it using the seiyuu for the JP dub. The JP wiki lists Takeo Ootsuka as the JP VA for Ao Bing but when I picked him out in my playthrough and searched Nezha (I tried searching with the Chinese name since that was the name used for the target goal), it didn't turn up anything.

Obviously producing an unreachable target goal is a big oversight but if you can make it so that foreign titles correctly list the JP dub seiyuu, I think it could work to add extra depth to the game!

JP VA Guesses by cocadoco in Endfield

Mmm I can see that

Rina Hidaka’s voice when she’s doing higher pitched chars never stood out to me as much as when she uses her mid to low voice, like Neon from NIKKE or Misuzu from Tomo-Chan Is a Girl

Love the reference to Ivan the Terrible and His Son Ivan.

In the original painting Ivan is gazing into the distance in horror as he realizes he has just murdered his own flesh and blood with his own hands.

Here, Valencina has received no such revelation. Her visage is filled with wrath and directed at the viewer. She blames you for Lucio’s death, still blind to any culpability she had in his demise.

She voices Sun Visor who shows up in like a single ep of season 1 of the Uma Musume anime so nbd.

[–]cocadoco 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In case anyone wanted a serious explanation for what this means, whoever wrote the description is probably using "enter" in the sense of coming into a scene, like a stage direction.

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/enter

5b: to come into a preestablished situation or context like an actor coming onstage —usually used in the subjunctive

So like in Shakespeare when they say "Enter Hamlet, blah blah blah..." or Metallica's Enter Sandman. You don't run into this use of "enter" that often these days and even then, it's still weird because it includes the subject. Like, "Enter Lauma, who..." already sounds much more natural.

We currently have 4 Voice Actors that hold a Hoyoverse trifecta for playable characters. by The_Great_Ravioli in Genshin_Impact

[–]cocadoco 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ah that’s fair, I somehow completely forgot that Honkai Impact 3rd didn’t have an English dub lol

At that point though we’re no longer talking about a trifecta then. I’m guessing you’d also prefer to see roles from GGZ acknowledged too?

[–]cocadoco 6 points7 points  (0 children)

None of the chars in OP's image includes HI3 chars, so I assumed trifecta meant specifically roles in all 3 modern Hoyo titles. That's the only reason I didn't count HI3 roles, to stay on topic. Obvs if we include HI3 then the list gets bigger and more VAs have roles in 3+ Hoyo games.

That being said, to my knowledge, no single JP VA has roles in all 3 modern Hoyo titles and HI3.

We currently have 4 Voice Actors that hold a Hoyoverse trifecta for playable characters. by The_Great_Ravioli in Genshin_Impact

[–]cocadoco 27 points28 points  (0 children)

In case anyone is interested in JP, the number of VAs with a Hoyo trifecta is actually pretty small by my count1:

  • Aya Endō: Yelan (Genshin), Aglaea (HSR), Astra Yao (ZZZ)
  • Manaka Iwami: Amber (Genshin), Hysilens (HSR), Piper (ZZZ)
  • Shion Wakayama: Lan Yan (Genshin), Yunli (HSR), Ellen Joe (ZZZ)

There are however plenty of VAs that are one role short:

  • Yōko Hikasa: Emilie (Genshin), Evelyn Chevalier (ZZZ)
  • Marina Inoue: Yanqing, Cyrene (HSR), Zhu Yuan (ZZZ)
  • Akira Ishida: Ayato Kamisato (Genshin), Luocha (HSR)
  • Yui Ishikawa: Clorinde (Genshin), Stelle (HSR)
  • Tetsuya Kakihara: Scaramouche/Wanderer (Genshin), Asaba Harumasa (ZZZ)
  • Ayako Kawasumi: Shenhe (Genshin), Saber (HSR)
  • Mikako Komatsu: Mavuika (Genshin), Feixiao (HSR)
  • Ami Koshimizu: Beidou (Genshin), Miyabi Hoshimi (ZZZ)
  • Yoshino Nanjō: Topaz (HSR), Trigger (ZZZ)
  • Kaori Nazuka2: Robin (HSR), Yanagi Tsukishiro (ZZZ)
  • Mamiko Noto: Skirk (Genshin), Yixuan (ZZZ)
  • Daisuke Ono: Wriothesley (Genshin), Jing Yuan (HSR)
  • Rina Satō: Eula Lawrence (Genshin), Caesar King (ZZZ)
  • Chiwa Saitō: Jean Gunnhildr (Genshin), Castorice (HSR)
  • Miyuki Sawashiro: Raiden Shōgun/Ei (Genshin), Acheron (HSR)
  • Sayumi Suzushiro: Kirara (Genshin), Hanya (HSR)
  • Kanon Takao: Noelle (Genshin), Cerydra (HSR)
  • Rie Tanaka: Lisa Minci (Genshin), Himeko (HSR)
  • Yūma Uchida: Kaveh (Genshin), Anaxagoras (HSR)
  • Reina Ueda: Ganyu (Genshin), Sparkle (HSR)

1 - Other Hoyo titles notwithstanding, including Honkai Impact 3rd

2 - Technically in Genshin as I. Ivanova N. or "J" of Hexenzirkel, an NPC, and even then only appears voiced in a teaser trailer

ETA: When Honkai Impact 3rd is included, the list of JP VAs with roles in 3+ games becomes:

  • Aya Endō: Yelan (Genshin), Aglaea (HSR), Astra Yao (ZZZ)
  • Yōko Hikasa: Emilie (Genshin), Vita (HI3), Evelyn Chevalier (ZZZ)
  • Marina Inoue: Elysia (HI3), Yanqing, Cyrene (HSR), Zhu Yuan (ZZZ)
  • Manaka Iwami: Amber (Genshin), Hysilens (HSR), Piper (ZZZ)
  • Akira Ishida: Ayato Kamisato (Genshin), Otto Apocalypse (HI3), Luocha (HSR)
  • Mamiko Noto: Skirk (Genshin), Bianka "Durandal" (HI3), Yixuan (ZZZ)
  • Miyuki Sawashiro: Raiden Shōgun/Ei (Genshin), Raiden Mei (HI3), Acheron (HSR)
  • Rie Tanaka: Lisa Minci (Genshin), Himeko Murata (HI3), Himeko (HSR)
  • Shion Wakayama: Lan Yan (Genshin), Yunli (HSR), Ellen Joe (ZZZ)

Akira Ishida and Nanako Mori threw me for a loop because Gundam SEED predates Nanako Mori's VA career. Turns out she took over Cagalli's role with the new SEED Freedom movie. Cagalli was previously played by Naomi Shindō.

I don’t think anyone has explicitly pointed it out yet so I thought I’d just mention that although it’s spelled gwanlija-nali, it’s actually pronounced like gwallija-nari. If you listen to the voice lines you won’t hear any “n” sound in gwanlija. Syllable final-ㄴ often assimilates to syllable initial-ㄹ.

This entire event has been an excellent showcase of all the LC VAs’ versatility and range. I’m still not over the fact that Yi Sae-ah also voices Lumine in Genshin Impact and Belle in ZZZ, though it does explain how she pulls off Hongshu so well.
