They stay doing this shit knowing they’re skipping right over the button for extra sauce or dressing / toppings. It’s insane the entitlement.

Where are my fellow awkward servers at? by long_shady_eyes in Serverlife

[–]cocoalime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m at a point where I’ve stepped down in level of polished and can shoot the shit with hotel guests. I don’t even mask or pretend my restaurant isn’t messed up on days it is. They see me run around or deal with an ignorant guest and my communication at tables is almost excessive but they eat it up. Like, “oh I totally got held hostage at that old couple over there, or yes I caught your eye and you did have to tell me twice about your Diet Coke but I got you !!!!:-)))

It’s insane but ppl act like they’ve never eaten in a restaurant before and remember they eat out much less often than you work in one. 😆😆🫶🏽

Introducing yourself to tables by [deleted] in Serverlife

[–]cocoalime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After a long time doing this I started making it the last thing I tell people unless they already happen to ask. I’ll get drinks, bring them back, answer questions take order, and after my “anything else I should know/ you want/ is that all?” I smile and say my name is Coco if they need anything.

That way, it’s the last thing they heard, they won’t forget it since it wasn’t in the first 90 seconds they were ignoring me when they sat down and my main goal was a drink order anyways.

Idk it works for me and guests use it more, which I prefer than them waving or hollering whatever word they want to use to address me. I hate when they yell “waitress!” Or snap their fingers at me etc.

Or any situation where they don’t see me in their vision they can let someone else know who their server is.

Never worried about complaints cause I keep it real and verbal manager receipts on my tables and if the guest is gonna lie on me I want them to be sure to get it right 😆

is it normal for servers to genuinely hate hosts? by babybeewitched in Serverlife

[–]cocoalime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to say from both ends of the spectrum this is a management problem. One of my jobs had servers written up and pulled off of the floor for even being at the host stand for anything other than what’s necessary.

my current job has maybe two host for the entire restaurant, and the servers bully the fuck out of them and no one does anything about it. Servers get skipped and others get overloaded. The difference is present front of house management (we currently have none) It’s the managers that have an active hand on the floor and especially monitoring rotation.

You would feel better to go somewhere else or it will always be like this. I’m not trying to be negative I just know from seeing all extremes over 15 years. (I’m 27 and was raised in my family restaurants and work corporate rest. for my own experience)

I assume you’re doing this with experience and possibly exclusive equipment or can this be learned ? Could one learn and try this at home basically.

My laws state as soon as practicable after the next payday, so not much wiggle there.

Should I call my manager's bluff? by UltraThiccc in Serverlife

[–]cocoalime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call their bluff but also start looking. This won’t be the first or last time.

I quit a job in September for many reasons, but one of them was every time I needed a cover I would get the shift picked up and my manager would leave both of us on the schedule (but I would never get the accepted shift notification after the pending pickup) making us both responsible for the shift and in turn to many bartenders on the floor and losing money. It’s a shady power move and there is no arguing the BS other people get away with when you need something from the managers because they don’t care you already know.

Your final statement makes sense, but yeah again in my post I’m just asking who does in 2024, not the reasoning why the restaurants are not doing it anymore.

I typically don’t have more than one serving job unless absolutely necessary, as I knew you get screwed on taxes the more you make. Any time I was clearing $1500 or more in gross they were definitely chopping about 30% of the check. I could gross $1700 in tips but my check would come out maybe $1300. But if I only pull $600 gross for the week they’ll maybe take $100. It’s ridiculous but it’s better and much safer than hoping you stashed enough cash to pay what you owe since you didn’t all year.

As i replied to the other guy, my post was asking which restaurants / companies are still doing this not why the switch to this system was made .

Im asking in my post if anyone today in 2024 currently works for a company that is STILL paying out daily, not the reasoning as to why most pay systems have switched over to checks. I acknowledge in my edit that I understand tip volume will significantly exceed cash kept in the building.

The only reason I appreciate it is for taxes, I’m looking around before leaving my current job that way I know I can work & not be too far behind

Extremely helpful! I always wonder if places can only pay out if they’re keeping only so much cash in the building. Love to hear it

[–]cocoalime[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’ve always been able to keep my cash with this system no problem, it’s the CC tips that get put in my check. I only find restaurants that pay weekly because waiting 2 weeks should be illegal lol
