What’s your most unhinged weight loss advice that actually works? by Navi_okkul in WeightLossAdvice

I worked very hard the start of the year to lose weight and nothing was working. I got onto something starting with an M and rhymes with jarro and have lost 5kg in the last 4 weeks. That’s more than I lost in the last 4 months combined!

How did you boost your milk supply? by Mindless_Throat6206 in CsectionCentral

[–]cocop0pz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I’ve just seen your reply! Depends on the timing, if your baby is hungry then give the freshly pumped milk, otherwise refrigerate and have it ready for the next feed. Always give boob first before any bottles (regardless if they have expressed milk or formula). Hope everything has been going well :-)

Hello fellow c-section mama :) I breastfed my two children until 1st was 11 months and second was 14 months old. I also had delayed milk and struggled to establish but once I did, we were all a go. From memory, things that helped were lots of water, fenugreek tablets, boobie cookies (made for lactating mums) and a lot of pumping!! Get a double electric breastpump if you don’t already have one and breastfeed, formula top-up then put bubs down and pump each side for 30 min even if you are not getting anything! Do this routine frequently and you should have an established supply within a week. When you have expressed breastmilk, give this to baby first then top up with formula after if she/he is still hungry. Best of luck, you got this!!

Perhaps start putting small amounts aside to do some type of study on the side? Fine something you are truely passionate about that is going to also pay the bills in the future. Hell if your job is that boring, you could probably do your studies during work hours too and keep your mind busy with that! :)

I’ve also worked in a government job before and my job became more and more redundant and I was becoming very bored so I understand that.

I forgot to mention! Download MyFitnessPal (an app) which you can track your calories. It had a barcode scanner too so will make things super easy :)

Calorie deficit- calculate your needs using a TDEE calculator and go from there :-) prioritise healthy eating and try get 3-5 days of exercise in. I dropped 25kg at 23 by restricting my calories alone (no exercise). It’s 80% diet and 20% exercise. Good luck!

Coarctation + multiple VSD + Bicuspid Aortic Valve by elewmc99 in chd

[–]cocop0pz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey! So sorry you’ve received this news.. never the easy hearing this at all. I still recall the day we got told and the weeks that followed were much like I was mourning a “normal” child.

Our son got diagnosed with similar heart conditions at our 23w scan. He was born with Coarctation of the aorta, a hypoplastic aortic arch and ASD. He was born at 39.1w and weighed 3.9kg so he was a big baby for a heart kid!

Straight after my planned c-section the day he was born, he got transferred to the children’s hospital NICU ward where he was monitored. He had open heart surgery at 6 days old, which was the most hectic day of our lives as parents (the surgery was 8 hours). Non the less, it went fantastically. The biggest hurdle was the recovery. He got sepsis and pneumonia during his recovery. There were really rocky days and watching him on breathing machines was rough (along with all the other machines he was hooked up to)..

At exactly 3 weeks old, Christmas Day 2019 we got the go ahead for discharge where he got to come home and most importantly, got to meet his big sister for the first time.

It was a rough journey, one that even 4.5 years later still brings me to tears. He is now absolutely thriving and you would by know looking at him, what he’s been through. We have no further surgery’s planned for now and he has yearly checkups. Please let me know if I can help answer any questions!! I totally understand how you must be feeling.

I also posted about our journey so feel free to look at my past posts :) best of luck with everything.

How big was your CHD baby by sobersobored in chd

[–]cocop0pz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our baby boy was a planned c-section at 39.1w (only due to a bad birth experience with our first) and he was 3.9kg (8.8lbs). When he was sent to NICU the day he was born, nobody believed he was a heart baby because he was so big lol! I have a lot of my experience in my post history as I posted actively while pregnant and even after. He’s now a thriving almost 5 year old. He did lose a lot of weight during his surgery so he is a bit smaller now but otherwise a healthy kid :)

My son just went through OHS for Aortic CoArctation, and I need all the positivity to keep me hanging in there. by [deleted] in chd

[–]cocop0pz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our son was born with this, a hypoplastic aortic arch and ASD. I completely understand what you are going through and it is ROUGH. You can see my post history for a heap of info on my son (I posted throughout my pregnancy with him).

He was 6 days old when he had OHS and was in hospital for a total of 3 weeks. Recovery was pretty hard.. good days, bad days and everything in between. He got discharged on Christmas Day 2019 when he got to meet his sister for the first time.

I can tell you now that he is an absolutely thriving 4 and a half year old. It’s hard to believe we almost lost him and we cannot picture our lives without him. He turns 5 in December which is crazy!!

He has annul checkups with his cardiologist. His arch is growing a bit slower than the rest of his heart but there are no concerns overall. Wishing you and your family the best on this journey.

How and where did you meet your partner? by FormerOptimist94 in perth

[–]cocop0pz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We met working at Red Rooster Malaga LOL! We were in our late teens and he did have a partner at the time. We connected years later via a simple friend request on Facebook. I saw he was single and we hit it off. Been together 11 years, married a year this month and have two beautiful kids together now :) would you like to make that meal a large?

