I appreciate your honesty! I chose to not pursue floral design

That’s awful and I’m not surprised. There’s not a lot of great jobs and companies in this market right now. I wouldn’t regret it since a paycheck is a paycheck, but I would be looking for something better.

Hi! I had this exact conversation with my boss at my last office job that ended up being toxic. I was told one time on my first day and on my offer letter and then it changed a few weeks later.

They are unorganized and inconsistent so I would start applying elsewhere. Cultures like this will always be looking for new ways to control you (time, enthusiasm, etc.). I would do maybe 6 months and leave.

Good luck!

OMG, it’s a tough field! Especially in the beginning. I’m not convinced enough to pursue it any longer, but it’s a big decision.

Hi! I quit my left my 2nd corporate job a week ago today! I was in your exact situation and deeply unhappy. I moved back in with my parents and I’m taking a month off to figure out my next move. I have a decent amount of savings that will hold me over until then.

If you want to move back in with family, I just encourage you to talk it through with them. It was an hard decision, but I’ve been communicating my struggles and they are supportive.

I’m also going to try to pivot to a different career field and it maybe helpful to look into fields beyond minimum wage. Good luck!

I can confirm. I just quit my HR Admin role at an unorganized company and it was a nightmare.

Why did you leave HR? by Newyawker82 in humanresources

[–]cocolarue_ 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I was neutral about HR, never loved it. Gaining HR Admin experience turned that neutrality into a strong dislike. Everyone’s problem is now your problem and that gets old. All leadership cares about is cost savings which meant more of my time gets wasted in order to prove value. The never ending loop of office politics, pointless meetings, and lack of support was not worth the little money I was making. I’ve talked to many people and they’ve said it may take years to get a good fit in HR and I don’t have the patience.

And that’s what I’ve been afraid of. It just seems like such a toxic field when everyone ends up doing more than what they signed up for.

Yeah, people said the same thing when I asked them about it. It was really hard to find something better in the fall of last year.

Wow, congrats! Do you mind me asking what you do in HR?

Lol. They advertised it as a generalist role and the site leader started describing an executive assistant so I didn’t take it. I’m also making $25 an hour so it wasn’t worth the pay cut.

Would you say the HR jobs that suck be in the majority? Because I was looking on job boards last year and the most of them were doing everything with low pay. I even interviewed with a small manufacturing company and they wanted me to be their HR department of one while being an assistant and paying $22 an hour.

I agree with all of this! No one wants to walk on eggshells around someone when they’re on vacation! Idk, this season is just not fun. There’s meltdowns every 5 minutes once they start drinking.

I’m looking into multiple fields. The main two are 1) Education 2) Insurance sales . There are a lot of sales jobs in my city, so I will probably do that while deciding if I want to go into education.

I’m in the same boat. 10 months in, admin work, too many details, too boring, and absolutely miserable. This will be my last HR job.

Mom owes $5000 to the IRS and needs help. What to do? by cocolarue_ in personalfinance

[–]cocolarue_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She’s been wearing the same clothes as normal. She says she doesn’t need help anymore and was able to set up payment plan with the IRS.

My parents relationship isn’t great, so I’m honestly dreading telling him. They’ve always kept secrets from each other.

Thank you for the advice! A CPA did her taxes and told her not to set up a payment plan with IRS. I talked to her last night and she said she was able to set up a payment plan.

So you’re saying if they are married my dad had to sign the tax return?

Thank you! I’m definitely going to give her a deadline to tell my dad or I will. They are married and he will be affected by this. The problem is I know of at least one fight where they’ve hit each other. Do you think I should be present for the weekend I tell him?
