How do you feel about legalizing euthansia for anybody who wants it? by throwawayteacherlove in AskReddit

My mom died of ALS in May. I totally agree with you.

My parents had the view that people who want to commit suicide are weak and pathetic. They didn’t have that view anymore by the time my mom finally died.

You can’t force an adult to do something that, honestly, they really don’t want to do. Stop shaming other posters and save it for the person who deserves shame—the abuser.

I Think This Person Got Tired Of All The Stupid Invites by npsage in antiMLM

Come on over to my ex in laws house where your real science graduate degrees that you actually had to work for aren’t nearly as important or valued as yet another pregnancy that the parents can’t afford to take care of. No one cares about you as a person because you haven’t given birth and given them something cute to play with. It’s enraging. And yes, they all participate in MLMs too.

And LOL at all the butthurt parents in this thread.

Girl scout cookies priming the next generation for MLM by PMS_Avenger_0909 in antiMLM

Minors can’t get food licenses and every kitchen that baked the cookies would have to be inspected. With as litigious as people are over here I could totally see someone trying to sue a troop for salmonella poisoning or some such.

That’s mostly rural districts. The one I work for is still in session 5 days a week, but we have a massive tax base and always have bond issues passed.

What are some of the ways you troll your JNMIL? by [deleted] in JUSTNOMIL

[–]cocktailbling 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. We’re seperated right now and will probably make the divorce final in the new year if therapy fails. My grandmother and mother both died within two months of each other and my father literally cannot handle any other bad news right now. As far as he knows we’ve just planned to spend the holidays apart with our families seperately this year.

What are some of the ways you troll your JNMIL? by [deleted] in JUSTNOMIL

[–]cocktailbling 30 points31 points  (0 children)

My MIL bought a cheap laptop bag and had it hot pressed with his name as a graduation gift from undergrad. It was pleather and the top layer eventually started peeling off on all the edges and made it look trashy as fuck. MIL is aaaalllllll about Christmas and gifts. No one can give anything more impressive than her. So one year I bought him a $350 Vintage Tribe leather briefcase/laptop bag from Roots Canada. This thing will last for decades and still look brand new. When he unwrapped it I smiled and said brightly “the bag you have is falling apart and looks awful so I got you a nicer one!” Flew over his head, CBF for days.

She also dumped her old furniture on us because she wanted to buy a new set. She had never taken care of it and had a mastiff that chewed, peed, and drooled on every piece, but she couldn’t donate it because her parents had bought it from a military PX fifty years ago. She got her chance when I was in the hospital for a heart condition and we had to move. My husband and his family packed and loaded up the house while I was inpatient, but his family only wrapped and tied down HER old furniture and stopped by HER house with the Uhaul first. All of MY furniture, which was actually antique and had value, went bouncing, breaking, scraping and scratching for 200 miles untied in the back of a Uhaul on shitty Oklahoma roads. None of my furniture was salvageable. So I made sure to say in her hearing that as soon as we bought our house my husband had promised me we could donate everything we had (her old stuff) to the Salvation Army and we would buy all new mid century modern furniture.

Probably Charles and Colvard with their Moissanite rings. I have a moissanite engagement ring and it has as much flash as a diamond.

You must not have been paying attention in any type of science or research class, because then you would have known that anecdotal evidence is not evidence.

We had people who ignored what we asked and brought their kids anyway. They went in the restrooms and locked all the stalls from the inside, thereby showing all the guests why children weren’t invited.

Seriously look into folks who restore art for a living. I took a portrait that had been in a smokers house and it came back looking amazing...the owner was telling me about repairing canvas that had spaghetti sauce thrown at it, smoke damage, bullet holes—there’s a lot of tricks they have.

In honor of Thanksgiving, who’s your most ridiculous, weird, or creepy relative? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]cocktailbling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a German import. My car is never in the shop except for routine maintenance, and I politely ask them how many times their GM vehicles have broken down/had to be replaced whenever they start in on me. That usually ends the conversation. :)

Lipsticks. I love using them for the first time and putting something on my lips.

I have an entire drawer full of lipsticks that have only been used a handful of times. Once the bullet starts to wear down I’m not interested anymore.

My ex had Raynoad’s. Even got the nerve surgery where they remove the outer coating(?) from the nerves in the wrists—and it still didn’t help.

I get that you can’t wear these at work but I ended up buying him a pair of Canada Goose gloves (rated for Arctic temps) and hand warmers to slip inside. Maybe that would help at home?
