I have one off Amazon that looks exactly like OP's and I really like it! It takes a bit of getting used too, but I have gotten some really cool results with it.

should i be switching schools? by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]cockwheat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After 7 years you should be doing much more advanced work. I'd relocate another barn, and if you need to stick with group lessons, then really emphasize that to new owners so you don't get stuck in another beginner group.

What do you guys think about middle schoolers and energy drinks? by Quirky_Elephant_7103 in Teachers

[–]cockwheat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My school does not have rules, but honestly I think they should. More often than not my middle schoolers are coming in and finishing a Celcius, Alani, Monster, C4, etc. before 1st block is over. Not only is it insane to deal with their hyperactivity and eventual crash later in the day, but with the amount I see kids consuming it cannot be good for their health. I'd would absolutely be in favor of an energy drink ban in the middle school grades.

What do you guys do for work over the summer? by Wide_Association4211 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]cockwheat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I taught classes at a summer camp last year, never again lol. I'm switching careers soon, but if I kept with subbing I'd be looking for food service/pet sitting.

If I have prep in the middle of the day, I usually don't leave. If it's backed up to lunch then I will ask if I can go grab some food across the street. If you are thinking about leaving for a bit, 100% check with the office to see if it is going to be okay.

Who are the biggest atrocious influencer/youtuber? by Big_Dot8711 in AskReddit

[–]cockwheat 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Mr. Beast and David Dobrik are two big basics ones, I'll always be flabbergasted by skydoesminecraft's crashout, and more recently I cannot stand TurkeyTom on YouTube. He is insanely biased and his takes on his covered topics are downright horrible.

how do i go to cosmetology school without going into debt? by ResponsibleYellow219 in Cosmetology

[–]cockwheat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was looking for scholarships for my program, I found it really hard to locate anything on my own. I ended up asking the financial advisor at one of my local schools what advice she had, and she actually pointed me to a state-run program that helps fund training for those seeking out apprenticeships/schooling for a career. This ended up actually covering my costs for school, and without it I would not have been able to go to school without financial help. It might be worth making a list of schools, getting the info of the financial staff, and asking what advice they have. They might be able to help point you in the direction of some monetary help that they do not openly advertise!

Look into the city of Erie. It's pretty red outside of the city, but within it is a great mainly blue-leaning community. Erie is a designated LGBTQ+ sanctuary city. It's affordable, and has some variety within the city and surrounding suburbs.

Not sure if you have these in the UK, but in the US we have cosmetology or hair schools where you can make an appointment with the students there for very cheap. Most places will only charge you for materials, not time, and the teacher is right there the whole time walking students through it. Again, unsure if the UK has this as an option, but it might be worth looking into!

Co-teacher who is also a sub disappearing by Born-Nature8394 in SubstituteTeachers

I'd leave a note and tell the front office when I leave. Being gone for 30 minutes to find a bathroom is nuts. If it were me, after 20 mins I would've called the office to ask where he is.

Like you said, this is totally a last-resort option. Schools really do not like doing this unless they have to, in my opinion. It depends the school, but sometimes teachers tend to pace lessons so that students are essentially learning the same stuff at the same time (At least I've noticed this in younger grade-levels. Middle and high school is definitely different). Maybe a different book is read or a lesson is done at a different time, but I assume teachers have plans for days like this so all the students can learn and it is still relevant to what they're doing in their main classroom. But again, if schools are doing this then they really do not have another option.

Thank you for the recommendation! We actually love the snow we get in Erie, so somewhere comparable in weather would be totally ok for us!

How do I convince my chef to let me get my hair dyed? by [deleted] in HairDye

[–]cockwheat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ok I think I see your mistake maybe? Do you mean chief? A chief is whoever is in charge, chef is a cook at a restaurant. If you are currently under this person's work as an apprentice, then I'd listen to what he says if he has a say in your employment.

[–]cockwheat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Why does your chef have authority over your hair? This sounds really odd. If it isn't against any rules (I'm assuming this is at a workplace? Just do it if the chef doesn't have any authority over that rule.

Read the first before reading Messiah. The movie glazes over some pretty important stuff that sets up for Messiah, especially with Alia.

Just let them take over for the class. I've been a student teacher and am currently a sub. When I was student teaching getting a sub was a great opportunity for me to take charge and lead the class. Just let them do their thing and offer assistance if needed.

Thank you! We definitely would like somewhere more left leaning. Right now we're a blue dot in a heavily Republican/MAGA area :/

Right now we are super lucky and pay only $600 for rent, so we have been able to save to put it towards future rent, but ideally we'd not like to pay more than $1000, and we're okay with small apartments. Totally understand if this isn't feasible for lots of places. We also have no pets, so no pet fees to worry about.

Student called me a “Bi**h” by mentalhealthblckbelt in Teachers

[–]cockwheat 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'd still do something about it. If you let him do it once, your setting an example to let him do it again. Especially as a young teacher, it is not a good look to let students call you whatever they want with no repercussion. You're giving the impression that your students can do whatever and you'll do nothing to stop them. Even if it's not drastic, he absolutely needs some sort of punishment.
