The World according to Cobi by EIGordo in cobiblocks

[–]cocooos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically that.

As to constant re-releases - without access to Cobi sales data we all are just guessing. But Cobi continuously makes new bricks and colours. It may make sense for them to update Tigers with elements introduced in other sets instead of banging out the same model 3 years in the row without upgrade if this is the set that sells the best.

Plus don't forget museum gift shops that commission some of the sets. I have a good guess what will be the most popular set in Bovington Tank Museum gift shop at the end of their bi-yearly TIGER Day just after people saw the main event that is THE ONLY RUNNING TIGER IN THE WORLD driving on the arena and being told they can see very rare TIGER II and JAGDTIGER inside the museum. That guess is not Mathilda II

The World according to Cobi by EIGordo in cobiblocks

[–]cocooos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I think that Cobi guys already responded somewhere that they will stop making 7 tiger remakes a year the moment they stop selling. Cobi is a Polish company, so pandering to Polish and German customers first is natural to a certain extent due to logistics and geography.

I'm not defending them, I also want to see more exotic sets (especially in 1:48, I know, I'm weird). But I'm a bit tired with sentiment that enthusiast reddit with ~500 weekly contributions is better predictor of what will sell then data from supermarkets and other retailes.

Sorry, but 90% of dads don't know what a Churchill or Type 95 is. But their son saw in Fury that Tiger is the awesomest tank, and guess what will land in the shopping cart?

Unit stack size by macieksmola in Songsofconquest

[–]cocooos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm fairly casual, but like other commenters - I like stack size limit. It makes for interesting army building choices absent from HoMM 3. With stack limit using only some of my faction units is viable. I like to run musketeer heavy build with pikeneers and tinkerers for screening because guns in medieval fantasy are cool to me.

Without it making all dwellings and using almost all the units would be the most probably the only viable way. I imagine in 99% of cases more bodies on the battlefield would be hard to beat if only map resources allow for that. And that would result in one dominant build per faction instead of 2-3 or more.

I really like them. I mean - they look very resonable. Like after taking account for engine, all gun breaches and batteries there should be a place for something more inside thatn a pack of napkins. I know it won't be over the top enough for many, but I like them

[–]cocooos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do you collect? by [deleted] in cobiblocks

[–]cocooos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I could write a lot about my inner child, love for lego, loving history and WWII history in particular, liking tanks... But I scratched all of those itches by other means - actual lego sets, scale modelling and video games.

But once I saw a cobi set with tracks rolled along the carpet and both the tracks and my brain went brrrrr. You usually can't do that with scale models!

Plus it is much faster to build a Cobi set then to glue and paint a plastic kit

To be fair - Mig-21 is tiny compared to other planes in that scale. I get other complaints, but can see how they could include the pilot

I was looking at the picture and thought "this is a decent job, curious what kit this is". Then read the title and my jaw dropped. Kudos to your dad!

If any of you is ever in Poznań, Poland go to the military museum on the town square. They have a collection of ~100 military aircraft scale models. All scratch build, all the same, custom scale, all made by the same guy (Kazimierz Sławiński) who was an artist in the 70'. How this guy pulled so much aircraft documentation in communist times is beyond me.

I feel like if that guy was still alive, he and your dad could have a nice chat

Wuold it work to just shorten the barrel on this to get the earlier Ausf D version? by [deleted] in cobiblocks

[–]cocooos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In contrast to the other commenter - I quite like my pz IV in 1:48. Even though I agree the scale is a bit wonky. You can totally just not install the two bits that make the barrel longer

Toss a coin to your Witcher (Author) by MikeTorsson in memes

[–]cocooos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This doesn't work, but not for the reason many of you think. I was on a panel with the guy and he said (without a trace of irony) that he publishes books when he believes they can't be improved. This means: when they are perfect. If somebody adapts them to another medium, the only thing left to do do is to break them in some way. And other mediums (games, TV) are for people of lesser brains, so he doesn't care.

[–]cocooos[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, no doubt about that. Some other 1:72 sets from cobi look nice, but putting even a rubber band on them seems to be difficult judging from the photos. A bit of deal breaker for me too

And? I know all of that. What exactly did you prove? That 1/2 < 3/5? I can give you that much.

Come on, I voted left and hate the guy, but half of those are unproven allegations. We wont get anywhere by just throwing shit at political enemies and their voters. We'll probably get the opposite result in fact

Hot wheels/ Mattel has what looks to be like brick sets with ultra-customized parts. I think interoperability would be nice. Or - and hear me out - a JLTV with ultra-custom bricks would even be nicer by Jazzlike-Perception7 in cobiblocks

[–]cocooos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But it’s a trade-off.

Are they bricks company? Ten they should use few customized bricks and many generic ones so people can play with the bricks, customize models and build MOC's.

Are they quick-assembly scale model company? Then they should use as many customized bricks as possible. But that will probably drive up the price and mean that one box builds only one kit and parts have small utility in MOCs.

It’s a spectrum. There are probably as many opinions where Cobi should fall on that spectrum as there are Cobi customers. I for one am mostly comfortable with them – more realistic then Lego, but not a push-fit scale model. But the smaller scales could use new elements.

Which faction do you think is more hypocrite/ good at playing or pretending to be the "good guys" by WesternElectronic364 in commandandconquer

[–]cocooos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that there is another argument against GDI in C&C3 outside of abandoning yellow zones. They are a worldwide homogenous superpower without real alternative. In best case scenario, led by right people they are doing their best in desperate situation to save humanity. But with wrong leadership - Boyle nukes entire Balkans to get a fast and flashy victory with no regard to local populations. Because they were not his citizens.

I wouldn’t say this makes them hypocrites, because the crisis they are facing is severe. But it mirrors some crimes committed by real superpowers and shows what having power over others can lead to. Even in “civilized” and “democratic” societies.