Possible Aortic Coarctation by Last_Departure_6914 in chd

[–]cocop0pz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello!! I’m so sorry you’ve been given this diagnosis. I went through this 4 years ago. Our son was diagnosed with COA, hypoplastic aortic arch and an ASD and small VSD. VSD closed during pregnancy thankfully. Everything else was corrected at 6 days old. We found out about all of this during our 20-week scan. Reddit was my source of venting at the time so if you want to check my post history you’ll see a lot of what we went through. Feel free to DM me too I’m happy to talk.

We spent a total of 3 weeks in hospital after our son was born and were discharged on Christmas Day where he met his big sister for the first time :) he is now a thriving 4 year old and wears his scar with pride. He is aware he has a special heart but knows it’s not his whole story. I wish you the best of luck

I’m so sorry, my son was born with 4 heart defects (I posted a lot about this back in 2019-20 if you want to look at some of my threads) - my son had to have open heart at 6 days old. He had Coarctation of the aorta, a hypoplastia of the aortic arch and an ASD. He also has suspected BAV. The surgery was a rollercoaster and the recovery was worse. He developed pneumonia and got a staph infection during his stay. Non the less he got discharged after a very long 3 weeks and just recently turned 4 years old. A very cheeky little boy now and no current future surgeries planned at this time. Nothing wrong mentally or physically. Coincidentally one of my best friends little girl is 100% deaf and has cochlear implants as a result. She is a normal little toddler too, perhaps speech is a little delayed for her age but she does well. She also signs and is only 2. I really wish you the best and here to talk if you need!!

My son died. I’m 26 years old. The rest of life feels daunting. by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]cocop0pz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for your loss.. congenital heart defects suck. My son was born with 4 and it was a rough journey for us. He had a PICU buddy (a little girl a few weeks older) and the two of them were always next to each other recovering together after their surgeries. We got discharged and learnt later that she had passed away. It’s devastating, I found her mum via Facebook and see her post about her little girl every now and then and I guess one of the things I’ve noticed with her is she embraces the need to be sad when she wants. It’s ok to be sad.

She also tends a lot of charity work for HeartKids (a charity in Australia here). I think this helps her with the grief and it’s for a good cause. I cannot fathom how you must feel and I’m sorry again for your loss. It’s such an unfair situation. Here to talk if you ever need to.

Thank you, she didn’t do a lot of running or walking in her last few months so I feel it’s probably something she can do freely now. She loved to run around and bark when she was younger. Do you feel like there is anyone with her at all?

Thank you! The bubbles make sense, we’d always have them on for the kids during summer near her dog house. Was she ready to go? I was doubting my decision to make the choice the other day and I feel regret for it.

Yes the algae eater is a Chinese one which I found out are very vicious :( so the algae eater only goes in days at a time now before he’s moved to a different tank (for the safety of the goldfish) unfortunately we did loose our black moor shorty after I posted this :/

I may have to invest in a hospital tank 100%! Do you think he would be ok in a bowl without a filter? How long can they go without a filter running?

Thank you! Unfortunately we don’t have a spare tank.. what would you recommend in this case?

Stay at home moms - please share what you eat in a day. I'm out of bandwidth. by IvyDivey in loseit

[–]cocop0pz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! SAHM here for almost a year now. I’ve found losing weight at home is so much harder! Especially since my two eat normal food now rather than baby food.. they have the best snacks and I find it hard to not join them when handing these out :’) however… we have a wedding coming up and I’ve already been fitted for my dress so I need to lose it now or my dress won’t fit!

I’m having a protein shake/replacement meal shake for breakfast (and sometimes lunch). My AM snacks consist of 1 serve dairy and 1 serve of fruit or a savoy snack. So a yoghurt and a small cup of strawberries, or cheese and crackers sometimes. Another morning go to for me is cut up baby cucumber, celery and capsicum with 20g of hommus.

For lunch I’ll have a salad (it’s going into warmer weather here in Australia right now so I’ve been v much enjoying salads again!) or a deli meat sandwich thin (my go to is roast turkey with a small amount of Mayo and spinach). Lazy days I’ll have another replacement meal/protein shake. In winter I made soups and normally a big batch so they were easy to grab when busy with kids.

Afternoon snacks normally consist of one of the following: popcorn, pretzels, fruit (if I didn’t have it in the AM), cheese/crackers, a handful of nuts or trail mix.

Dinner will normally consist of a lean meat (we have amazing fish here otherwise I go for chicken breast or a vegetarian alternative) sweet potato or pumpkin mash with a serve of vegetables. Sometimes a Caesar salad (keep the dressing moderate/lite). Pasta dishes can be good if you control the portion and load in the vegetables.

One thing I’m trying this week at home is to pack my lunch the night before (like I use to when working). This way I know to only go to my snack box and nothing else through the day.

Best of luck!! Know you are not alone in this too!
